RaeMystix: lonelyhrt while its good to be suppoortive it also important to be realistic..... 1.75 gpa out of 5 , there is no need spending money on WES for that transcript.....check online calculator and see what it converts to in 4.0 before you spend any money ....if its less than 2.0 it will almost be impossible to get any admission with that. ......i see the only remedy is to start a fresh without using that transcript no amount of play or unseriousness should result in that gpa score if you want to demostrate you are academically inclined for a next phase . 4 Likes |

phawwaz: First of all congratulations. Second, you were simply lucky. The denial rate for CCs is much higher than for regular universities. Nobody ever said it was impossible but rather you have way slimmer chances, which you just confirmed in your closing statement in bold. So why the extra emphasis on that? You were just lucky, and the course you are going for also may have helped (nursing is in great demand here in the US). So thank your lucky stars, prepare for your travel and hopefully we will see you soon here! |

Sharles: I am an alumnus of UMD myself, and I finished my masters program in December 2015. UMD is really a good school to be in and an admission from UMD is at least 95% assurance of getting your visa. Hardly are UMD students denied their visas. The UMD graduate school offers two types of engineering masters programs: thesis based (very competitive, requires GRE scores etc. and is for those intending to proceed on to PhD) and non-thesis based (offered by the Office of Advanced Engineering Education, GRE is waived, TOEFL waived for Nigerian students, not as competitive and for those intending to proceed on to the job market upon graduation who do not need to be saddled with the heavy burden of research work). However, be aware that the tuition fee for Engineering programs offered by OAE is about $9,300 per semester (which is also the same for both international students and citizens) and anybody intending on attending UMD needs to have at least one semester's tuition ready before they come in. The non-thesis based masters programs offer no graduate assistantships, although you can apply for other GA positions at https://ejobs.umd.edu Also, coming in Spring, as against Fall, will probably be better as you have only the spring semester (January to May) to pay through before the 3 months summer vacation (June to August) comes to be able to sort out yourself financially for the following semester. Cost of renting a place around UMD - in College park, Adelphi, Hyattsville, Greenbelt etc. is sort of above average (around $500 per month on average) and you should be ready to take care of that too, except you have someone to house you for a couple of months till you are ready to get your own place. In all, I encourage those interested in UMD to apply. Nigerian students make up majority of the black graduate students in UMD and also the majority of the greater african students studying here. Also, the number of Nigerians living in Maryland especially (PG county) is enormous that hardly a day goes by would you not meet someone speaking Igbo or Yoruba. Maryland is home to plenty Nigerians and is a little home away from the greater home (Nigeria) for incomers. For those looking for very good but yet affordable schools to study at, I strongly recommend University of Texas El Paso and University of Texas Tyler. Goodluck. 24 Likes 3 Shares |

lonelyhrt: How old are you? Are you over 25? If no I would have recommended going for another bachelors degree (applying to both a community college and a university, obtaining your visa with the university and transferring to the CC upon entry into the US and starting school there), however one's chances of getting the US student visa for an undergraduate student over 22/23 are slimmer. If you were to go for a graduate program, then your best bet would be to convert your transcript using WES (the most favorable conversion tool ever). Someone I know recently converted and his GPA on the Nigerian scale is 1.99/5.0, which came out to be approximately 2.6/4.0, thus making him eligible to apply to US schools with 2.5/4.0 minimum GPA requirement, schools such as Bowie State University, Morgan State University, etc. Your 1.75/5.0 may come out to be at around 2.5/4.0 but you can be sure if you use WES conversion tool online to confirm that and if it does reach 2.5/4.0 then thank your lucky stars that you do have a chance at graduate studies here in the US. You need to have a copy of your transcript for this. I strongly recommend taking the GRE exam to boost your academic profile as your very low GPA isn't helping you at all. Goodluck. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Gospelozy: Everything you need is on this thread. Oya take this: @femi312 gave us this: There is this saying that says ''If we don't fight we have failed, but if we fight we can either fail or succeed''. So forget the tuition part for now and put in some work. First, you need to decide on the course you want to study, To save you some stress start from this website http://graddecision.org/ to know the application process, So step 1) Decide on the course you want to study 2) Search for schools using a)www.msinus.com (open this website with a laptop, you should see a list of school and ranking for some of the most common courses, you can start from there b)www.gradschools.com c)www.google.com (you can just type 'msc in bla bla in the us in google' d) www.usnews.com e) www.4icu.org . 3) check up the website of the schools you find, to see the requirements. most schools will require GRE and some will require both gre and toefl . 4) Register for standardize exam and take it. You can register for gre as soon as you are ready and prepared to take the exam. Its done online at www.ets.org. You can also get all the information you need about the exam on the website. You will get adequate materials to prepare for the exam in this dropbox I created https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t9ot6d07hp1lkm7/AADL_dTihjEvNBRCBsmAcoXja?dl=0 TOEFL is an English test required by some US universities. though, some schools waive due to the fact that Nigeria is an Anglophone country. For toefl, all you need are the speaking noteful videos in the link below, the ets toefl guide is enough to ace the exam for other sections. Just download the toefl ETS Guide from there website and the simulation test. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/45tvc3ifi8wh8sh/AACXR5j6l3nsWK8vZx5P28TVa?dl=0 As for the Tuition, if you have good results (GRE, GPA, Toefl), SOP and LOR; US schools do offer assistanship to graduate students. This can either be Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Administrative Assistant. Depending on the school, if you get an assistantship, your Tuition will be waived and you will also be paid a monthly stipend that can take care of your living expenses. One advice, once you shortlist schools, send emails to the grad cord of the schools and ask specific questions relating to that course and funding opportunities, be very explicit. Lastly, there are basically 2 admission session in the US, Spring (Jan) and Fall (August). Schools admit more students in Fall, so Its advisable you plan towards Fall 2018. If you plan to resume in fall 2018, make sure you submit all your application documents before ending of Dec 2017. If you don't give it a trial, you will never know.My philosophy in life is to always do my part, with that I don't get to regret later. Above all, if you believe in God,pray to him..if not, good for you. If you have any question, drop it here and you should get more than one good answer. 3 Likes |

Walspring: A big special thanks to all the benevolent men and women for this promo offer, prayer is that the Almighty God in his infinite mercy and blessing will continue to enlarge your coast because the promo is for just 10 slots, then it moved to 20, from 20 it was catapulted to 33 then someone added 2 to make it 35. We can see how it was enlarged. Another 15 offer on ground but it will be for next edition if Jesus tarry in his coming with a new terms and conditions to avoid misuse of this opportunity. A big thank you to all those who benefited from it one way or the other and posted it here and to those who didn't post it due to their busy schedules or shyness, We all wish you success in the exam.. To all those who sent me message via back door through someone and i didn't attend to or replied that i won't attend to them, please don't be offended because i need to justify the vision, mission and purpose why this offer was established by these benevolent people and am sorry big time. Lastly to those who are going to send in their cash please have us in mind and do so. God will bless us all.. Amen! 5 Likes |
