sinkhole: Mate and xfce are fine. I wouldn't recommend Cinnamon or KDE on that type of laptop, speaking from experience. AMD E-series CPUs are not particularly powerful. Xfce is the safest, but I think Mate is ok too |

Gargoylesmiles:WAO, WAO, sincerely, I think I just have to say thank you guys for exposing me to this linux thing! Imaging, I am only using ordinary Xfce o and I am already feeling like I have been wasting my life with Microsoft windows Currently, I have installed Chrome for my browsing (I could get some synchronization with it); I have installed arduino IDE, using "sudo apt-get installed", the only thing I have not being abe to do so far is the configuration of my printer (I am sure I will soon get over that too). Thanks guys, I am really grateful. |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 5:53pm On Aug 01, 2017 |
sinkhole: HP Printer? USB port? That should be straightforward too, just plugin the printer and it should be detected. I can't guarantee if it's not hp USB though |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by sinkhole: 11:32pm On Aug 02, 2017 |
blackweaver:Thanks my guy. I actually got it to see one HP printer but unfortunately the documents I sent will not just print; I kept getting one funny error message like that The Samsung printer I tried to connect was not even recognized at all |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 3:02pm On Aug 03, 2017 |
sinkhole: What's the error message? Are you sure the problem isn't with the printer? |

Gargoylesmiles:Bro, please I would like to dual boot windows and Ubuntu. Which Ubuntu do you think I should install in a 2gb ram, 32bit, 1.4ghz laptop? I want to use it permanently. Thanks. |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 1:14pm On Aug 22, 2017 |
Romeo386: 2gb ram? Use xubuntu or lubuntu - they're the most lightweight ubuntu versions (or use linux mint xfce/ linux mint lxde) |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by Romeo386: 12:08am On Aug 23, 2017 |

sinkhole:Bro how did you create the partition? The guy in the video, created the partition during installation. Please share your experience with the Linux mint xfce with me. Thanks. N.B Would I be able to access music, videos and other files in the other partition? (windows partition) |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by sinkhole: 8:05am On Aug 26, 2017 |
Romeo386:Chaiiii, I be bad teacher for this thing oh! Sincerely, anytime I get problem I just type am for google and "bam" the solution go just come and I go just apply them continue, I know fit remember again I remember I did partition and even the partition on the computer I bought was not even compartible with linux mint installation, but I am telling you, google has answer to almost everything in this world |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 11:01am On Aug 26, 2017 |
Romeo386: Use gparted to create the partition, i believe the installer should come with gparted. Also, you WILL be able to access your music and files on your windows partition. If you can't, you probably didn't shutdown windows properly and will need to reboot to windows and shutdown/reboot. Hibernating won't work i'm afraid |

Re: Ubuntu Linux by Romeo386: 12:01pm On Aug 28, 2017 |
Gargoylesmiles:Does the installation require connection? What is the extention of the apps used in the Linux mint xface? (like ".exe" in windows) What are the apps to download after the installation? Are there sites where I can download Linux mint xface apps (data is not smiling so I don't use my laptop to browse, I use my phone to download apps) I will install KDE, what do you think? Thanks. |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 1:29pm On Aug 28, 2017 |
Romeo386: You don't need internet connection to install, though you might want to use it to enable mp3 support. Alternatively you can install and later download the packages for mp3 support, although mint xfce comes with vlc which can play mp3 files without need to download other files. You can download linux mint apps using synaptic package manager. It's sort of like an app store. Mint is based on ubuntu which is based on debian, the program extension is .deb. If you want to install kde, you better be using wifi or have a lot of data. While linux mint comes with libreoffice, you might want to use wps office instead http://wps-community.org/downloads it's more like microsoft office. 1 Like |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by Romeo386: 4:28pm On Aug 28, 2017 |
blackweaver:Thanks for the prompt response. If I have like 2gb of data tethering from my phone, will it be enough to install the KDE? The synaptic package manager, is for pc abi? Should I format my flash before I burn the ISO to it? What is the size of the partition I should use? And finally, should I create the partition before before installing it or during the installation? I don't want to make mistakes Bro, am a novice. Thanks a lot. God bless you. |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by sinkhole: 4:38pm On Aug 28, 2017 |
blackweaver:Thanks for the wps, I just downloaded it and it is great, it feels just like microsoft office. Thanks |
