TheBlessedMan thanks for updating after a very long time and wlcm back bro. I really waited for this update longer than Buhari's stay in london. I hope we wont have to wait this long for another update.

Well i presume and assume that this is Jide's diary and he is the one narating the incidents buh then from the way everything is being narrated, outlined and explained it looked as if its ur diary. I believe Jide wasnt there when u were toasting Lola for him and obviously he wasnt watching its not possible for him to get every details of ur conversation and actions with Lola as was written down in his diary.

It should have been brief and less descriptive since everything didnt happen in his presence.

Am not criticizing or condeming ur work bro. Its just an observation.

Kudos to u baba... Still following.

>>>FLASHBACK contd..<<<

"urm.....Lola..." Darous cleared his throat as they both stopped beside the road linking to the school gate. This new task from Jide is gradually becoming a more daunting task for him.

Although he had been able to find a cunning way in the past to toast Bukky and Hajarat, two of the most beautiful girls in school and had been dating and dated both respectively since he was 15years old and apparently in SS1, but what he's never really done is to toast on someone else's behalf. He only agreed to do this because he saw how desperate Jide, his friend appeared while asking him to help him out. He couldn't turn him down also knowing how embarrassed Jide always feels whenever the rest of their crews were discussing any girlfriend related issue.

"you shouldn't have treated her that way na...." Said Jide.

"who ask you to put mouth inside this matter?...eh?" Abdullahi retaliated angrily. "look here, always stay on your own Girl-less path and never ever cross to any girl-ful issues like this....you hear?". Abdullahi retorted further at Jide at the end of the drama reheasal that always held at the end of every thursday schooling activities when the latter had bumped into an un-invited conversation going on between Darous and Abdullahi, and had been unable to restrict himself from spitting his own opinion which unfortunately resulted in total embarassment for him. "and if you ever and ever again, put your mouth in my matter again, I swear, I will use this biro..." Abdullahi warned further waving an Eleganza pen at Jide's face. "I will use this biro to shook your face a thousand times that satan will have a hard time recognising you in hell. Idiot." He hissed and rejoined the others while the embarrassed Jide was left standing like someone that thieves had just robbed off his last penny.

Remembering fully well of that incident which happened in his immediate presence was what prompted Darous to subconsciously acceeded to his request in the first place cos turning him down at that moment would have hurt the dude badly. Moreover, this is his friend and yes he has to do this for him.

A FRIEND IN 'need' they reshuffled and added just letters 'i' and 'd' to make IS A FRIEND 'indeed'.

So friendlically and no matter what it takes, even if it means sacrificing his own feelings on the way, Darous feels he has a sense of obligation to do this for the sake of friendship.

Wait! did I just said his own feelings? Oh! My bad. I didn't mean to tell you that fact, atleast not yet. I wouldn't want you to found out just yet that Darous has also been a secret admirer of the elegant beauty standing presently before him. Yes he has feelings for her, the same girl his friend had ask him to help ask out. Complicated isn't it? Yes thats just one of the ironical scenes from the theater book of life.

It all started when providence brought the two of them together when, Darous and Lola were both sitting for the Junior Waec Exams two years earlier and Lola's seat happens to be beside his own based on the alphabetical order the seats were arranged.

Barely minutes after the commencement of the exam had Lola started whispering Darous name. It seems as if Lola had not prepared atall for the exams as she was always calling on the not too brilliant Darous to give her most of the answers to the questions asked. Even asking him for the plural form of 'FART'.

Truth be told, it was the way her pre-breasts always engrossed his vision whenever she calls on him for an answer that initially connected his xender application of reasonings and generousity to her before the exchange of answers began and thanks to the invigilators negligence of duty, the teenage examination malpractice went unnoticed.

Like I said earlier, I didn't mean to tell you that just yet, but I guess thats what happens when you're the one God created just after Basket mouth.

"Lola, you know my friend nao..."

"which one? Abdullahi Olowopere or the tall Uwala Michael?" Lola who was obviously basking in the euphoria of getting the chance to talk with one of the most sort after boys in school asked with a smile just before they stepped outside the school gate.

"no....no...." Darous replied as calmly as he could.

"or Seun, baby onifun(doll with no intestine)?." She asked with another smile trying to prolong the conversation.

"none of the above Lola...its Jide...."

"oh....that idiot...?"

"cut it Lola...thats my best friend you're calling idiot....."

"Sorry....sorry." Lola said with an apologetic look.

"its alright...its ok... Lets just get to the main reason why I wanted to see you...."

"which is..?"

"my friend likes you. He wants you to be his babe and I swear to you on the life of our Maths teacher Lola, you won't regret it...I promise you." Darous stated with a serious look.

"ahahahahah...Gawd...." Lola suprisingly bursted into an uncontrollable laughter to the shock of Darous.

"whats funny?...." Darous asked slightly confusedly.

"is that the only way your friend can think of apologising for what he did to me?....telling you to toast me for him?"

"what apology? What did he do to you Lola?" Darous queried agogly now fully confused about the path the discussion just swayed.

"don't tell me he didn't tell you how he's been telling everybody in class that am his girlfriend?...."

"what?" Darous lamented eagerly. "Wait...Jide really said that? are you sure about this Lola?"

"ofcos am 100percent sure. Or why do you think I hated him in the first place?" Lola stated while readjusting the straps of her school bag.

"hmm. So whats going to happen now? You can't forgive him and forget?"

"forgive him? Even if I do, I can't date him. He's such a looser and we are not in the same class."

"ahah...how can you say that when you're both in the same SS2A.?"

"am not saying technically but figuratively am way above his level." Lola said as they both rounded a corner not too far from her residence.

A moment of silence escorted Lola's last statement before Darous could find his voice again.

"erm....Lola, why can't you just forget...."

"forget what? No no no....I can't...."

"why can't you?"

"nothing. Please can we just not talk about any Jide-like related issue again?"

"hmmm....then what do we discuss? I can't go back to him without any good news." Darous asked after pondering on her statement for sometime.

"then find a good news to tell him."

"like what?"

"well," Lola shrugged. "you can tell him Jesus loves him. Thats goodnews."

"funny you...."

"tell me something Darous, do you like me?" Lola asked in her attempt to change the topic.

"sure...everybody likes you...." He replied shyly.

"I know, agapely. But do you like me? I mean you."

"what would you do if I tell you I don't?"

"nothing."

"are you sure?"

"yes..."

"you sure you won't wake up nakèd at midnight and start cursing my creator?" Darous said sarcastically.

"com'on....I won't...and I can't. Its a free world. You can like and hate whoever you want."

"ok....I....." he paused when he saw how eagerly and anxious she was staring at him as they've both stopped behind the uncompleted building at the back of her house. "I...I...."

"Please say it nao."

"well, I like you." He declared finally.

"yes! I knew it...thats why you helped me out during the exams right? Cos you like me?"

"well, actually, I can't say. Lets just say, my brain always malfunctions at the sight of beauty..."

Lola was totally elated the moment those words started flooding out of Darous's mouth. To her, getting the attention of one of the most handsome boys in school is one thing, but getting complimentary words from him is another great feeling entirely.

"then, whats stopping you from asking me out for yourself? Instead of hiding under the umbrella of your friend." Lola asked taking a quick glance at the back entrance of her house probably checking if there's anyone watching them.

"I....I don't know...know....maybe...cos my friend already likes you...."

"I will rather date the first born of lucifer himself before I agree to date a miser like your friend. Please can we not bring him to this topic again?"

"ok. So...." he was still talking when Lola quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and drew him towards her face before she placed a kiss on his lips.

The kissing moment lasted longer than the excitements of Nigerians when APC won the presidential elections and dollar started forming boss to naira few weeks after.

"now tell me, do you like that?" Lola asked after they had disengaged after the kiss.

"like what?"

"the kiss!"

"hmmm....yeap...I do..."

"fine, if you want more of that, then get your friend off my back." She said and started walking away towards her house.

***

"how far...? Have she accepted me?" Jide queried Darous the moment they saw eachother on the evening of that day.

"ah...erm...Jide....hmmm..." Darous stuttered

"wetin happen na? Talk...did she accept?"

"nope...nope...she said..." He stopped scratching his head to come up with a good lie as Jide starred anxiously and eagerly at his face. "she said you've offended him and will never forgive you talkless of dating you."

"oh! I know." Jide lamented dejectedly and Darous was very happy to see that reaction.

"and unless you are ready to spend more than five hundred naira to buy gifts for her, I don't think she can ever date you." he said all that, knowing how stingy Jide is whenever money is concerned to further spice up his claim thinking he will back down.

But just when he thought he'd ended Jide's chances of threading further on wanting to date Lola, Jide gave him the greatest shock of his teenage existence when Jide shook his head briefly and came up with a least expected reply.

"guy about that one, my Pman just give me 600naira, my exam fees, if I give it to you, you fit help me buy something nice with it na....."

"what!" Darous declared in shock. "your exam fees?"

"yes Darous. I love that girl more than my life."

>F.B<

"easy Jide, even if you use all your father's salary to buy gift for her, am not sure she's going to date you." Darous said, as they both settled on the bench at the front of Jide's father's house after they had both returned from the football pitch on the evening of that day.

"What makes you say that? Did she tell you anything more as to why she can't date me?" Jide said with a look of total gripe and eagerness. The young lad has obviously been blinded with a very rare insurmountable toxins of love and its on that ungrammatical reason that makes him very desperate to be willing to sacrifice his own future at the expense of teenage love. Eager and ready to make use of his own exam fees to buy gift for a girl who might never succumb to his call of love. But albeit his reason for embarking on this errant journey was because he's got an alternative way to get another money to pay for his exam fees.

Should I tell you how he planned to do that? Well yes...I will tell you exactly his alternative way of getting money for his exam fees.

Jide had devise a plan to steal the same amount he's ready to part with from his fathers purse when the latter will be busy watching the Nigeria versus Sweden 2002 Korea-Japan world cup match inside their sitting room at 2pm on the following day. But what remains obviously oblivious to the soon-to-be culprit is the fact that, his father had made up his mind without informing him or his second wife who happens to be Jide's mother that, if Jide his first son, ever steals from him again, that instantly signals the final whistle of his education.

"talk now, wetin she tell you?" Jide asked again, now with more eagerness and tension in his tone when it appears to him that Darous isn't willing to shed more light on the issue.

"it doesn't matter Jide, but please, am telling you as a friend, to stop bothering your....."

"are you ready to talk or not?..." Jide curts in.

"listen....."

"to what?" Thundered Jide.

"are you stupid or what exactly is wrong with you? How can you say you want to use your own examination fee to buy gift for a girl who obviously doesn't like you one bit? What will happen if you drop out of school? Do you think Lola will want to spend the rest of her life with someone that has no future?...." He paused to study the reaction of Jide who appeared expressionless at the moment. He heaved a short sigh and continued. "let me tell you the fact Jide, whether you use yourself to do ritual just to buy something good for her or you do it by robbing the central bank, I can tell you factly that Lola can not agree to date you. Either for money or free."

He ended conclusively, hoping that will will sway his friend's mind away from wanting to date Lola but the other boy wasn't ready to budge, not even if his life depended on it.

"thats where you are wrong Darous..." Jide replied rather calmly than furious.

"am wrong?"

"yes you are. Wait....shey you still remember my uncle that was living with us before we enter ss1?"

"hmmm...uncle Bolu right?"

"yes...."

"ok. What about him?"

"do you know he eventually got married to Alhaji Adaena's beautiful daughter living beside our house after all the problems and troubles she made him went through?" He ended with a questioning eyebrow.

"what!....really?" Darous asked suprised.

"yes na?" Jide replied.

"Ahah, thats awesome..when did that happened that I didn't know of it?"

"it happened the following week your father told you not to come to our house again because of what...I did to your neighbour."

"you mean when you stole Mr Chinedu's Sagem My-X5 phone and said it was me before your father eventually found it with you and you still went on to claim I gave it to you to keep for me?"

"ehn...see it as a payback for telling my father that I usually run out of class during school hours to go home and watch film." Jide stated un-remorsefully and all Darous could do was shake his head pitifully. His friend has always been fond of paying a one naira evil back with a millionaira worth of vengeance. He could go to the extreme of sponsoring a deadly terrorist group to distablilize the peace and unity of a great country just to get even with the ruling president because the latter had asked him to pick litters around the school compound for coming late when they were both in secondary school and the president had been the labour prefect at the said time.

"do you really have to do all that because I snitched on you? Don't you know I was only protecting your future?"

"I don't need your protection Mr Protecter. That duty is meant for my parents alone. All I need from you is to just be a friend to me and as far as am concerned, friends don't snitch on eachother." He paused before he continued after a brief silence. "will you tell me what she told you as to the reason why she can't date me or not?" He asked, eventually bringing the Arsenal of the discussion back to its original fourth position where they'd started.
"well, Lola actually told me the only thing she'd be accepting into her life is Jesus Christ...so I advice you to get that into your thick canine skull."

"thats bullshit. How does her church life gets involved with her dating life.?"

"I don't know, but judging by the way she reacted after I told her you love her, am sure she's damn serious." He stopped and noticed the change in his friends countenance so he quickly added. "am sure she's really a religious addict if not yet a religious trafficker already gan self."

"hmmm," Hmmmed Jide after a brief moment as he shifted in his sitting position. "wetin go happen be say, na the gift go fit do am. Help me buy better gift dash her, she no fit say no to that na? Or what do you think?"

"What I think?" Darous asked, holding his right palm on his chest.

"yes na?"

"well apart from the fact that you're willing to spend your exam fees on a lady, I think you are a talented idiot. How can you place your own future lower than the pleasure of having a girlfriend?"

"Darous, no go there again o...no go there...ahaha, shey you no dey there when Abdullahi and Michael dey abuse me since Ss1 say ah no fit get a simple girlfriend till ah die?"

"so all this suicide huzzling to toast Lola na simply because you want to prove them wrong?" Darous asked rubbing his palms together in a 'I can't believe this' manner.

"ehn nao"

"at the expense of your own future?"

"Darous...."

"my friend, na devil's first eleven dey pursue you...."

"wait... Ah dey come." Jide interrupted as he rose up and entered the house while Darous was left sitting down on the bench thinking of what just transpired between them. His friend just subconsciously gave him a tangible reason to take Lola for himself.

"how can he deliberately steal a phone from my neighbour and be saying it was I that stole it just because he wants to revenge?" Darous stated in a soliloquizing manner. "well, I think this is my chance to pay the idiot back for the humiliation and severe beatings I received from my Dad on that day. Yes, I must get even with this fantastic idiot..." .

***

"take this and help me buy something nice for her." Jide handed 6 wads of 100naira notes to Darous who reluctantly collected it.
"Darous, I trust you on this please no fvck me up. Friends always look out for eachother.."

"thats if they are on the same team." Darous completed the phrase mentally as he rose up, tuck the money in his boot-cut jeans and exited the place with just one mission in mind which is to get even with his friend but their actions begs for this question: Who's keeping the scores?

***

The 3rd term examination of Egba Comprehensive High School in the suburb of Abeokuta there in the gateway state came and went like a flash.

While brilliant students were being promoted on the merit of excellence, so were the dullard students that got repeated were also failed on the merit of woefulness and worstfulness.

While the promoted students were getting 'keep it up' remarks from both their class teachers, principals and well wishers, so were the repeating students getting remarks such as, 'there is still room for improvements', 'Try harder next term', 'Advice to withdraw', 'I will rather use my money to raise a poultry than send a legendary dullard like you to school', 'This result is the end of your education', and etcetera synonym phrases from class teachers, principal, vice principal, guardians and parents respectively.

However cruel and disdainfully that kind of plight might portrayed itself to be for those that failed to get promotion, still can't be compared in any measurable terms to the fate that befell a certain Olabanwo Olajide of Ss2A who after failing to register a single present mark during the examination process due to failure to pay his school fees, was also sent parking from home by his own father when the latter had found out that his son didn't pay the money given to him for the required fee and that errant act had been the cause of his failure to get promotion from the penultimate class to the graduating class. And to further add more to his C.V of failures, all his effort to get the Girl of his dream crashed in absolute futility.

Ironically, the contrary is the case for a certain Idowu Oluwadamilare a.k.a Darousmart of the same school and class whom had not only passed in almost flying colours but was also crowned with the euphoria of being appointed as the assistant senior prefect boy of the next session while Lola, his new girlfriend was also appointed as the social prefect girl. His own appointment can't be said to be fully based on his blurred brilliancy as there were hundreds of students who were absolutely more brilliant than him in the school and academically arguably more qualified for the post. So therefore, his appointment can be said to be parcentagely based on his unrivalled neatness, dutifulness, unlatefulness and mostly out of the percentage was his handsomeness.

Then something happened.
