Why Indomitable Lions Will Beat Super Eagles In Uyo – Cameroonian Journalist

 0 August 31, 2017 4:47 am

By Kayode Ogundare (pix: Ganiyu Yusuf) in Uyo:

A Cameroonian journalist Wiliam Tchango has run the rule over Nigeria’s Super Eagles as well as the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and is of the opinion that the Lions have a slight edge over their Nigerian counterparts.

In an exclusive chat with completesportsnigeria.com in Uyo, Tchango reckons that the Nigeria is blessed with a lot of quality players but that Cameroon has a better team and therefore are likely going to carry the day.

“Nigeria have world class players like Victor Moses, Mikel Obi, Alex Iwobi and the midfielder in Leicester City (Wilfred Ndidi). So many players you have with very good quality. But Cameroun are stronger as a team. They will come here hoping to surprise your team in front of your fans. We won the AFCON with average players but they have matured into a good team. They have a point to prove to Africans that they deserve to be African champions and they will do that by qualifying for the World Cup,” the staff of www.cameroon-info.net said on Wednesday.

Tchango also claimed that Nigeria will be lucky to get a draw because the Lions have had more time together as a team and are likely going to be more cohesive.

He continued: “I think it will be a very interesting match. It is important for both teams because Nigeria, as the group leaders want to win so they can maintain their lead while Cameroon also want to win so that they can cut the lead down to one point before the return leg. Cameroon will come with the motive of winning the game even though they know it will be a difficult game.”

Finally, he predicted that Cameroon’s worst result in Uyo will be a draw because of their technical superiority.

“I predict that if Nigeria plays well enough they can get a point from the game. I think Cameroun’s worst result from this game will be a draw. I expect us to win outrightly,” he said.

Both sides are scheduled to meet again in the reverse fixture on the 4th of September in Yaounde.

I think dat is the best thing to do next in order to lure the good ones to play for us and I believe that our qualication to the world cup will almost play a major part in tempting them to play for us.

Recently, Onomah is doing wonders in his club and if he continues, o boi the boy become another Dele Alli.

He's too good to be ignored.

Honestly, Onomah can bench Etebor or Alex Iwobi in the AMF role. You can take that to the bank. grin

We need to approach Ademola-lookman now before it's too late.

I hope Abraham soft pedal in his goal pursuit else England will cast their covetous preying eyes on him. grin

Once, we get any of these players that won the U20 World Cup then I am definitely sure Dominic Solanke will realise he is the only one dreaming of England golden era. grin

Tega is improving day by day his movements and reading of the game is on an upward spiral. Even his link up play is very intelligent for one so young.

I will be honest I really didn't think he could get this good so quick. I have been watching him since he was 15/16 then consider his age, a teenager. If he scores 20 goals at the end of the season his value will hit the range of over £50million.

Sometimes, I just wonder what could be the ultimate goal of our footballing administrators.

Is it winning the world cup or just chop I chop that they become so blind so tey all the better players dey allude us?

For our very eyes David Alaba, Dennis Aogo, Ross Barkley, Adebayo, Dele Alli, Angelo Ogbonna and recently Manual Akanji waka commot for our very eyes. Why?

If we put some of these boys on our current list, no bi to dey dream World cup trophy? grin

Now, very soon we go lose Dominic Solanke, Josh Onomah, Abraham, Jordan Torunarigha, Uduokhai Felix, Ademola-lookman Sheyi Ojo etcetera because dem no pay rite to any chop I chop fellow.

These boys are very very good but our Oga at the top thinks otherwise.

I am not saying we we should trow-way all our boys but haba these boys are good. grin

Anyway, make we face Cameroon first before I begin yan as usual. grin

He was in Hearts in Scottish premiership played a few games was so bad the benched him for a year. Then released him with a year left on his contract this year. I am dumbfounded as he is supposedly only 24 at least officially.

I know because I followed his progress with Heart but unfortunately the fans don't like him.

I think he went to a wrong club because he was doing his previous club before he came to Hearts.

Maybe age has caught up with him?

Daniel Amokachi could have been quoted out of context. Let's not forget he was an assistant to the late Stephen Keshi, who I personally suspected of underhand deals. Did Aluko pay to get his first call up? Has Aluko remained in the limelight all this while? we can only have 23 men or so in SE at every point in time. It's hard to set ONE standard as regards who should be in the team. Coaches have different standards. I remember Oliseh's policy of no out field players who do not play in the first tier. Let's not try to make it seem like it's solely an NFF issue. The coaches we've had over the years have fought to act without interferences from the NFF. Corruption is part of our system. But the problem we have here is that we do not have many players playing in big clubs in Europe -- indisputable stars -- so there are many grey areas when our coaches make decisions. Anyone can in fact feel hard done by.. need I mention free agent Nosa Igiebor?

What we have here is a country where everyone feels marginalized and can give you examples to buttress their claim.

Stephen Keshi was pressured and forced to invite Aluko to the national team team after his sublime performance for Rangers week in week out, and when he eventually brought em, he didn't deem it fit to dress him for the match day game, instead, he played Uzoenyi and kept Oduamadi on the bench. grin

In short, he never wanted Aluko in the team when you see Keshi's antics at play. grin

Which of these two was ever in limelight, not to talk of remain in limelight? shocked grin

Den I was just monitoring his kurukere moves with one corner of my eyes. grin

Nigeria Vs Cameroon Preview : Moses & Iheanacho Key, Aboubakar Exposed, Strengths &Weaknesses

Back in November 2016, Indomitable Lions of Cameroon’s coach Hugo Broos had said it was hard to find any weakness in Super Eagles.
The Eagles had just defeated Zambia 2-1in Ndola and Algeria 3-1 in Uyo, their first two games of the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier and were poised to take on Cameroon who were in the same group B but were yet to pick a win, with two draws from their opening two games.

Hugo Broos had told reporters that he was lucky his team would not be facing the Super Eagles until eight months later.

''They (Super Eagles) are on a high, hard to find any weakness in them at the moment, maybe we are lucky because we don’t play them until next year.

''Hopefully we would have built up confidence to explore any weakness,'' he said.

Between November 2016 and August 2017 Cameroon played 13 games while Nigeria only played just four matches.

During this period, Cameroon also emerged Africa champions having defeated teams like Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Egypt on their way to winning their fifth AFCON title in Gabon 2017.

As African champions, they represented the continent at the FIFA Confederations cup where they drew 1-1 with Australia, lost 2-0 to Chile and also lost 3-1 to world champions Germany to crash out at the group stage.

The Super Eagles on the other hand drew 1-1 with both Corsica and Senegal, beat Togo 3-0 all in friendly games and lost 2-0 at home to South Africa in a 2019 AFCON qualifying game.

Buoyed by his team’s progress in eight months, Broos now has a new message for his 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier opponent.

''We won the AFCON trophy in style beating teams like Senegal, Ghana and Egypt in the final.

''Considering the pedigree of the teams I mentioned earlier are either better or same as Nigeria, it’s normal that if we can beat them in a tense situation like at the Cup of Nations, we should also be confident we can beat Nigeria''.

The Cameroonians are known for their robust kind of game, offer a lot in terms of physical strength and are more of a defensive unit than an attacking force.

Defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui was the top scorer for Cameroon when they won the AFCON in January, he scored two of the team's seven goals in Gabon.

Since the cup of nations triumph, Cameroon have managed just five goals in seven games with FC Porto forward Vincent Aboubakar responsible for three of the goals.

Aboubakar’s attributes as listed byWhoscored.com include; ''likes to play long balls, likes to cut inside, likes to do layoffs, likes to dribble, indirect set-piece threat.''

Aboubakar is a beast when allowed to run at goal one-on-one with a defender, his pace and ability to shrug off defenders stands him out against teams like the Super Eagles of Nigeria who are not comfortable playing against physically demanding opponents.

His goal in their 1-0 win over Morocco about a month ago is a typical example of the threat he poses when given the chance to make a dash at goal.

So far this season Aboubakar has registered four goals in four games for FC Porto.

He is likely to be flanked by Christian Bassogog and Benjamin Moukandjo who both play in China.

Both are not good ball handlers but have blistering pace that could trouble Shehu Abdullahi and Elderson Echiejile who are likely to play the right and left back positions for Nigeria.

Cameroon’s defense is marshaled by Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui of Slavia Prague, and Adolphe Teikeu of Sochaux, both in their late twenties and stand at about 190cm and 189 cm heights respectively.

It will be a futile bid to go into a physical war with the Cameroonian defenders because there can only be a
winner, instead it will be wise for Super Eagles ‘coach Gernot Rohr to play players like Kelechi Iheanacho, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses who can sneak behind defenses undetected.

The presence of John Obi Mikel is very vital in this game, because without him the Eagles struggled to create against South Africa.

The Eagles attackers should also play to earn penalties (Victor Moses our best bet).

I have no doubt that a midfield comprising of Obi Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi can hold their own against Arnaud Djoum, Sebastien Siani and Andre Anguissa but what am not sure of is if William Ekong ,Abdullahi Shehu , Leon Balogun and Elderson Echiejile can afford not to make costly mistakes in the Eagles defense for 90 minutes.

Nigeria top Group B with six points after two matches while Cameroon have just two, with only the group winner qualifying for the World Cup in Russia next year.

Also, no one should celebrate Cameroon’s recent off the field issues because they have shown they can stand tough times.

In January 2017, Cameroon won their fifth Africa Cup of Nations title without seven of their regular players : Liverpool defender Matip, Allan Nyom of West Bromwich, Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, Guy Roland of Nancy, Andre Zambo Anguissa of Marseille, Maxime Poundje of Bordeaux and Ibrahim Amadou of Lille.

Super Eagles, if playing at the FIFA world cup Russia 2018 is not enough motivation for them to beat Cameroon on September 1 in Uyo, how about winning for late Sam Okwaraji or in tribute to Eagles’ first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme who has been diagnosed of acute leukemia.

Austria Wien’s New Signing Alhassan Ibrahim Reveals – I Almost Joined Arsenal

‎Highly rated Austria Wien latest signing Alhassan Ibrahim popularly called Mu’azam has revealed he almost joined Arsenal few years ago when he burst onto the scene with the Nigeria U17 team in 2013.

Mu’azam was the star of the team during their qualifiers, and his fine form particularly in their first Africa Youth Championship qualifiers against Niger Republic where he scored a hattrick caught the attention of Arsenal.

Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, the lanky forward who has two senior national team caps for Nigeria, where he is also an integral member of the B team revealed issues cost him the move.

” I was very close to joining Arsenal in 2013. I met with their scout and we had very good talks but things didn’t work out because of issues outside football”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” One of the issues was my age, I was just 16 then and a move can’t be imminent until I turn 18. I have since put the disappointment behind me. My goal is to do well for Austria Wien.

” So far I have been treated really well, I have little or no choice but to deliver. Hopefully when I start playing games I will put smiles on the faces of my teammates, coaches as well as the fans of the club”.

Ola Aina Happy To Be In Eagles Fold, Seen Mostly With Moses, Roomed With Iheanacho

England youth international Ola Aina is keen to make his debut for the senior national team of Nigeria when they take on Cameroon in the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers on Friday.

Aina has settled down nicely with the players, most of which he is meeting for the first time although he trained with some of them in London during the Super Eagles training camp early this year.

The Chelsea defender who is on loan to Hull City is still waiting to get the official go ahead from FIFA to play for Nigeria against Cameroon, as his application to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria is yet to be ratified by the players committee of FIFA.

He is mostly seen around his Chelsea teammate Victor Moses during trainings and even back in their hotel, although he is presently in the same room with Kelechi Iheanacho in the absence of Iheanacho’s regular room-mate Alex Iwobi.

His initiation also went as plan as the defender who is comfortable as a left full back or right full back proved his knowledge of Nigerian song by rendering Timaya’s street song Malonogede, much to the surprise but delight of his team-mates.

Simon: I Want To Score Against Cameroon Again After My Friendly Match Goal

Super Eagles forward Moses Simon says he hopes to score again against Cameroon ahead of Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo.

Simon scored the Super Eagles’ second goal in a 3-0 friendly win against Cameroon in 2015 in Belgium. The Eagles other scorers were Efe Ambrose and Odion Ighalo.

Looking forward to Friday’s clash, Simon who is expected to feature against Cameroon in Friday’s qualifier however pointed out that the ultimate will be the three points for the Eagles.

“Of course!, if I have the opportunity but the most important thing is about the team getting the maximum three points,” Simon told cafonline.com in an interview when asked if he fancied scoring against the Indomitable Lions again. ‎

He added : “It is not only about me scoring; it is for us to win on Friday in Uyo because that would be good for our aspiration of qualifying for the World Cup.

“Our expectation is to win in order to boost our chances of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia. The most important thing for us as a team is to win and nothing more.”

Simon stated that the quality of players invited for the game against Cameroon gives him so much confidence that Super Eagles will win, but admitted out that they respect them as African champions.

He said: “My confidence comes from the general attitude of the team; as well as our quality as a team and I have so much belief in this team that we can do it.

“We were not at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon when Cameroon won the trophy but we have respect for them as the African champions. We have to give everything that we have when we are going to play against them. We have to play together as a team. I believe we have a very good squad with the calibre of players we have in the team right now.”

And on the return of John Mikel Obi following an injury layoff, Simon said: “We are happy to always have him around because he’s the leader. His presence alone is a great boost to the team and it will motivate us as well. We want the fans to come out to support us to win this important match on Friday. We want to keep our mind and eyes on the match in Uyo. Thereafter, we can talk about the return match in Yaounde. What Nigerians should expect from us on Friday is victory.”

The Eagles go into the qualifiers top of Group B on six points after two games while Cameroon are on two points from the same number of games.

Zambia and Algeria have one point each and are third and fourth respectively.
