Feminist is relevant to the extent of the laws of Nigeria. The laws of Nigeria, despite it's medieval outlook is pretty fair to women. For instance, women can do just about anything a man can do. However, the problem has never been the absent of laws but the implementation.

I was discussing with some men yesterday and they were gisting a pastor story about how his feminist wife is controlling him up to the extent that she influenced the man to steal from church purse. Though I can't conclude if the story is true but Nigeria version of feminism is demonic and evil

The law recognises women's right but people are just not as keen to implement in laws such that it favours everyone including women.

Even in the developed nations there's almost a thing line between misandry and feminism these days .

But is feminism relevant in Nigeria today ?
Yes, In the north where we have child marriages , where little girls are forced to get married to old men without education. A real feminist movement could end this.

But that isn't what Nigerian feminism is all about (everything is mostly online sef ) the only thing Nigerian feminist would argue about is silly issues on twitter : 'wife not cook' , ' wife not slave ' ' transport fare ' and other silly topics .

I believe in raising boys and girls equally , learning the basic things needed to become meaning adult ( cooking , cleaning, how to make money etc) but I will never support feminism . At least not the Nigerian 'brand' of feminism where Toto dikeh , mercy Aigbe and co tag themselves as feminist .

Even in the developed world sef there are too many brands of feminism.

I do not know where you reside and conditions there, but I tell you Nigerian women (that I know and observe) are contributing to their households. Then again, how many Nigerian men are willing to marry such a woman who contributes to the household while knowing her rights?

Today's economy demands both gender contribute to the family's expenses. Nigerian women know it. Question is: How many men are ready to live with the changes such contributions bring?


P.S. Such women will not "tolerate" same treatment meted on their grandmothers and mothers. Things have to change and they have.

I think it's when a woman loves herself unconditionally and hopes to create a better society for her daughters that she'll champion the cause for equality of sexes. Not the other way around.

If you people actually appreciate who you are, you will never believe the Feminism stuffs. I have sisters and I wont want them languishing in the background of the society. Gender disparity is about responsibilities and roles, which we expected everyone to embrace his/her own role, but the moment someone somewhere is not happy about who they are naturally are, the rest is Wahala!

To me, feminism is much more complicated in marriage. In marriage, there can never be two equals, there has to be a leader.
Evolution and cultural influence has made a man assume that role naturally and willed women to take the back seat. If both parties reach a conclusion on how to run their homes and decides on who does which chores and how collective money is spent, I think society(me and you) owes it to them to stay outta their buisness and leave them to manage their own life.

In other words, it is not compulsory the woman performs all the chores. . The couple can decide what they want.
