And there is no hard and fast rule that stipulates your partner should be your best friend?... optional1: This is a misconception,your spouse may or may not be your 'best of the best friends' For example,a man based abroad comes home for Christmas,and finds a girl that catches his fancy,they get acquainted and it finally leads to marriage,within a few months...does she automatically become his 'best of the best friends'?... NEVER. Best friend is not a title gotten overnight,unlike husband,wife,boyfriend,girlfriend... It is a function of the degree of closeness(emotional not physical,legal or contractual). This is what separates the LOGIC from the EMOTION. |

Forget the bs about your partner being your best friend - while there will always be some attraction for a best friend of the opposite sex, a long-term friendship is often much more important than a relationship, since the latter will often break after a few years, but a true friendship will last a lifetime! 1 Like |

That a man/woman is married doesn't mean he/she can't keep friends of the opposite sex as bestfriend even when your spouse is supposed to be your best friend. That your spouse is your bestfriend still limits what you've share with him/her, and what you would share with a bestfriend of the opposite sex. It's said that your spouse should be your bestfriend so one could freely express his/her feelings whether good/bad to their spouse and by so doing it makes communication easier. My husband may be my best friend while I share how my day was at work, who annoyed me and who didn't, how a particular person has an attitude, what my worries are, while at the same time I may as well have a besty of the opposite sex with whom I'm likely to share marital issues with, like: how my husband misbehaved and counsel on what to do, other relevant/irrelevant gossip I may or may not share with my husband but deemed it fit to share with that friend. Mind you, before you call someone your bestfriend your relationship with that person must have been defined as platonic and he/she is ok with it. |
