It has been for some years now hearing Aliko Dangote here and there........has Nigeria never produced a world class rich man before?
My question goes thus::: WHO IS THE RICHEST MAN IN NIGERIA BEFORE DANGOTE?

I believe this will educate us and my fellow Nairalanders

Harry Akande who fell off by entering politics,they just collected all his money and he was almost crying in 2003 and that's why Dangote doesn't want to go into politics,Nigeria is not America where Donald Trump's massive wealth remains intact even after becoming president,Harry Akande's son is now married to Dakore Egbuson,Harry Akande used to supply 24/7 electricity to the whole District his mother's mansion he built for her is in Ibadan.
His excellency Oluwo Deinde Fernandez,he used to water his farm with helicopters,he was also a grandmaster of Ogboni confraternity till his death,he had yacht,island in USA and was involved in one of the biggest divorce settlement ever in UK.
MKO Abiola in the 90's,MKO was ruined by politics,Abacha destroyed his wealth and made sure he turn him to a poor man before he dies.

Isiaku Rabiu also,Isiaku Rabiu is into oil and gas and other businesses and stupendously rich,now in his 90's and his son is one of the richest men in Nigeria today. Isiaku has many trucks also for haulage,there was a time he built about 57 duplexes with furniture's,and everything and started renting to people but people started complaining and packing out because they were hearing strange sounds of ghosts and babies crying in the midnight and Isiaku Rabiu was accused of being a ritualist. the estate is still in the north with nobody living in any of the mansions

Bashir Tofa is richer than isiaka rabiu. His Son has private jet for himself n everything in it was designed to his taste. Plus a chain of businesses across the globe. Even his d magnificent structure that his been building in kano for some years is estimated to have cost more than a billion naira

that doesn't mean anything,Am Waleed has better jet than Bill Gates and Bill Gates is way richer. Hushpuppi has wore a 110million wrist watch but I doubt if Dandote has a watch that expensive and Damgote is richer

I have been around for a while. Richest man in Nigeria has largely been based on people's perception and it may not be necessarily accurate until we got to the era of technology when the world became global village and it became more easier to track people's wealth. However from 1960 till date, these people have been respectively believed to be the richest by a large number of Nigerians.

*Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu (Emeka Ojukwu's father)
*Mobolaji Bank-Anthony
*Moshood K. Abiola
*Alhaji Aliko Dangote

There's no point criticizing this list. I am not saying it is 100% accurate but if you ask around, it is popular enough to be considered.

How do we measure riches. How do we know who is the richest among men of higher caliber in the world of business?

It is difficult to say when Dangote emerged as Nigeria's richest man. There were many pretenders and noisemakers who did not really have solid investments unlike Dangote who has virtually all his wealth in factories spread across 14 countries and still counting.He is also now venturing into oil refinery. Believe it or not, the man himself says he doesn't save cash - he keeps investing in solid assets. These investments will continue to grow almost indefinitely and the name Dangote may never disappear from world's billionaires list.
