Thank you @bigfrancis.....is a student that is being offered admission required to make a payment of any form for deferment of admission?

And secondly, would there be a problem should a student ignore the school upon arrival to the USA?

Every day in the news there been so much deportation of Nigerians from left and right...sure its not only Nigerians but its naija news i read grin

if someone chooses to ignore

Result: it becomes a problem, can be hard to correct , leaves one in a state of limbo (cant work legally or school), and potentially be in the news among those deported .in summary not a good move especially not on Trump administration ..

except if you mean ignore that school but change to another. then yes that ok if done properly

Pardon me for taking a moment of levity. It wasn't meant as a slight, I was just being realistic.

I think it's important to also consider the career prospects when applying to graduate programs; you want to know about graduate recruitment and the possibility of getting an employer that can sponsor you for the H1B especially if you want to stay over in America and garner work experience.

This is even more important because republicans have total control of the US government and have vowed a very muscular immigration policy.

I guess I just think there are other considerations that we want to look at.

Speaking of the H1B Visa... Is it still running with the lottery system? What recent ammenent has been made to it? Have they passed the bill to increase the minimum annual payment to foreign workers so as to discourage companies from filing for foreign workers? How tough has it gotten in general terms to get a company to sponsor you for the visa in 2017?

To be honest, the American dream for me is to work for about 3 years in the US before returning and necessarily to become a permanent resident.

I am grateful for your response, I am actually going for MBA majoring in International Business. The cost is $16848 USD per year for the programme. Please how did you see the cost effectiveness. Also does the size of a school determine how well the school is established? Am just asking because I got no idea of it.
Respect

well the bigger the school might be better but as everything its relative to what you want.... for a school to be large then the population trust that its good value for money hence they flock there . but size is relative because its not about size . in most cases bigger and older schools are more established than smaller schools. but then again what ur definition of established and what do u need it for

you need to check on the quality of the program and factor other things that are important to you and your goals.....cost might be one....... for MBA that one its tricky and depending on what u aim to get out of it after graduation. if the aim is to study and you already have a great job waiting for you then sure that works if you think the school is suitable based on your research

if the plan is to get a good job within the system been an MBA student then the ranking table and how the school ranks in mba program should be your guide.

LagosismyHome, since you've lived in both countries, I think you should be in a good position to answer this.

How easy/difficult is it to change status from student visa to H1b visa in the US compared to changing from student visa to *Tier 2 visa in the UK?

* - I'm not sure I got the name, Tier 2, right but by Tier 2, I mean temporary work visa just like the H1b of the US.

i belive times have gotten harder in both countries .... when i started this hussle H1b was a lot easier and so was Tier 2...... now both are not easy , although some people still break through that all i can say

Tier 2 is hard at the moment . companies dont want to file . i think the difference is with US the one year opt still gives you a bit more time to find and Stem but Uk no post study except phd.. That uk no post study is a no no for me. wont advice anyone hustling go there. canada instead of UK as its more surer for PR but jobs appear to be fewer there

OK. Thanks for the insight. I have started considering Canada for a while now because of this issue.

On the OPT, is it given for all courses? True, I learnt that STEM courses have a longer OPT duration so it will buy them time. But other courses...like in the social sciences, do they get OPT too? Is it harder for social science folks to get an h1b compared to STEM folks? Can one apply for an OPT without getting a work first? If no, how many days or months after the termination of one's studies does one have to get a place to work before applying for the OPT?

Please pardon my many questions o. The goal is not to just cross border for me so I have to factor all these in before hand.

Yes, you can. Technically, you can apply 2months before graduation in as much as you've signed your exit form. It's usually not advisable to apply in a rush if you don't have a job yet or you've not gotten interviews or prospect. Start shooting for jobs during your final semester. It takes like 90days to get your OPT card.

NB: it beats me why international student apply for opt and pay the mandatory $420 when you can apply for a waiver? All those I've advice have never gotten any reject (more than10 candidates). The form is readily available, make use of it. Just prove to them you can't afford to pay the money, there are loads of cogent reasons considering the state of the nation under Fulani rule.

United airline from Frankfort to Chicago
United airline from Chicago to Salt Lake City

The Services wasn't below expectation, twas just like I was the Co-pilot with the Flight map feature, Food was nice.
CBP was also smooth..if you processed your admission yourself, you should have no fear,
I was asked
What's my purpose of coming?
What's my course of study?
Who is financing?
What's are the Food stuffs I have with me?

Boom!! Welcome to America...
I Claim my baggage and re-checked in for a transit to SLC,
It was a safe land at SLC airport, but so sadden my second Bag was mishandle(couldn't find it),I laid complains at the UA office, they said its was its at Chicago and they reassuringly told me it will be delivered to my address the next day..i checked the status online all I see is "we are still looking for your Bag".. I start to wonder if the bag has turn to a needle..

All the best to those awaiting admission decision, you couldn't get your Visa? use this time to cover all ground again next semester what is yours will come to you...

Pardon my Typo if any. wink
Welcome brother!!.. Your head is valid.

This question depends soely on your determination and love for the the field (IT)

Cosade
If you're interested in working as an IT professional, you simply chose an area of interest (networking, database administration, hardware engineering, software development, ERP implementation, systems audit & contols, etc); and get certified in that area. In such cases you won't need to do too much mathematics.

I'm really grateful for your responses. I've just been worried/scared about studying marketing and after 4 years I'll start stressing myself before I get a job again. I'll work on everything you've said. Thank you!

Lottery system..yeah. Any amendment in the works would only seek to make it even more difficult to get a visa. A figure that would give you an idea is H1B applications declined by about 37k for the first time in recent years...main reason I advise people to go for job-ready courses if you plan to apply for H1B. The reality doesn't hit you until you're close to graduation.
And..PR in 3 years? Very few companies do that.

Your question made me remember the days of night browsing grin grin.

When you have to sit through the night in a cyber cafe browsing God knows what.

Well, I guess you will have to employ night browsing strategy here. Use google and Wikipedia to find all schools and colleges in NY and go through them one by one to find the one that exempts GRE for an engineering program.

Best of luck!

Welcome, there is always a FIRST TIME for everybody. Someone one this thread have been successful getting a master program in US with a HND from home. Someone has also suggested that you read through the last 20 pages. In addition, use the Nairaland land search on top of the page and search for polytechnic or HND and limit that to TRAVEL section. You will get handy information.
All the best.
