Etebo was a 9 in his Warri Wolves days. He didn't play as a 9 when he scored several goals in the Olympics. goldfish80: |

goldfish80: How can you say I never knew when I am one of the loudest screamers of playing creative midfielders as strikers? I believe all creative midfielders can strike. So you are very wrong saying I never knew. That notion of yours is totally against my ideology of the game. By the way, Etebo fluffed the chance that came to him. Nacho is the best upfront with respect to that game. We needed someone clinical with passes. |

TheGoodJoe: Like Kelechi didn't fluff the chance that came his way in the dying minutes of the Algerian game. For me, it's not a must a striker should score for a team to win a match. Against Algeria, a midfielder and a winger scored and we won. I prefer a well oiled team who can score goals from all over the pitch including set pieces, than one who rely solely on a striker who when caged, the team is finished. By the way, Etebo is one of the most natural finishers we have in the Eagles. Its unfortunate some of you have forgotten so soon how much his finishing abilities came to fore at the Olympics. The so called chance he missed against SA was nothing but a half chance which when he stretched, he couldn't get the connection he desired direct the ball into the net. Give him a one on one chance and watch him burry them every day of the week. 2 Likes |

TheGoodJoe:I see you're making reference to Asensio to justify lack of playing time Kelechi got at Man city. For your information, Asensio is holding off signing a contract extension with Real Madrid if he can't be guaranteed playing time. You make it sound like players only train at Man city. Do you think Kelechi will walk into the Leicester City team if he is not performing in training? |

so it's countdown to the cameroon match. still questions about who man's the super eagles goal post and who plays the top nine position. for the goalkeeper spot hope the coaching crew allow the best emerge from the training drills when the time comes as for who will play the number 9 role it seems based on merit ighalo and the belgian-nigerian who plays for uctrecth in the eredevise forgotten his name are the inform options. osimhen for now should probably take a back seat unless he starts banging in goals right from the beginning of bundesliga. bonaventure should also be called up. he has earned his spot on merit. we need to make sure we call up all our inform players no room for smeeh smeeh. i actually like kayode's move to spain via man city. it will enable him showcase his technical ability la liga is a league that values good technical play which i think kayode will thrive in and not the jam body of the epl that will take him time to adjust to. i am confident the leicester city move will bring out the best in iheanacho but he will need to work his socks off and adjust his game to leicester city requirements because like okazaki showed against arsenal he's not ready to relinquish his starting berth. won't comment much on our potential line up against cameroon until the list of invitees is released but below are the few guys who in my opinion should start. for those with question marks i will let those with form going into the game to determine starting places. unfortunately for now kelechi has lost his undroppable status in my XI but i'm trusting him to put in stellar performances for leicester city in the coming weeks to change my mind ? shehu abdullahi, ekong, balogun, ola aina ndidi, mikel victor moses, ? etebo ? |

CHAN Qualifier: Why Super Eagles suffered Cotonou defeat – Pinnick Published 2 mins ago on August 14, 2017 By Chijioke Jannah President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has blamed the home-based Super Eagles’ defeat to Benin Republic in the first leg of their 2018 CHAN qualifier in Cotonou to poor officiating. Pinnick, who was present at the match venue, told journalists after the game that he has taken up the issue with the appropriate body following the manner Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal handled the game. He also said that the Nigerian side did not deserve to win in Cotonou. The NFF boss said: “The officiating was very poor and I have notified the authorities concerning it. “I wasn’t really impressed with our players. I don’t know what happened. They are all very highly rated players, some of the best in our league but to me they didn’t live up to expectations. “Some of those factors like the officiating must have affected them. But like I said, we will do everything possible in the second leg to make sure we qualify for CHAN. “I believe we will do our best on the second leg in Kano. “But I can say emphatically that the officiating was very poor and the turf too affected our game but we will be able to overcome those two challenges in the next game and qualify. By God’s grace we are going to work hard to make sure we qualify.” It could be recalled that Benin Republic team was awarded an 89th minute penalty converted by their skipper Seibou Mama following a foul on a Beninoise player inside the box by Azeez Aremu. http://dailypost.ng/2017/08/14/chan-qualifier-super-eagles-suffered-cotonou-defeat-pinnick/ |

BascoVanVeli: I have said it severally, the best local players are not in the league. League players have the mindset that makes it impossible to win away. If we had Manu Garba assemble an under 20 side from academies or amatuer teams, they will stand a better chance of winning away. We have seen our league players take healthy leads to Sudan and capitulate. 1 Like |

goldfish80: As I said before Etebo is not a good choice to spearhead our attack when we have Iheanacho in the side. When it comes to selection, it is best to have the most clinical finisher ahead to make the most of the chances. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 6:16pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
goldfish80: You are too stuck on Kelechi Iheanacho. I am talking of Development of young players and the notion of players stagnating on the bench. Without regular playing time, we are watching the rise of a top quality footballer. It means without regular playing time, players can develop. Finito. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 6:37pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: Most clinical finisher here, most clinical finisher there, isn't it the same Iheanacho that missed chances against Corsica, Algeria and even Togo? How is he more clinical than the lot we are yet to parade in that position? Based on his performances as a 9, he isn't the most clinical striker we have take that to the bank 1 Like |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 6:43pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: for the record, Asensio made 33 appearances for Madrid last season totalling 1077 minutes, which means he got to play for an average of 33minutes in each of those appearances, if Iheanacho's total was anywhere close to that would we be complaining? Abeg Asensio has been seeing plenty game-time |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:05pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
Mickael2: Do you think Asensio's growth has to do with the 33 minutes each game? My point is not about Iheanacho but the notion a player's development hinges on game time. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:08pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
Mickael2: In recent games, tell us the most clinical finisher for the Super Eagles. We are talking of Etebo and you are talking based on a 9. The point is who is our most clinical finisher in recent games. It is Iheanacho. So he is the preferred choice to spearhead the attack over Etebo. Or do you disagree that Etebo is a better option. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by DrKlever(m): 7:10pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
BascoVanVeli:Forget the league he is playing, this guy is on fire. from this short clip three of his shots hit the woodwork.. I'm impressed. even if i don't really fancy him, i think he deserves a call up for Cameron encounter and if he proves his worth then he should lead the attack. 1 Like |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:12pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
Mickael2: 'He's a very, very good player. He's sharp and quick and he's definitely got an eye for goal,' Wes Morgan said. 'We did a round-robin tournament today and he was on my team. He popped up with some great goals from impossible positions, which is refreshing. Do you think Etebo would have done better than Iheanacho when it concerns scoring goals from impossible angles? That is why I said as long as Iheanacho is in the side, he is a preferred choice over Etebo to lead the attack. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 7:13pm On Aug 14, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: Capital YES! Ok invite a doctor who is a full-time lecturer in a university to come and perform a surgery after 30 years away from the field, he knows the procedures and everything but he is rusty and even the NMA wouldn't allow that, he will not be in charge of the surgery no matter his previous experience. Now you will agree with me that there are some tricks you pull off in the training ground but when you get to the main pitch you find it hard to do right? That's where game time comes into play, if you try such tricks continously you will eventually figure out how to implement it during a match proper so yes I think the game-time(the 33 minutes) afforded him the oppurtunity to implement those skills he learnt 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: I am not here to argue on behalf of Etebo alone, but the question is,how many other options have we explored in that number 9 position in recent games? How then do you know that they will not perform better than Iheanacho? Who knew that Etebo could play the box to box role until we played him there? Also everyone used to think that Etebo can play the Amf role but we saw that he is whack there, so for me, we should try other options because Iheanacho is just not working |
