Yh sir.
Reports has it that they were physically more imposing than our boys but our boys gave a good account of themselves.

Hmmmm.

Meaning there is still plenty of work to be done.

They need to throw that camp open and select about the best group of U17 players in the land.

No worries.

Probably held down due to academic work.

I mean, I don't expect him to be here all the time.

I hope Goodjoe can learn from this. the improvements that a team and individual players experiences or enjoys from consistent run of games is indispensable.

I am not or against a consistent run of a team playing together. But first, you need a team before the run. That happens by thorough and careful selection of the best in every role.

Where we are now is looking for the best player in every role.

Our boys look their age.. We should also look at boys from the NPFL tournament. Some might be overage but certainly not all from the pictures we saw. Those boys have played a full tournament and that could be invaluable.

Rosenborg Newboy Adegbenro Steals The Headline With Debut Goal Against Ajax
August 17, 2017020

Samuel Adegbenro got off to a flying start with his new Norwegian side by scoring the lone goal in their 1-0 win over European giants Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena.

Adegbenro joined Rosenborg 72 hours ago from fellow Norwegian side Viking for a fee in the region of €1.5m, and was named on the bench for their Europa League qualifiers against Ajax.

The 21 year old proved his money worth ‎nine minutes after coming on with the only goal of the game in the 77th minute to hand Rosenborg a shock 1-0 win.

Adegbenro will no doubt be pinning for a start when the host the return leg next week in Norway, where a win will see them progress to the group stage of the Europa League.

Nigerian-Born Liverpool Winger Adekanye Named In Netherlands Squad
Published: August 18, 2017
Nigerian-Born Liverpool Winger Adekanye Named In Netherlands SquadIbadan-born winger Bobby Adekanye is set to return from the international wilderness after he was named in the provisional Netherlands U19 squad for their upcoming friendlies.

The 18-year-old has not featured for the Dutch youth teams after suffering an ankle ligament injury while on international duty with the U17 squad in 2016.

KNVB coach Maarten Stekelenburg has taken note of the fact that Adekanye is in tip-top condition and included him in his provisional squad.

The Netherlands U19s will face Belgium (August 30), Portugal (September 1) and hosts Finland (September 4) during the international break.

Adekanye, who has caps for Netherlands U16 and U17 national teams, has not ruled out playing for the country of his birth, Nigeria, in future.

I hear Dangote going really vocal about acquiring Arsenal. Well, fair play to him.
Since he's a football lover, one cannot understand why he has not considered leaving a legacy in Nigerian football or sports in the shape of a world class academy in Kano. The Qatari's he's trying to mimick have developed a world class academy in their country, even Abramovich owns a football club in Russia and his company pays the salary of a world class coach like Fabio Capelo for the Russian NT.
For the touted amount acquiring Arsenal would cost (£2-5 Billion), a tiny fraction of that amount can change the life of Nigerian football for good.

Dangote is a business man, the business model has to make sense to him. How profitable will such an academy be?

See my brother. I advocate that we use players of the right age for this age grade.

Parading under aged players will not do us any good.
The NFF cannot tell us that all the players that featured at that NPFL U15 are overraged.

I saw a couple of them who were very obviously U15.

All players of that age grade born in Nigeria are eligible to be considered for selection.
Select them first and let the MRI scan be the final judge.

If this was how the 2013 and 2015 Eaglets teams were selected players like Success and Osimhen would probably not be who and where they are today.

you know our way na.. make generalizations as facts.. How could an official say they were all older? Did he check each and everyone of them personally?

We are never thorough in our culture. We make generalizations and it becomes "them say", then everyone believes it.

Amuneke publicly said he doesn't believe the hype. The boy should come down on his own and compete with the others.

No official invitation. lol

Benin loss undermines League stars claim to ascension

Colin Udoh, KweséESPN

Nigeria lost to Benin in their African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifier this week. To put that in perspective, consider that in 21 previous attempts - spanning 58 long years - the Squirrels had never won against the Super Eagles.

For the second international game in a row, Nigeria have fallen to a side they had never previously lost to, and adding insult to injury this week, they did it via a penalty in stoppage time.

It causes deep introspection, judging from the reaction on social media and in the mainstream press, every time Nigeria lose to seemingly inferior opposition. The calls are especially loud for foreign-based players to be discarded in favour of domestic players.

The latest such panic came after the 2-0 home loss to South Africa in an Afcon qualifier in June. The airwaves positively vibrated with pundits and local league backers stridently talking up the virtues of the many talented local league players who should have been called up, and would supposedly have done a better job than the Europe-based players.

Lampooning foreign-based players and talking up their domestic counterparts has become a national pastime, clear proof of George Santayana's famous - and oft misquoted - truism that "those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

Back in 2001, a similar situation played itself out. With the foreign-based squad having qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations with one game to spare, the NFA succumbed to calls to give the home lads a run-out in the dead rubber against the Sudan. It proved a near-disaster.

By the end of the game in Enugu, which Nigeria won 2-0, fans in the stands had changed their traditional chant of "All we are saying, give us more goals" to, "All we are saying, no more home-based".

The overall performance was poor, and not even the flattering scoreline could plaster over it. Fast forward 16 years and the scenario is almost similar. But this time, against Benin, the local players had a chance to make their mark.

CHAN is a competition specifically designed to give them a leg up on their foreign-based counterparts. Rather than press their claims, they contrived instead to compromise their positions. Benin are objectively a much weaker team. In the past, even at senior level, the results have been one-sided, including a 6-0 win for the Super Eagles in 2005.

These lads let themselves down, it must be said, and have shut the mouths of their biggest proponents. This speaks to deeper issues in Nigerian football development.

The NFF Technical and Development Committee needs to dive into the granular details of the real issues afflicting the country's game, isolating said issues, and suggesting long-term solutions with clear executable actions to be taken.

In the meantime, there is one opportunity for the domestic league players to make restitution, and it comes as early as this weekend. Nothing but a comprehensive win in the return fixture against Benin will do.
