Armed robbers have invaded the Edo Central Hospital in Benin, casting aspersion on how safe hospitals are.

It was gathered that the robbers allegedly raped patients and female workers before carting away their belongings including cash, GSM handsets, and other valuables.

Patients never saw it coming, as no one could imagine robbers will have a hospital on their list of targets.

They were taken aback when the robbers, fully armed, stormed the hospital around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday and operated freely for hours.

The robbers, who were many, on arrival and ordered the people around, including medical personnel to lie face down before executing their mission.

Sunday’s incident forced patients in the hospital and their caregivers to stage a protest on Tuesday.

They protested around the hospital premises, appealed to the management of the institution to put in place security measures to ensure the safety of their life and property.

The protest disrupted work at the hospital.

Some of the victims of the crimes said the hospital lacked security, especially in the night.

David Osifor, is the state commissioner for health and he insisted that the incident that occurred at the hospital was a case of theft, rather than robbery and rape.

Osifor explained that the owner of the money stolen at the hospital might have disclosed it to those around her and she lost it to them.

“It happened in the female ward. It was not really an armed robbery case, it was just a minor scare and we are handling the matter,” he said.

“It is also not true that patients on admission were raped as being speculated," he told reporters.

The Commissioner, who said that the police had commenced an investigation into the incident, promised that adequate security measures would be in place to forestall re-occurrence.

Terrible! Insecurity everywhere.

The security in Central hospital Benin city is as porous as an overused kpekus!
There is absolutely no security and the level of negligence by its workers is damn scary!

Sometime back, a whole corpse deposited in their mortuary was found missing when the family of the deceased came to claim the corpse.

What could be worse than that

Many General hospitals across Nigeria are just like this.

During my service year in Northern Nigeria, the General hospital where I served was a goldmine for thieves. From bag snatching to phone theft, even parked motorcycles were stolen on a daily basis within the hospital premises. When on call duty, one would be praying & speaking in tongues for divine security.

This case of armed robbery and rape of patients and workers seem to be exaggerated though.

Na which kind armed robber dey rape patient on top her sick bed sef?

Imagine the commissioner of health trivializing the incident. Anyways that is expected!



I pity patients who still go there.


BTW, the new hospital building Oshiomole built and commissioned by Buhari is still empty with no single bed nor equipment and has been left fallow.

What am I even saying sef, I 4get say dem dey reason to convert am to a 5 star hotel.
