Do a Google search for SEC postpones Oando's AGM. The AGM was initially slated for 2nd August but was postponed to September because SEC investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation SEC postponed it till further notice.

Check proshare the news is less than 12 hours now. I shared the information about 1 hour after proshare posted it.

Please can someone explain to me why the earning of GTB/Stanbic bank with their current price has a big difference when compared with Zenith, Access and UBA.

The first is high in their stock price but small in its earning, while the later are small in their price but high in their earning when compare with the price of GTB/ Stanbic .

Please I need an explanation.

I hope one can rightly say that the first set are in their fair price region, while the others are in their undervalued region.

Fundamentals is not about eps only.
There are other variables that investors look for in a company.
What places Gtb above Other banks is their efficiency.
Check out return on equity, return on assets, cost to income ratio, interest expenses and so on and so forth.

I did a comparative analysis of the five big banks and what I found was very revealing. Here is one of what I found :
Gtb has the lowest personnel expenses among the group, about half of the other. Gtb 16.36b: access 27.74b: uba 33.95b: zenith 36.21b: fbn 42.0b as at H1 and yet gtb has the highest PAT.

And one other thing that is going for them is their consistency. They have built a reputation over time and this has generated a positive sentiment for them.

In my own opinion, the premium is justified and this will likely continue for many more years.
There is no point arguing with Mr market on pricing, the best approach is to align ourselves with the direction that Mr market provides.

Mkt Sentiment and investor perception of a coy makes the difference.

It's about the ROE(Return on Equity). The market places very high premium on stocks that have high ROE(relative to the peers). Nestle and Gtb are clear examples. Those 2 stocks have commanded higher prices since FOREVER.
I believe that GTB has higher Return on Equity with a little percent ahead of Zenith, Access and UBA when calculating with EPS, But GTB current price per a share is very high when compared with other 3 banks, almost times two.

That's why I personal view both GTB as been in their fair price region, while the other three banks are still at their undervalue region.

Then I can also view Nestle and Stanbic as been overvalued.

2017 Half year EPS
1. GTB 2.96
2. Zenith 2.40
3. Access 1.38
4. UBA 1.21

Current price of UBA and Access times 3 is not up to the current price of GTB and Stanbic bank, while their EPS time 3 are far above GTB and Stanbic. I thought their earning capacity determine a companies fundamentals.

1. GTB #40.40 (EPS 2.96)
2. Stanbic #40 ( not upto GTB)
3. Zenith #23.10 ( EPS 2.40) (23.10 x 1.749 = 40.4019) (EPS 2.40 X 1.749 = 4.1976)
4. Access #10.15 ( EPS 1.38) (10.15 X 3.98 = 40.397) (EPS 1.38 X 3.98 = 5.494)
5. UBA #9.70 (EPS 1.21) (9.70 X 4.165 = 40.4005) (EPS 1.21 X 4.165 = 5.03965)

With 4.04 million naira one can buy as follow;
1. GTB 100,000 Units of share
2. Zenith, about 174,900 units of share
3. Access 398,000 units of share
4. UBA, about 416,500 units of share

Then goes by their current interim dividend, let's judge with their current closing price
1. GTB .30X 100,000 = #30,000
2. Zenith .25x 174900 = #43,725
3. Access .25 x 398,000 = #99500
4. UBA .20 X 416,500 = #83,300

My question here is, which of them gave the investor the highest Earning Return, in his or her invested #4.04 million?

Are you a lawyer these questions are many. It is not right to use wthe interim dividend paid to judge.

GTB paid a total dividend of N2 last year, Zenith N2.02, Access N0.60, UBA N0.75

OK, if they repeat the payment of last year based on their current price

1. GTB (1.75 + .25 interim = 2) 2 X 100,000 = #200,000
2. Zenith (1.77 + .25 interim = 2.02 ) 2.02 x 174,900 = #353,298
3. Access (.40 + .25 interim = .65) .65 x 398,000 = #258700
4. UBA (.55 + .20 interim = .75) .75 X 416,500 = #312,375

I am impressed with the way you are playing around numbers to analyse and understand the basis for current pricing of the banks shares...This is part of what is expected of an investor.

On the strength of your analysis, investing N4m seems better in UBA than others because it produced the highest dividend income... However, you and I know it's not sufficient to price their shares solely on this. There are other non-quantitative factors considered by investors chief among which is management efficiency in creating earnings at minimal cost and quality of corporate governance. GTB possess these two qualities. That is why it's regarded as a premium stock and the likes of zenith et al will continue to trail it.

In every stock pricing, risk assessment is also involved. Risk assessment of the above named stock differs which also reflects in its prices. What will you say of stanbic if you must only calculate as above?

The best approach is to define our investment objectives.
In terms of dividend yield and p/e, gtb is definitely lagging behind.
I personally like companies with high dividend yield and low p/e but the point is there are others out there who would look at some other variables in picking stocks.
Whatever works best for us, we should stick with it.

We shall get the true picture before next week . The petition that led to SEC investigation was written by 2 big time foreign investors.

The Mafia can do anything to cover their tracks. I wrote an article about Oando in 2012 to SEC, NSE , all the media houses in Nigeria including Sahara reporters and Proshare but non of them published it except stockmarketnigeria and nairaland. Because the media houses don't want to lose juicy adverts from Oando.
You can google" corporate mis-governance and management recklessness" by Emmanuel EWUMI.
By November 2012 I sold all my Oando's share of almost 250k units for between N21 and N24.

I was with a 72 years investor yesterday. The man has over 40yrs experience in the stock market. He said he would rather invest in a bad company that has good managers than in a good company that has bad managers.

Oando was a good company prior to 2001 or in the days of Unipetrol.

Sooner than later bad managers will turn a good company to a bad one.

We all know what bad managers did to Cadbury, Unilever, Union Bank, Unipetrol now known as Oando. In the case of Cadbury and Unilever more than 8 years after the bad managers the companies are yet to fully recover.
