You see, like I said *with the same weapon power* they will finish the nigerian army. Even with what they manage not well armed than NA who even have air support, they still manage to pose a big threat and have being slaying NA...then imagine them with alot of tankers and air support.

Bro, there's something called rules of engagement in a democracy era. That's applicable in the war against terrorism too. If we go to war against the Chadian troops or Cameroon, we will level them over and over.

You've seen the Cameroonian navy flagship? They won't see NNS Unity and Centenary coming on radar.

Their alpha jet and helos will be brought down by shilka or our obsolete ADS. Fortunately for us. We're to receive high tech military aircrafts this year.

Their ground Troops/assets will get marked by our ISR and our CH3, and others will lighten up the area. We also own military satalites.

Man, in west or Central Africa, don't mess with the Nigerians, Senegalese and Ghanians in a full scale war as these countries will lighten you up in three ways: Air, naval and land.

False. With same weapons the Nigerian military will trounce most military in Africa. If you are close to a senior military officer or even a mid ranking officer, you will know the amount of rigorous training our officers used to go through before advancing up the ladder. They went for training in the UK, India, Pakistan, sometimes in the US. Officers exams are set and marked by foreigners so the issue of cheating did not arise. Nigerian infantry soldiers are one of the best in the world outside the British and probably the Israelis. Note, Ethiopia also has very good infantry. Nigerian military has excelled in every major external conflict they participated in ie; Burma, Congo, Sierria Leone, Liberia, Only in the Sudan peace keeping under Jonathan that the Nigerian military performed woefully. This was due to lack of adequate arms and lack of motivation of the officers because of unchecked corruption.

Boko Haram was a problem due to two main issues. First was that it was an internal insurgency and not a war, so an outright military onslaught was not possible. Secondly, and most importantly, Boko Haram had supporters within the military, government and civil society, so the Nigerian government and military was being sabotaged from within. Another important fact was that Boko Haram became an industry with lots of people profiting from it - Top Generals, Top politicians, local and international negotiators, they did not want it to end.

If you think Shagari was democratically elected, then you must be joking. Obasanjo backed Shagari against a more competent Awolowo. The military practically put Shagari as president. And his reelection beating Awolowo and Azikwe by a large margin was a joke. This was not to mention the pervasive corruption in that administration second only to that witnessed under Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari was more lenient to the Biafran soldiers. It was mainly a police action for him and his men when he fought at Enugu and Awka. ( 1968 - 69) Just to bring erring brothers back to the fold. Ojukwu remained grateful - please refer to Buhari's speech of Monday morning.

Nice insight but i think NA still make noise on past glories. The current ones are mostly corrupt with lost combatant training with time due to no war. And the sojas only know how to drink at mammy markets, chasing women and brutalizing unarmed civilians. Even d UN peacekeeping, they just go there to make money hiding behind sanctions they shouldnt be attacked and come back fresh and fat. Then when posted to face a real challenge where land mafians bokoharamites or chadian sojas in disguise r ready to fight, they get tamed mostly. We know the high amount of casualties or lost sojas the military hide the nums of death, coz its so embarrasing.

Instead of you to be at least thankful for buhari for protecting you from foreign aggression, you are here displaying hatred. If Nigeria becomes weak as a result of balkanization or instability as you guys are advocating, we will be highly vulnerable to attacks on three fronts by very aggressive neigbours, all controlled by France, Cameroon, Niger and chad.

You guys seem to forget that Buhari is a US trained general, so you cannot question him on military strategy. What was the point of wasting the lives of your officers just to drive your aggressor to the border and leave them there, for them to settle and plan an attack again. Buhari carried out the best military strategy by showing them that he could take N’Djamena if wanted and Nigeria would not spare them again if they attack us. That is how the Israeli General instil fear and respect on its hostile Arab neighbours.

I am always amazed on how someone who had never joined the Boys Scout will be lecturing a US trained military general on military tactics.

Chasing the Chadian forces 50km to their capital was a surprise move and in a war, the element of surprise is the most potent weapon. Buhari could have taken the capital if he wanted simply because the Chadians were highly unprepared for a full onslaught. Same tactics was used by Sadam Hussein on Kuwait. Kuwait city was taken in an overnight surprised attack. Same tactics Ariel Sharon used in taken the Suez Canal from Egypt.

If Buhari who successfully defended nigeria against Chadian occupation is a dullard, then what are you? What thing of note outside keyboard attacks on social media have you ever achieved?

His stubbornness have been of old.
SSBN:
FAMILY.

In the late 1970s, shortly after the civil war and early 1980s, a permanent drought ravaged the entire African Sahel. This led to the deaths of thousands. Thousands more emigrated from one region to another freely despite existing inter state borders. It is in this context of crisis that Nigerian populations begin to occupy certain Cameroonian and Chadian islands arising as a result of the drying up of Lake Chad.

But we must realise that for those living in this area, the lines demarcating both countries by Britannia were arbitrary as far as they were concerned. The inhabitants have coexistenced for generations, and were for the most part family. If the settlers, especially Chadian populations live in peace, sharing their useful land and somehow endorsing Nigerian domination? Can we really speak of fixed boundaries in this doubly unstable region?

Shortly thereafter, successive military administrators of Borno State supported this occupation by establishing its domination over territories that theoretically were in Chadian soil. Curiously, the Nigerian settlement does not seem to be considered foreign.

In 1962 the Lake Chad Basin Commission was established. Iron bars 10 km distant from each other were erected in the Lake to serve as effective border demarcation points. People from both sides lived in relative peace.

The gradual withdrawal of the waters of Lake Chad began changing the situation.

CLIMATE CHANGE.

Since the dawn of the twentieth century, the Lake has been receding :23,500 km in 1962. 19,000 km in 1973. Thus in the mid-1990’s, over 30 villages have been created by more than 11,000 Nigerians in the Chadian of Lake Chad. The contentious Darak, located 35km east of the border with Nigeria was originally occupied by Nigeria fisherman who followed the withdrawal of the waters of the lake in the late 1980’s.

PROVOCATION.

image nigeriannation.com
On 18 April 1983, in a well planned and rehearsed operation, three thousand Chadian soldiers under the command of Idris Derby invaded and seized 19 Islands in the Lake Chad axis in Borno State. Twenty four hours later six villages in Borno State fell to Chadian troops.

Stunned by this daring unprovoked attack, Nigeria’s President Alhaji Shehu Shagari orders the Commander of the Nigerian Army 3rd Army Division General Muhammadu Buhari to flush out the invaders.

General Buhari, in his capacity as General Officer Comnanding (GOC) augmented his forces with the Nigerian Army 21st Amoured Brigade in Maiduguri.

A skilled military tactician General Buhari resisted the temptation to use Nigeria’s overwhelming superiority in amoury and man power to charge headlong . He knew the Chadians were highly skilled fighters who use their excellent mobility to their advantage. Instead he ordered the Nigerian Army Scout Regiment to recconnitor Chadian military positions.

The Nigerian Army Scout Regiment is the reconnaissance arm of the infantry. Their job is to obtain and disperse viral combat and battlefield information on the enemy under any conditions.

An Army Scout assigned to the 301 Field Artillery Regiment scans the horizon for artillery targets in the vast featureless plains of the Sambisa Forest.
Reports from Scouts confirmed the Generals suspicion. Expecting a massive retaliatory attack spearheaded by tanks, the occupying Chadian troops had prepared anti series of tank obstacles on the likely approaches by digging 10 ft trenches around fortified positions. The plan was to lure Nigerian tanks towards the myriad of concealed trenches, making it impossible to navigate. Once trapped the tanks would then be engaged by concealed troops with anti-tank weapons and RPG’s at close range.

SHOCK AND AWE.

With the Intel gathered by scouts the GOC began preparation for a punitive attack. Taking advantage of the night Nigerian troops quitely moved into flanking positions.
At day break, the Nigerian Army, under the able Commander General Muhammadu Buhari launched a massive operation to dislodge the invading Chadian forces. 4,000 soldiers besieged Chadian forces on three fronts. As Chadian troops came under relentless artillery bombardment from the eastern flank, Nigerian soldiers in the Western axis began their push to link up with the 3rd strike component in the rear, effectively encircling Chadian forces.

As Chadian casualties mounted General Buhari ordered a temporary halt to the advance, to allow Chadian forces an escape route back into Chad via the northern axis.

Stunned and disoriented by the unexpected attack from seemingly everywhere by Nigeria infantry, Chadian soldiers began to abandoned their positions in a disorganized manner and fled the battlefield in droves, leaving their vehicles and equipment behind.

It was at this moment that Nigerian troops, led by General Buhari gave chase to the fleeing Chadian soldiers. To the General, flushing out the invaders was not enough, he was determined to make a bold statement to the Chadians and teach them a bitter lesson.

Nigerian troops crossed the border into Chadian territory and continued its pursuit. Orders from Nigeria’s President to halt his advance fell on deaf ears. Nigerian troops continued its advance until they were 50 kilometres from the N’Djamena, the Chadian Capital. Facing possible court marshal General Buhari stoped the advance and withdrew his forces.

General Buhari was immediately summoned by the President for disobeying a direct order from the President to stop his advance. In his defence the General claimed in the heat of battle he was unaware he had crossed into Chadian territory.
