Chief Executive Officer of City Light, Chief Emmanuel Okeson’s stature is no doubt contrast to the popularity his company’s name has gained over the years. His humble attitude and appearance always prompt those who are privilege to meet him to doubt if he’s really the man that own the well talked about City Light. Born on the 1st of July 1965 in Ukpor Nwewi local government area of Anambra State. As a lover of education from the crèche, he began his elementary education at Umuohama Community School in 1972, after which he traveled to Lagos to enroll at Government College at Surulere, Lagos. He later obtained a certificate in Administration and Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and currently pursuing a degree course in Business Administration at the same institution in Ghana. Founded in 1989, City Light Company in Ghana has grown to be a household name in quality and affordable lightning in Ghana and beyond. Mr. Okeson’s adventure into business actually started in 1984 in Nigeria, when he set up his first company in Nigeria: Emmatex Industrial Agency which was into importation and distribution of electrical and industrial components and spare parts. In his quest to explore more opportunities within the West Africa region, Mr. Okeson in 1985 ventured in to West Coast trading, when he began to export cables, bulbs, fixtures, beauty products, kola nut among other products, after which he finally relocated to Republic of Ghana and established City Light Limited in 1989. Mr. Okeson customer centered service won him the Ghana most customer focused CEO for 2011 and 2012 respectively, among other awards. Mr. Okeson, no doubt mean different things to different people in Ghana: to the National Association of Nigerian Student –Ghana (NANS), he’s a father. To All Nigeria Community, he’s the Chairman Board of Trustee. To the Nigeria High Commission, he’s a worthy ambassador, while to general public; he’s a successful and generous business man, who has contributed hugely to good course of several institutions in Ghana and Nigeria religious organizations. His company was also the major sponsor of the Miss Nigeria Ghana pageant 2012. ADVERTISEMENT Mr. Okeson who also have investments in other sectors of Ghana economy , including Agriculture, Civil Construction, Real Estate, Water Engineering, Micro Finance and Hospitality, is one of the very few Nigerians recently selected as outstanding personalities, awarded by the West Africa Nobles Forum which it aim is to pool together prominent West Africans with sublime achievements. One of the distinguished merit awards recently bestowed on Chief Okeson is the award of recognition by the City People media group during the 5th year anniversary of the West African magazine put together on 3rd of October at Coconut, Accra. Expressing his heartfelt joy on several awards that have been bestowed on him, he said: “it’s a very important award for me, because it shows how appreciative the people that bestow this award on me value my contribution to the development of Ghana. And the recognition of my effort so far will make me to do more in contributing to the economical growth of this country. “ Speaking on his plan to be a solution to the work scarcity in Ghana: “in creating more employment in a land where thousands are looking for jobs, I have decided to increase my workforce to 500 in the next few years. “ Speaking further on the challenges being faced as a Nigerian operating in Ghana “Though there are challenges as a Nigerian running variety of business in Ghana, to the extent that sometimes, I feel like quitting.” “There’s no doubt about the fact that Ghana government is doing its best to encourage investors, but the problem some of us have -has to do with discrimination. There has been some mark labeled on Nigerian entrepreneurs. Average Ghanaian often thinks every Nigerian entrepreneur is a fraudster. I think if the Ghana government could help educate the people on their attitude toward foreign investors, most especially Nigerians, it will help in encouraging us to help develop the economy.” “Yes, it is true that not all Nigerians or other foreigners are doing legal business, and that happens everywhere, but labeling every Nigerian has a potential suspect is not encouraging. And as the Chairman Board of Trustee of All Nigeria Community in Ghana, I always admonish Nigerians to always project good value of Nigeria wherever they are” 3 Likes |

Ugwo Anacletus has a biography that would be the envy of
most young men. Below is a little from his Biography, which
he generously provided for this interview:
Born into the family of Hon. Barr Ugwo Cletus in Umuoma
Oboama Nguru Aboh Mbaise in Imo State, Nigeria, Ugwo
started on a good note academically. It is however pointless
to argue that he is a brainiac with a difference. He won cups
and awards while in secondary school in competitions like
Cowbell Mathematics competition, Nigeria Secondary School
Students English and French Competition to list but a few.
Ugwo is a creative mind with ten books to his credit.
Other interesting facts are:
He emerged the World Best Biologist Student in August 2013
in the undergraduate world competition held in New York, USA
where more than six hundred and fifty one schools
participated.
He was a speaker in UNESCO Award Education for
sustainable development in Japan in 2014. He has honours
from University of Ghana, University of Toronto, Canada and
currently a final year student of Federal University of
Technology, Owerri. Recently was awarded by chartered
institute of management accountants (CIMA) as a CIMA
management consultant. And a graduate of Microbiology from
the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
He took time out from his busy schedule to discuss with us.
We hope you enjoy the reading.
What you inspired you to start up the ANAKCO PALM FARM
CARE IDEA?
It was the saying, the Future is not something we enter, rather,
something we create. To me Anacletus, i belive that thousands
of candles can be lighted from a single candle without the
single candle shortened. It is clear that the proposed oil mill in
Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State is an
attempt to promote and encourage socio-economic and
human development in the area, create employment
opportunities for the youths and create means of generating
more revenue for the local government. Hence, it is clear that
the proposal presents a new dimension of development.
ANAKCO PALM FARM is willing to restore the lost glory of
palm in NIGERIA and West Africa.
How I Won 228 Million Naira The NUS ENTREPRENEUR OF
THE WEEK
You won the Nigerian Society of Engineers Innovation
Competition with a prize of 20 million naira and came second
place at the Global African Investment Summit with a prize
currently over 200 million naira. How did you get to hear
about the competitions?
I follow various websites for information regularly. An example
is opportunitiesforafricans.com
andnigerianuniversityscholarships.com. And i ensured i
applied promptly for various ones. I got a letter from my local
government to back my application for the NSE competition
and that helped in some ways.
What are the major issues you had to overcome?
I had to overlook my FUTO (Federal University of Technology,
Owerri) education, and finally came out with 2’1 (2nd Upper
Class Degree). I never wanted it to disturb me or hold me
back from my ideas. Going to class was a problem, i was
always so busy. My reading was always either in a car or
flight, on the way to one program or the other.
I have traveled to over 49 countries in the world either for one
program or another.
How I Won 228 Million Naira The NUS ENTREPRENEUR OF
THE WEEK
Tell us about ANACKO PALM FARM CARE
Anakco palm farm care is a palm farm and oil mill that
cultivates, harvests, processes palm fruits into end products of
palm oil, palm kernel oil, and other by-products used for the
purposes including as cooking oil, in margarines, noodles,
baked goods, bio-fuel, soaps, detergents and surfactants,
cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other household and
industrial products.
Based on several consultations, conditions and considerations
on the business, I decided to run the palm farm business in an
undeveloped community in Aboh Mbaise part of Imo state
Nigeria, known as Oboama Nguru community. More reason
why I chose the site is due to the land fertility, high rate of
rainfall which is favourable for the cultivation and production
of palm and palm oil, easy access to palm fruits from the
farmers, extensive land etc. Due to the temperature, humidity,
river and other environmental conditions favourable for palm
growth, I chose my site.

Ndia chere anti biara ikpo oga EBA An indigenous agro-allied solutions provider: Air Business Express Limited (ABX World) has joined Global Good Agricultural Practice (Global G.A.P), which sets worldwide standards for safe and sustainable agriculture. ABX World, a first class globally recognized courier/cargo firm is the only Nigerian Company to attain the height, with a target to liberate Nigerians from economic slavery. Global G.A.P. members according to the firm creates private sector incentives for agricultural producers worldwide to adopt safe and sustainable practices to make the world a better place to live in for the global community. According to the firm, its mission is to globally connect farmers and brand owners, like notable supermarkets in Europe and North America, in the production and marketing of safe food to provide reassurance for consumers. The Group, the firm said, lays the foundation for the protection of scarce resources by the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices with a promise for a sustainable future. In a letter endorsed by Global G.A.P CEO, Dr. Kristian Moeller, he said ABX World has become part of producers and suppliers members who “demonstrate their commitment to fully comply with the Global G.A.P. “Standard and hereby act as industry leaders in Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P). As members, they are entitled to use the Global G.A.P. logo and represent their producer interests in the Global G.A.P. governance structure. In this position they may act as a driver for innovation in their market and profit from first mover advantages”. Speaking on the achievement, Captain John Okakpu, MD/CEO of ABX World Limited, expressed delight over the Global G.A.P membership status, adding that the feat would help place Nigeria in the global agricultural export map. Captain Okakpu said that ABX World is the new face of agro-allied export in the country and fashioned to train farmers and others within the logistics and supply chain. “The global network that we operate at ABX World is very richly enhanced by our strategic alliances with some of the biggest and best players in the industry as follows; Pilot Air Freight based in USA, including local national certifications by NCAA and FAAN. Speaking on sundry agricultural export development in the country, Capt. Okakpu urged the Federal, State and Local Governments not to relent on efforts to get the country’s agricultural programmes on the right track. Citing Anambra State Government’s strides in this regard, the ABX World Boss said “Solutions to the nation’s economic challenges are no quick fixes; however, agriculture is that sector that can do it for us. Years ago when we started this journey, many people thought it was a child’s play or one of those cacophonic statements and blabbing. Today, with this membership, ABX World is positioned to change the face of agro-allied industry in Nigeria. We are going to train farmers in different certifications, while leveraging the network to bring in off-takers like we are doing in Anambra State. Chief Willie Obiano’s administration has shown a complete total commitment in agriculture and desire to be the leading agricultural export state in Nigeria. “It is heart-warming that Anambra State Government has taken the bull by the horn, dolling out N1.5billion SMEs loans program at nine per cent single interest rate; accessible to farmers. This is what the country needs! The most encouraging of all is the airfreight subsidy which of course empowers the farmers to be able to transport their product overseas without quagmires. This will boost the confidence level of off-takers and boost agricultural state in the State; others can emulate this gesture. “I am encouraging every State Government to accept this ‘proposal of economic restoration through agriculture’ which ABX World presents to all. It is not the time to curry cheap political gains by engaging on unsavory and verbal attacks on opponents; rather we must close ranks to achieve this goal. “Why I am particular about this development? It wouldn’t have come at a better time than now President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has launched ‘Green Alternative’ project. It is laudable, only if fully implemented”. He however advised SMEs, especially those in the agricultural sector to leverage franchise business model to better their worth even in the present economic recession. Captain Okakpu said that leading food and other supply chains in Europe and other parts of the world thrive through franchise business. “It pains me seeing young Nigerians sweat from day to day without results. The single reason is that most of us are ‘myopic’ about franchise business ventures. Why open clusters of shops in Alaba market, Alade, Ladipo, or whichever market while ten of you can leverage a big brand’s name to do business without qualms. Let our people think out of the box. Look at what Slot Systems is doing in the phone retail business; people are now using Slot’s name to set up businesses, because it is a reputable brand. Very soon, such things will begin to happen in the agric sector. We can’t folds our hands waiting for the government while we perish in penury. Now is the time to work the talks”, he concluded. 2 Likes |
