Iheanacho.

I have to start on a bad note. Looks overweight to me. I wonder if he is eating right and training hard. Nacho needs to understand that a lot of expectations rest in him. I hope he takes his career seriously. His first love should be football. It has brought him fame, success and great opportunities. He needs to show football loyalty and love.

Too early to rely just on his talent. It is time to move beyond positioning and finishing. Nacho needs to work harder on the training pitch and eat right. Speed and stamina is a big part of top class finishers.

Good side of today was his awareness in working with his teammates. That was nice to see. Made nice runs but could not deal with the pace of the Camerounians. Pressed well but lacked the stamina to press for long length with intensity.

Needs to work on his tricks. A big part of dealing with pressure.

However, the talent showed with his decision making, positioning, awareness, intelligence to drop deep and support build up. Sad Moses did not return the pass instead of going for the cheap.

Capped an okay performance with a well taking goal.

Yes it's perfectly okay, but they must work hard for a spot like everyone else.

Iheanacho Na Iheanacho. With some space, he will definitely finish. I predictes he would provide the icing on the cake even before he was subbed in.

First time I'm watching Ezenwa play...he was much shorter than I expected. Good performance regardless. With Ighalo probably out injured, I think Nwakeme is going to start on Monday. I must admit I was surprised by Ighalo's performance today. Made me eat my words.

dont think d injury was dat serious....

Nice seeing the unity of the team. A big shout out to those who did not start. They are first Super Eagles fans before Super Eagles players. They supported the team with all their hearts. I remembered their reaction to the earlier cancelled goal.

Also found it nice when Alampasu went to hug Rohr. You could feel the love for the team. It is not about who starts but the team winning.

Get well soon Akpeyi. Thanks for taking the trouble to make the team's camp. Also nice seeing Dele Ajiboye on the bench and Ola Aina in the stands.

Dude, Mikel's best position is DM. If I were the coach, considering the magnitude of this game, I would play Mikel beside Onazi and give Ndidi the freedom to venture forward.

As regards to Moses Simon, I would have preferred Etebo in that position. I think Etebo offers more to the team, both defensively and offensively.

But, Iheanacho needs to watch his weight. This will help him maintain his speed and stamina. Also keep him from injuring regularly.

I remember he was a bit rated back when he was at Werder Bremen around 2010 -11. He always wanted to play for Nigeria. Credit to Keshi for inviting him.

Its quite obvious that is the only way to develop our talents faster and make better money. Often times the players we pick from the local league are maybe in the peak or past it. As they try to find their foot in Europe and cement a place in the national team time passes and most never get past these struggle.

I know some players that would have become world beaters had they have a better platform and go international early enough..
Muri Ogunbiyi of the Champions league winning Enyimba...My favourite Nigga. Muri Ogunbiyi was a midfield maestro ,in fact, one of the best midfield I ever watched play...Take this to the bank. The brother was just past his time by the time he got to Europe.
Taye Taiwo made it but same old age caught up with him.

Obinna Nsofor was the most feared attacker in the Nigerian league in Early 2000s when he laced boot for Kwara United. Nsofor had pace, skill accuracy and mountain high confidence but that rigorous terrain of making to Europe took some years from one of the deadliest striker ever in the Nigerian league.

Abdul Rahman Bashir was another midfield genius who got ran over by the destructive Nigeria league.
The skillful and athletic Onyekachi Okonkwo and immensely talented Damian Udeh were hampered by the Nigerian league....I could go on but I probably will shed tears when I remember great talents that rot away in the corrupt and destructive Nigerian league. My guys just dey play ball without food in their stomach....SAD!

Thank you for your brilliant info and expose. It is left to us to find a way to solve this norm. It is time to build our local leagues by commercializing it.

I will do my best to help. I hope we can get other committed hands. It can be done. The past and current generations lost out but the future generations should not.

I hope some of the great lads go into coaching to help groom future players. Thank you for your nice post.

And someone said Mikel should have been restricted to DM before the game. I hope he has quickly modified and retracted the post grin

I'm so happy ehn.. grin grin .. Almost lost my appetite for the Salah meal I got from my good Muslim neighbor...

Seriously I was too nervous in the first 20 minutes. The Cameroonians were just pressing us hard, but the boys kept their calm..

Ezenwa has proved many of us wrong... Barring any injury,I expect him to remain our no.1 choice even if Enyeama does return..

Mikel is still vital to the team.. Some folks here rooted for him to be played at AMF and I can see why.. We sure missed him against SA

As for uncle Echijele,he never see better competition that's why he dy play like that .

Couldn't agree more.. Iwobi really needs to work on his pace and crossing or better still convert to an AMF.. He isn't a winger at all

Cameroon will have to revamp their team after crashing out of qualification. We were in a similar position after winning our last AFCON, but the stubborn Keshi didn't read the handwriting on the wall before the World Cup proper.

Not Keshi. The NFF choosing to sack his Tactician, Sylvanus Okpala after the AFCON win really affected the team and caused a change in strategic approach.

player ratings
Victor Moses put up an impressive display for the Super Eagles in the big win.
The Super Eagles ran riot against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 4-0 in their World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
Goals from Odion Ighalo, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho were enough to help the three-time African champions take a step closer to the Russia 2018 World Cup.
But how did the players fare in the game?
We rate the Nigeria players and how they performed.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa
Did his confidence a world of good with a confident showing. He didn’t display any nerves as calmly collected his balls all through the game, keeping a clean sheet in the process. 7
Shehu Abdullahi
He started the game slowly, but grew into it. He looked far better in the second half, but will still need to improve if he is to stake a real claim to the position in the long term. 6
Elderson Echiejile
Like Shehu, had a slow start but got better as Nigeria improved. Still not the best left back, but was solid enough to hold his own. 6
Troost Ekong
His best always shows whenever he is paired along with Leon Balogun. Showed great composure to neutralize Vincent Aboubakar. 7
Leon Balogun
He is surely the Super Eagles’ Dean of Defence. He marshalled the defence so well, and made key and timely interceptions. He is currently Nigeria’s best defender. 8
Ogenyi Onazi
Looked uncomfortable all through, but provided the assist for Iheanacho’s goal. A decent shift overall. 6
Wilfred Ndidi
The better of the two holding midfielders. Made impressive forays into the attack, and won tackles neatly. He is fast growing into an important player for the team. 7
John Obi Mikel
Captain fantastic! He showed what the Super Eagles missed in his absence against South Africa. On his return to the team, he contributed an assist and a goal. Talk about leading by example. 8
Victor Moses
Man of the match. He tormented the Cameroonians so much that they looked so scared to get close to him. Capped it with a beautiful goal. And he almost got a second before he was replaced. 9
Moses Simon
A much improved performance by the winger, and showed great maturity on the ball unlike in previous games. 7
Odion Ighalo
What a way to announce his return to the Super Eagles. Much maligned for failing to deliver the goods for the national team, the 28-year showed his worth with a well taken goal in the big win. 7

Super Eagles Captain Mikel : If We Continue Playing This Way, We Can Beat Anybody In Africa

Tianjin Teda midfielder John Obi Mikel has reacted to Nigeria's 4-0 thrashing of African champions Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier staged at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday evening.

The former Chelsea star has promised that Nigeria will make it to the 2018 World Cup and the next African Cup of Nations, adding that he will continue to inspire the young players in the squad.”

We have a very young team, obviously I have been here for a long time and now I am the captain of the team. I feel I have responsibility every time I step on the pitch to play,'' Mikel said at the post-match press conference attended byallnigeriasoccer.com.''

This team needs experience, this team needs guidance. The players are very good players, quick players.''

Sometimes they need someone they listen to, someone who can direct them to make sure we have balance and know exactly what we are doing and that's what we did today.

''Mikel added : ''I will do my best, I will carry this team same way I did in the Olympics.''

I want to make sure we go the World Cup and also qualify for the Nations Cup. If we continue playing this way, I think we can beat anybody in Africa.''

Nigeria, who have a hundred percent record in the World Cup qualifiers, will face Cameroon in the return leg in Yaounde on Monday, September 4.
