I feel so sad. my 15weeks old baby has lost weight due to purging. she has been drooling, always trying to put her hand in her mouth, bringing out excessive saliva wit rashes on her cheek. saw the doctor today and she maintains baby is too early to be teething. however my mum and others think these are signs of teething. doc says keep breastfeeding and keep her hydrated. Lo plays well. no fever. but still stools 4x in a day. n
o loss of appetite.
she feels so light in her hand .how I wish this purging can stop.
Mama don't be sad abeg, feeling light does not always mean weight loss. A scale is the only way to prove weight loss. She might not have lost as much as you think. As per teething 15wks is not too early my boy started at 12 weeks and was doing all you listed even his gums were swollen but teething ordinarily should not cause purging. Just try and increase how often you wash her hands and anybody carrying her too must wash their hands more. The stooling may be from touching things and then putting in her mouth. This may be the time to buy a teething ring as well since it appears she wants something to chew on.

It's better to find out why she stopped feeding well first. Please visit your pead and do a check up for her. You never can tell, she might be ill.
I went through same with my DS and to my dismay he tested positive to malaria despite using treated net.
Also, it's too early for cereals. Formula milk alone is ok if you want to supplement.

Just as the doctor said, keep her hydrated. I suppose that will be with ORS and baby zinc if you are not giving her ordinary water yet. Also make sure she's breastfeeding well.

Again, was a test conducted to really check for fever? or it was just assumed since she's playing well and not running temperature?

sometimes, baby feeling light does not mean they are loosing weight except if the scale reading proves that which means you have to monitor that over a period of time.

she'll be fine. Well done.

Good evening mamas, how are your LO doing

Well, for me I don't think you should worry much...He is your first I presume...Most first born don't talk early especially the males. I know of three different families, one is my nephew he didn't start making sentences till he was 3yrs+ all he says then were some incoherent words..Now he is 5yrs and talks fluently.. His younger bro on the other side starts talking as early as 2yrs...the second is a little boy in my neighborhood he didn't start talking till he was about 6-7 honestly he is the quiet type though and the third is my friends son he is almost 3 now but hasn't start talking yet..

So I believe there is nothing wrong with your son at least doctors have confirmed that... You should just continue speaking to him even though he don't respond...Allow him to watch educating cartoons ...

He will definitely start...Every child develop at their own phase..

Thank you mamas for your input to my predicament. I'm sorry if i did I not respond to you personally. I'm beyond ragged out but I appreciate the kind gestures. We went to the hospital this morning and she was admitted. She has been under observation and series of tests has been run which all thankfully came back clear. The number of times she throws up has reduced from every fees to maybe once in 3feeds. She had a slight temperature earlier on but she is back to normal now. My phone has been switched off as the whole of Obinze town in Owerri has been calling me so hubby asked me to switch it off so they can call him. He has told them that we are in the hospital because of this Ice cream issue and when baby is out of the hospital and certified Ok, then we can visit the issue of apology or no apology but for now, anybody that is not calling to ask about the baby's well-being should stay away

Thank God your lo is getting better...pls as maamas have suggested its better to just apologise for peace to reign...

Happy to know your DD is doing better now.
Babies are not toys o. 5wks wey your body never recover fully from childbirth not to talk of the baby. In some cultures, you don't even go anywhere until after 40days.

Be diplomatic in the way you handle this issue of apology cos it seems they take it like you offended the whole family. You have expressed your annoyance already and they know it. Let your hubby face them. I'm sure he knows how to handle them.

These are signs of teething and ur baby is not too young to teeth. my sons first two teeth came out when he was 15weeks old so don't understand what that ur Dr is saying. He had all these signs except stooling. No need to panic and don't give any drug. She will get her appetite back.

@giddyperson, can I use d bleach for the floor tiles as I don't like the way I met the tiles where we stay...I washed my wall tiles with iron sponge,,,hard sponge and scouring powder...I also rinse with another soft sponge...

mama that asked about savlon on baby please discontinue it use... it will do more harm than good. in addition to swallowing risk other mamas has mentioned.. it will start killing the normal microflora the skin needs for defense by the immune system, posing the baby to risk of infection... Infact antibacterial soap and all are discouraged....

to mama that said a nurse told her to lay baby down on tummy as early as that,,, I doubt if the person is a nurse for real or doesn't know what she is saying...
the thing my eyes eyaff see for private hospital and hiring of diff people to wear white n be dia nurse ehn, I pity people... it is just a pity for my profession cos this so called Doctors are spoiling it d more all in the name of cheap labor and cutting cost....
Beware and if possible request for ur nurse license....
Yeah you can. Remember you are basically bleaching the tiles so be patient and spend time on each tile so you don't end up wasting the bleach

Thank you to all mamas in the house.
I have been reading post on the thread since yesterday and I must say, you all have been doing a great job.
I have really learnt a lot .

My DS will be 6 weeks on Thursday. He is on EBF and OK have been expressing and feeding with bottles at night but 2 days ago, he stopped accepting from the bottle when I feed him.
This afternoon, I asked my niece to feed him and it was same rejection.

What other method can I use? I will be resuming work in 4 weeks time.

CC: Alphamaiden, jaysmama, giddyperson, ahnie, zaynie, akorkor and other mums I can't mention

Im in the same shoes as you right now but mine is that my baby has totally forgotten how to suck from a bottle so even when she wants to take it her sucking pattern is still lousy therefore wasting most of the milk It's just to keep practicing sha and I practice when she's not really hungry cuz when hunger hits she won't answer me and my bottle again

spiceeamiee , I wish your baby speedy recovery. Sorry about that incident. You will be surprised but its likely your SIL didn't know baby was too young to take ice-cream. Yes...its common sense but still let's give her the benefit of doubt because will any SIL deliberately set out to harm their Brother's kids in a public setting? cry
Personally, I usually ask a mother if her baby can take certain types of snacks before I give the baby because I don't know and I can't shout.
Your SIL got emotional because she was TTC and at that advanced age for that matter. She may be so distraught, dejected and ashamed. Every incident may be coloured through TTC eyes at that stage. Me sef dey pity am. Its not easy at all. I suggest you finish caring for baby and making sure she is well, then going to see this your SIL. Explain that you didn't mean harm or insult and that you are sorry. Simple. You can also finish it up by praying fertility blessings on her. 47 and ttcing with her younger ones dropping their kids left right and center ...I don't want to imagine what she is passing through.

I count it all as blessings cuz it means my baby is feeding so well only on my breast milk.
