Icon4s: If I remember correctly we were 1 nil up, Yekini scored the opening goal quite early. Ivory Coast being reigning African champions were fired up by that goal and also the comments made by Westerhoff on BBC that the super eagles had the best attack on the continent so they went all out attack! We then beat the offside trap against the run off play siasia was through on goal with just the goal keeper to beat, he also had yekini next to him who was also unmarked but he went for goal and missed. The public opinion was had he squared the ball to Yekini we would have gone 2 nil up away from home against the African champions and we would have gone on to win the game. The public anger was made even worse when we ended up losing the game. Our midfield completely collapsed in the second half, I don't remember us crossing the half way line at all. Phillipe Troussier the Ivory Coast manager in the post match interview said he thought we were playing 9-0-1 formation in the second half. We deserved to lose. But siasia was made the scape goat and public enemy no. 1. Time flies I was 13 yrs old and I remember that game like yesterday. 2 Likes |

I want to say I am surprised by the way some people on this thread reason, but I won't say that because I am not. First of all, they could win us...on both legs? No....on one? Yes. Could we win them? Yes, so I don't know why you people are being pessimistic. Haba! You think the Camrroonians didn't see our list and think similarly? Was the Algerian list as at last year not more intimidating? The way some of us seem to have lost faith in these boys is disturbing. Hian! I can't even talk too much about it because it's even annoying me as I'm reading some posts here.....lemme move on.... Some others think some players are living in past glory (I won't address the uncle that mentioned Mikel), while the likes of Musa and M.Simon and indeed Akpeyi, may not be names many of us want to see on the list, we must realise that the game at hand determines the invitees. You cannot call up four to five new players for a crunch match like this. It is not possible. You call up the guys who have bonded over the span of at least four matches. Musa and Simon have solid experience with this team, so they will trump other fringe players for this game, it's a given. It is foolhardy to think that the likes of Onyekuru will be called up to play Cameroon when they haved not built any on field chemistry with anybody else. Like someone said, these players will be phased out with time, I do not expect to see either of these guys in our NT come next year, however, they are a necessary evil for now. So, just suck it up and hope for the best..... And stop berating our players, they are just as good as the Cameroonians. 3 Likes |

safarigirl: If Nigeria qualifies for next year's world cup, expect Akpeyi and Musa to be part of the team. I reckon that it will be only injury that would prevent both players from making the trip to Russia. If Ikeme recovers from leukemia before the world cup, he will be part of the final 23 to Russia too. Something tells me that Rohr won't discard Akpeyi just like that. |

PDPGuy:Akpeyi? Maybe (a big one at that), Musa? Except he has some career resuscitation, no. This is not one of those Siasia kain coaches that you know his boys, we can risk a useless goalie as second choice, but we cannot risk a useless outfield player for the WC....i do not see Musa retaining anything in the face of contest from the likes of Onyekuru and any other player who may decide they want to rep Nigeria. One year is a long time to find replacements that will blend with the team At this point, only Mikel, V.Moses and Onazi may make it to Russia 2018 from that 2014 batch |

PDPGuy:Rohr has categorically “stated” that Enyeama will be returning to the team before the world cup and he would have probably made the squad for the Cameroonian tie if not of the injury he suffered and just recuperated from. Reports also depicts that he has agreed to cede capitancy to mikel. so for now, I see no justifiable reason if Enyeama and Ikeme are included in the world cup squad along with Akpeyi should in case Nigeria qualifies by God's grace. 4 Likes |

Mickael2:personally I like onazi he brings a lotof passion and team bonding to the super eagles but his football has been poor of late. However I don't this his days in the national team are necessarily over. I feel a move to a better league and reinvention of his game will help him get back to his best form. Moses Simon I don't think he's that bad I personally like everything about his game as a winger just needs to work on his decision making. Musa yes he can be infuriating and is the one most likely to lose his place but I'm not completely ruling him out because sometimes when I think he is finished he pops up and does something special for the national team 1 Like |

bossto:Good to see Iheanacho as SS/AM. He can cause a lot of damages to the Cameroonian defense with his penetrative and pinpoint passes. And with Ighalo in front of him, that will create spaces for him to poach and deliver lethal strikes as defenders will be more concentrated on trying to contain Ighalo. 1 Like 1 Share |

Rohr Excited As Ighalo Hits Eagles Abuja Camp; Mikel, Akpeyi To Arrive On Saturday, Iwobi On Monday By Richard Jideaka, Abuja: Changchun Yatai of China striker, Odion Ighalo, is the first player to arrive at the camp of the Super Eagles in Abuja on Friday ahead of the first of their two legged 2018 World Cup qualifiers against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on September 1 in Uyo. Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr who revealed this to Completesportsnigeria.com Friday in Abuja said he would start a training session with Ighalo and FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who is also expected to be in camp later in the the day (Friday) Rohr also divulged that skipper Mikel Obi and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi are expected to arrive the Abuja camp on Saturday while majority of the other players will arrive on Sunday. “Alex Iwobi is expected to fly in on Monday after a late game on Sunday before the team departs Abuja to Uyo. I have words from all the players, that they will arrive on schedule. It is straight to business, ” Rohr stated https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/rohr-excited-ighalo-hits-eagles-abuja-came-mikel-akpeyi-arrive-saturday-iwobi-monday/ I feel Ighalo is a must on a super eagle camp list because he is the ultimate professional and our younger one's will learn a great deal from him on and off the field. |

mumemma:with God, nothing sha be impossible. I have come to observe that Nigeria have lost many matches that they boasted that they can comfortably beat their opponents. For example, Rohr didn't boast when Nigeria was to take on Algeria, and Nigeria won that game, but the moment Rohr boasted that Nigeria will win match against South Africa “in honor of late Stephen Keshi,” that was when Nigeria lost the match. The truth is that God helps us when we admit weakness, because that is when He can fully take the glory. |

Based on past glory theory some players should not be on the list. Number one on the list is HENRY ONYEKURU. Zero goal, zero assist and *cough*that's it. Number two on the list is KELECHI IHEANACHO... Zero goal, zero assist and 8 minutes of game time. Chisos! While Ahmed Musa don score for the only match he played and Moses Simon has done nothing special as Henry though he has more game time than Onyekuru yet some people want them out just because of ONYEKURU. Can Onyekuru play free kick better than Simon Moses? can Onyekuru play SS, RM, AM, LM & CF better than Moses Simon? OK, Taiwo Awoniyi has scored 1 goal and assisted twice in 3 matches, why is he not mentioned or called? Is this not present glory? Based on Rohr claims of lack of game time one player ought not to be in the team.. Kelechi Iheanacho...... Why did Rohr exclude Kayode Olanrewaju? Mafians ruling the national team as a cult. I guess. |

goldfish80: This would be massive. It would definitely do a lot for the reputation of the Turkish league which some might erroneously call a semi retirement league. Alex would get certain playing time and basically have the chance to be "the man" on his own team. Although for some reason I don't believe this will be the only offer he gets, this might just be the opening of the flood gates. |
