Dr. Godwin Maduka is the Managing Director and founder Las Vegas Pain Institute and Medical Centre, which is the largest and most comprehensive pain treatment practice group in Nevada, United States of America. He is a philanthropist who in a blink of eyes transformed Umuchukwu Community in Orumba South Legal Government Area of Anambra state to a modern city. He built over 100 houses for widows and poor in Umuchukwu town, built both primary and secondary schools and a gigantic medical centre in the community. Dr. Maduka also built a Police Station, barracks for the police and Nigerian Civil Defence Corps. To proclaim his faith in God, he also build and donated a Catholic and Anglican Churches including priest’s house, community and Civic Centre, village hall, Igwe’s palace, State High Court in Umuchukwu community among others. Dr. Maduka is an adjunct Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, Pain Management and Surgery from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Maduka recently granted interview to crop of journalists in his country home, Umuchukwu when he visited Nigeria for the burial of his elder brother, Onowu Sylvanus Obioma Maduka. www.odogwublog.com reporter, was there and reports. As a philanthropist, what can we attribute to your philanthropy in Umuchukwu community? Everybody knows that Umuchukwu in about 20 years ago cannot boast of a common light or drinking water and all the amenities eluded us. If you grew up in such abject poverty, you will have no choice but to do something about it. I started about 20 years doing something about it with the little money I use to get before I have left over. I use to do something, empowering people in the trade, training people in school. I trained over 90 percent of lawyers in this state and a lot of people in the higher education. When you see people living in thatched houses in this modern day, and you can do something about it, I think everybody will like to do something about it because nobody will like to live like that. Today, there is no thatched house in Umuchukwu community and most of the families can boast of their children in school. So, the philanthropy is out of necessity. It is not a desire but a necessity. You can’t make money and you come home with a fine car and find out that people around you are suffering and dying. We use to send people to Annunciation Hospital in Enugu because of simple illness and that is why I have to build a hospital here and furnish it, we don’t need to be sending them away. Even if I am not around, they have to be going there for treatment. We didn’t have even elementary school not to talk of secondary school. So, today we have both because people don’t need to trek more than miles away to get basic education. So the things we do here is out of necessity. What is your motivation in all these? I think that religious believe have something to do with what we do. Faith is another reason. If you believe you can do something, you can do that. If you also believe that you are the medium which God Almighty can use to help people because He doesn’t come down here to peoples’ homes. So, motivation has religious background. Also necessity like I said. Abject poverty can also influence one to do something good. I was in this town so poor that if you ask me to raise five thousand naira, it would take me a year to do that. Our town Umuchukwu was then known for town of native doctors and farmers. They didn’t believe much about formal education. Man was that illogical and unimaginable chance and I took it and I was able to pay back to my city. In the midst of all these efforts to touch people’s lives, do you encounter opposition? I am so glad that it happens because it makes me a better man. How can you even be alive and people accuse you of things you never done and it comes from somebody in your house – your next door neighbors. But truth never dies. No matter how long you try to cover the truth one day it will surface. That is what happened to me. The press at one point are thinking that I am just a monster but in my religious be..

Soloo Akugha: asterix

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Artsterix, an Enugu-based outdoor advertising firm, Sir Soloo Akugha, has identified the inability to raise loans for Outdoor Advertising projects, over the Nigerian Federal Government regulations and vandalisation of structures by ‘area boys’ which is now becoming a major challenge to advertising.
He said the crisis of government regulation in terms of rates is also forcing advertising firms to explore other options like the internet.

Akugha, expressed optimism, saying the fortune of outdoor business would improve for the better in future.
He described digital bill board as the new trend in outdoor advertising, which has elevated the sector. He noted that though digital bill board is quite expensive, it has added to the outdoor clienteles. Akugha said the association has a lot to do in engaging various governments in harmonising rates, such that regulatory bodies do not charge advertising firms arbitrary rates. He noted that outdoor operators should not be dragged into political campaign crises as witnessed by some agencies during the last general elections.
“Outdoor advertising is much cheaper compared to other platforms of advertising that are time bound. In fact, there is no reason to compare because most target audience of other platforms is limited, whereas outdoor reaches both target and unintended target audience,” he said of the state of the sector in Enugu State. He however noted that demand for outdoor advertising in Enugu State is okay, but that there are no big company advertisers. “There are short term advertisers,” he added.
According to him, outdoor advertising in Enugu State is not doing fairly well, but that producers of goods and services don’t find the need to advertise ‘’because they claim they have a ready market’’.
Lagos sets the pace in production and packaging. And the industry here is following closely to Lagos which is the hub. I will not rate it wonderfully, but we are not doing badly,” he added.

KSLEY - Kingsley Ubenyi

n this chat with newsmen, Mr. Kingsley Amechi Ubenyi, the Managing Director of KSLEY Group, one the biggest lending companies in Enugu and its environs tries to differentiate between genuine businessmen and wonder ventures, accusing those he called intruders for setting up wonder banks. Excerpts: Ubenyi We have a lot of people who are now deceiving people in the business of lending money; what makes KSLEY different from these fraudulent establishments? That’s the challenge we are facing now; some jumped into the business without proper foundation and legal backings and so the result is inevitable. Some want to tarnish the image of our business. What we are doing here in Enugu for instance is different from what every other person or company is doing. Before we started, we looked at the laws guiding such business and we tried to have enough legal backing to give our business a solid foundation. What is the legal backing you are talking about? It’s about licensing. We are backed up by the law which permits us to lend out money and to collect interest. And as the company continued to grow we decided to go into banking which led to the establishment of KSLEY Mega Micro Finance Bank. It all points to the fact that the company is doing well and we are progressing. Soon you will start hearing of KSLEY Mega University which is going to be launched very soon. So when you see a company that has direction and the sincerity is there, the company must grow. But when people jump into a business they know nothing about, they are bound to fail. Are you up to date with your payments? Sure. As I speak to you today we live up to our commitments with our business friends. Recently, we upgraded to banking and the procedure with regards to opening account, meeting up with CBN rules and regulations, created minor short term bottlenecks. But very soon we will have our final license. We do not owe anybody and we cannot owe because we are disciplined in what we are doing and we are following the rules strictly. This business is about trading, financial discipline and building trust. We had our annual stakeholder’s conference with our business friends in February, and we told them what to expect during the year. So we engage people who are involved in what we are doing; we maintain our business promises as discussed. I don’t see any problem or anybody complaining except people who are trying to pull others down because they are envious. How has your company contributed to the development of the economy? It may interest you to know that in less than five years of our existence our company has over 1000 employees, but it’s unfortunate that nobody has ever commended us for our efforts towards creating employment. Also, we have been working hard to improve the economy by encouraging young entrepreneurs and granting them funds to do business; and we are committed to it. But when somebody wakes up one morning and starts trying to beat the queue, it doesn’t work in this line of business. You must follow the law and operate within the specifications of the law. So when you have a direction and you are working hard to actualize it some people will try to pull you down; that’s what we are suffering but we are not deterred. That’s why I call on the government to come to our aid, to assist us to create jobs. What is the secret of your outstanding success while others are folding? It is not by magic because in the first place we are not a wonder bank. We are genuinely in business. We started with lending and we are progressing and diversifying. We are still employing and as others are going under we are building more business empires; we are also building a new university; these things are verifiable. So we are not on the same plane with the wonder banks. Our integrity, sincerity and trust we have built over the years are the things that are sustaining us. What back-up do you have in case of an emergency? There is no banking without capitalization; that is primary. The edge of our sustainability is our ability to assess and determine the ability of our customer to pay back the loan. It is foolhardy to give loan to persons who has no capacity of paying back. Such loan is money thrown away; in our line of business the primary determinant is ability of the customer to return the loan. How are you coping with the recession? The recession in the country is really affecting every business but as you know some other businesses are thriving despite the recession. The magic is managerial ability and ability to adapt.

CBAAC: Strategic Master Plan:
General Introduction

The Centre houses all the materials which constitute the core collections, artifacts, and rare cultural items that were used during FESTAC '77. The decision to handover these materials to Nigeria Was to reinforce and build upon the gains of the historic festival. It was in fact in fulfilment of Nigeria 's pledge to keep the materials in trust for the 59 Black and African countries and communities which participated in the Festival that gave impetus for the establishment of the Centre.

To achieve its set goals, the Centre holds seminars, workshops, public lectures, exhibitions and symposia. Coscharis Tech gets NITDA approval for production of Cosmos Computers

In line with government’s drive to diversify the economy through indigenous production, Coscharis Technologies, a Nigerian information and technology solutions company, has been licensed as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the manufacture of the Cosmos Computer brand in Nigeria, a statement has said.
The high speed, compact computers, will cut across the low-end, middle class and high-end space and is specially designed as a rugged device that can work anywhere in the world. It is also supported by world-class after-sales support from Coscharis Technologies offices nationwide.
Speaking during the presentation of a provisional license to the tech company, Vincent Olatunji, acting director-general, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), according to the statement, noted that the certification was an epoch-making event as Coscharis Technologies was the first Nigerian company to be issued an OEM license since his assumption of office.
According to the NITDA boss, “the certification of Coscharis Technologies for the production of the Cosmos Computer brand is in line with government’s efforts at promoting human capital development in the country particularly within the ICT space. The local computer hardware production in 2015 was seven percent and we realise that if there is no direct policy initiative to support local production, we will continue to play at a low level.”
“When we were approached by Coscharis Technologies for certification for the manufacture of Cosmos Computers, we thought it necessary to support the laudable ambition in order to bring more players into the field as well as encourage competition in the market. Following the successful inspection of the company’s factory, we are satisfied that the brand is positioned to meet the demand for high quality computer products and will add value to the Nigerian market,” he added.
In his response, Sunday Emomine Mukoro, managing director, Coscharis Technologies, stated that the journey to Cosmos Computers began about fifteen years ago and is based on the vision of the company’s founders to be in the mainstream of technology drive in Nigeria.
He said, “Cosmos Computers is designed to fill the gap for a high quality, proudly Nigerian computer brand that can compete globally. The computers are high speed, compact models enhanced with 21st century methodology to give them an edge in the market.
