@DmainMan you are very stupid! what do you mean? You mean in the north they don't have first class students? Illiterate!

Let me tell you that real first class students in Nigeria are those produced by Northern universities because there is no much nepotism and corruption in their academic system. This is contrary to what happens in most southern universities where you can pay for or negotiate grades.

Ask any of your friend who studied in the north the battle behind awarding first class. It seems to me that you such people from south that feel no northerner is educated. You need to widen your horizon!
I totally agree with you. I really dont know what this thread is turning into. It was just yesterday one baby factory guy came here and started abusing Hausa/Fulani and blaming them for the delay and here is DmainMan dropping rubbish who i thought was not in anyway a Tribal jingoist, but i was wrong. To say 70% of southern graduate are fake is an understatement. DmainMan should confine himself to giving scholarly advice if not he will be dealt with squarely too.

Common man. Don't be rude and dont allow emotions control u. Do you even know my tribe? Who told you I dont acknowledge intelligent Northerners? Please change your mentality, argue and think like an educated person. Dont play the tribalism card here. You can go to the politics section and do this.

The main reason why PRESSID was scrapped is because so many northern candidates failed and did not make the list. There is nothing like federal character in Pressid, only d best gets it irrespective of your state. Since Nigeria governance is based on federal character, hence it had to be scrapped for peace.

Nigerians will still argue with facts!!!

That's the laughable thing about us. Too unreasonably sensitive to reason normally and make intelligent comments or reach non-rational deductions.

Nice one. The bad governance had made youths to be brainwashed thinking this is a favour. All countries in the world send their students on scholarship. I had different developed counties as my classmates with sole aim of learning new ideas and developing their countries further. After their studies, all students went home except we Nigerians and Ghanians huzzling to earn more money because no where to be fixed.

Scholarships is very good if there is a good structure. All scholars should b given employment in universities, agencies and research institution to impact Nigerians and the government should be thankful for this. Graduating scholars certificates and transcripts should be sent to the Government who gave scholarship and returned to scholars when they report home. That is d norm. However, the reverse is d case in Nigerians whereby 80% of the scholars are unemployed and have forgotten what they learnt.

The main reason y Nigerian government are giving scholarship is to give back to their godfathers and achieve federal character through this means. This is y Pressid was curbed since only d highest ranking candidates gets it thereby Northern states were not included due to their poor performance therefore scrapped. Our leaders are not ready to make Nigeria better.

Let me interject here. Everyone seems to have an opinion, even on matters they know nothing.

Did you take the PRESSID qualifying tests? The results are displayed at the end of your test.

The test result is combined with your O level results - 70% and 30% respectively.

You can calculate your score and know if you made the grades or not. The pass mark for the second edition was about 66%.

The PRESSID scholarship was the one of the most transparent exercises ever carried out by the Nigerian government.

Unfortunately, a session of the country consistently outperform another session since no Federal character assurance, only merit.

I had many friends that made the 2015 list and these scholars were never sponsored.

Merit in Nigeria died on the altar of Federal character. It is high time everyone grew at his or her own pace.

Wow. Can't you guys argue without any derisory remarks. Must you always fight and abuse in any argument. Why turning this into tribalism and playing victim card? Who is talking about First class here? Can't you reason like an intellectual for once and deal in peace.

So because I disagree with your notion and argument, based on this, it means I automatically hate you and your tribe. See me see trouble o!. I don't need to argue with you because it changes nothing. Nothing changes the TRUTH.

Insightful I must say. And you deserve my salute.

Sadly, every part of Nigeria is forced to move with others in a convoy. That way, all parts are kept crawling at a slow speed even when some have wings and desires to fly. Nigeria won't develop this way - it's not a curse.

I am very disappointed in you @Dmainman, I always thought you had the capacity clear, coherent and unbigoted thinking but it appears I am wrong. Many Nigerians from the south erroneously believe that Northerners are uneducated, this is far from reality. If you have travelled around Nigeria and have interacted with graduates from the North and South, you will realize that talent and academic potential is spread across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Being a northerner does not make one dull and being a southerner does not make one sharp. Yes, there have been northerners who got the PTDF Scholarship without merit but there are also southerners who got the same PTDF scholarship without merit. I don't know why Pressid was cancelled but I believe if there was true merit in the process almost 50% of the 102 recipients would be northerners. If your position is that there was merit in the Pressid process then you should also agree that there was merit in the recent DSS recruitment exercise that yielded 51 recruits for Katsina and 5 for Akwa Ibom. The reality of Nigeria is that every ethnic group in Nigeria tries to outdo the other when someone from their group occupy any office whether in public or private sector. If a Hausa man occupies an office most of the recruits for that office would be Hausa, same thing happens if an Igbo man occupies the office. Every Nigerian is marganilized and no Nigerian is marginalized. This is the reason for over 50 years of Royal Dutch Shell's operations in Nigeria no northerner has made director or even manager. It is the reason why for over 50 years the Igbo produced a Chief of Army Staff just once.

If we want to build a new and better Nigeria, we must move away from painting one group as culprit in our collective failure. We must admit how we have wrong one another and collectively resolved to change our ways.

Nobody is saying northerners don't have intelligent individuals. The point is that if there's an academic assessment between them and the southerners at any level without any partiality, the southerners will perform overwhelmingly better

This is a simple truth

I had to go back and reread what DMainMan initially posted to understand what triggered this argument and I still do not understand how some of you interpreted it as Northerners not having first class graduates or the North not having good schools.

He said a program was discontinued because applicants from the South were outperforming those from the North. If you think he's lying, you should say so but even with that he provided links to buttress his point.

Come on guys, we are all applying for advanced degrees which means we should be capable of logical reasoning and what's up with the insults? Can't you disagree with another person without cursing or being obnoxious?
