More reason I don't visit my mum relatives is because of this "You must prostrate" of a thing,As an Edo man(Okpella) we do not prostrate to anybody even if you're the king,so for over 20years my ear still dh hear insults whenever I refuse to prostrate.

Eating meat last in a meal is not a Yoruba thing.
It is an African thing lol, and it is mostly because meat is expensive! grin
So it is mostly just a matter of how rich a family is.

It is also a test of patience and will. A child who'll eat his meat first is likely to engage in malfeasance, at least that is the general thinking. It shows that the child is impatient and has zero chill and disregard for established order.

Asides the name thing, most other cultures in Nigeria practice the others.

Yoruba have good culture. But the painful part of it is the Yorubas will loss all their cultures in years to come. Imagine A Yoruba Son born and brought up in Yoruba land cant speak Yoruba again. Our Language is dying.

Most of my friends back in skull(varsity) then can talk and preach with Yoruba dialect, See the level of their standard in the Language, yet these guys Graduated with First class degree. eg Ganiyu in Math, Kafayat in Chemical, Abdul in Chem eng and Taiwo. Most had strong 2.1.

Mothers of nowadays saying, combining Yoruba with English will ruin your Child?? .... The problem is 90% lie with our women/wives

Yorubas are the most well cultured tribe in Nigeria, no doubt. Most of the things listed by the poster point towards respect. I am proud to be an Oduduwa descendant.

Don't call your sister/brother by their name

For the Yorubas, even if the age difference is just a year, you must add a prefix like aunt or uncle. It is even more unacceptable if you call someone way older than you by their name. The person will just ignore or be lackadaisical.

Always eat your meat last

We do not know the source of this rule but when dining with a Yoruba family, you should always eat your meat last.

so wen there was no words like aunt or uncle wot do guys use

afonjas can just eat meat without their meal,,, afonjas and meat are like cry cry shocked shocked grin
We use words like Egbon mi

Its beautiful but thats not exclusive to the Yorubas more like an African thing except only the prostrating part. In medieval Igbo times, wives are to be scared of their husbands and must kneel to greet or serve them food until they come of age to become an ''Agadi Nwanyi'' at that stage they are even free to have a say in the community but before that they are wholly under their husbands
