Ighalo Suffers Minor Hamstring Injury, Says He'll Be Ready To Face Cameroon

Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo has explained why he signaled to the bench to be substituted in the 60th minute of Nigeria's World Cup qualifier against Cameroon on Friday evening.

Ighalo picked up a minor hamstring injury but is confident he will be available for selection against the Indomitable Lions in two days time.

''I was feeling tight on my hamstring, that's why I didn't want to force it. We were winning 3-0 then.'' Odion Ighalo told
allnigeriasoccer.com .

''I am okay and will be ready for our next game against Cameroon.''

Odion Ighalo showed his strength and composure to wriggle free of a Cameroonian defender before opening the scoring for the Super Eagles in the 29th minute.

You're very right sir. If Nigeria can make it close to or into the top 10 teams in the world before the world, that will come in handy during world cup and afcon draws as you implied, which may result to Nigeria not having the likes of Argentina to content with in the group stages.

And also, the momentum can continue to be gathered from subsequent games with regular players with gradual introduction of the new ones. As Mikel said in his interview, the players needs directions and balance. And playing with the regular players can fetch them that.

Perfecto!

Statistically, we are not there yet.... wink Hopefully we finish Monday with a draw at worst or another win (maybe by the odd goal) and we are coasting home. Nobody takes Broos seriously around here anyway... cheesy

But ehmmm... come first.... on a side note... I need you to take a message to Solanke for me. wink I want him in the Super Eagles. He got a sweet right foot that he is not afraid to use to hit the ball with such power and precision. Get him for me will ya? wink

You can engage Sir Komekn's services if possible. Just get it done man.

Solanke... is a natural left footer though plays equally well with his right foot.

However, I think Komekn is in the best position to do that and our qualification to the world cup will make it easier to lure him, otherwise, I am afraid he's good as gone if he blows for Liverpool this season. grin

Breaking – Cameroon Coach Resigns After Humiliating Loss To Super Eagles
September 2, 2017 0 1
Hugo Broos
‎Coach of the senior national team of Cameroon Hugo Broos has resigned from his role as coach of team hours after his team suffered a 0-4 drubbing in the hands of Nigeria.
Broos who lead the team to victory at the last Africa Cup of Nations admitted after the loss to Nigeria that his team chances of going to the World Cup 2018 is over, as they are currently stuck on two points as against 9 points for Nigeria.
His resignation means a new coach will be in charge of the team when they take on Nigeria on Monday in Yaounde in the reverse tie, where even a win won’t be able to breathe life into their quest to qualify for Russia 2018.

Rohr: How I selected Cameroon Killer Squad

By Kayode Ogundare (Pix: Ganiyu Yusuf) in Uyo

Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr said the players made his job of selecting the right team easier for him by their attitude to work since the first day of camping and it was no surprise to him that the Indomitable Lions were defeated in such a dominant manner.

Speaking at a post-match conference after the 4-0 victory on Friday, the German-born tactician said the team played with maturity and worked for each other all through the game.

“It was not difficult to pick the first 11. All the players in camp are good enough to play. They showed extensive intelligence and played with maturity. We beat a very good team but we also showed what we are capable of doing.”

Rohr also explained that his gameplan against Cameroon was simple and easy to interprete by the players.

He said: “Our goal was to play ground football and exploit Ighalo’s fitness and footwork. We also knew we had to defend with intelligence because Cameroon have big physical players. We worked on corner-kicks in training and actually scored one goal from a corner.”

The Super Eagles ran out comfortable 4-0 winners and are scheduled to play the reverse fixture in Yaounde on Monday.

I am glad that the Nigerian team now has a coach that sees the importance of set-pieces and from the his matches so far, Nigeria has rarely conceded from set-pieces. Defending set-pieces was a major problem for Nigeria especially in the 2014 world cup. Nigeria conceded two goals from Argentina via set-pieces and conceded the first and demoralizing goal from France via set-pieces too from Pogba's header. The importance of scoring with set-pieces and being good at defending against it should never be undermined again. Set-pieces can keep a team in a tourney or send them parking.

If the likes of Moses, Leon Mikel(MLM courtsey Joebie) made it to the camp in france and played against SA. Rohr might has well be on an 100% winning records- Just think out loud.

Thanks Sir Icon4s. Though in my years watching the Super Eagles I've endured more bitter and cruel defeats against our team but that defeat by South Africa disconnected something inside me. It was so painful I couldn't bear to read anything Super Eagles. Perhaps it was because it was a historic defeat, I can't say. But yesterday's victory is a healer, a good tonic for our souls.

Good news.

So many options at right back (Shehu Abdullahi, Ola Aina, Tyrone Ebuehi, Musa Mohammed, Nura Abdullahi, Moses Odubajo and Dominic Iorfa Jnr) but very few at Left back. undecided

Despite putting up a decent performance, Elderson Echiejile still gives me the jitters. We need quality options at left-back too.

Add Ehizibue to the RB option.

The zonal positions when defending corners was very obvious and impressive. We had a player guarding the near post and one on the edge of the area. It shows that some work had been done on corners, in particular.

Shehu and Ebuehi have been together in camp severally and Shehu keeps getting the nod. Let us see what Aina can offer instead. Ebuehi for fit face those Cameroonian faces today?
Akpeyi and Ezenwa were together in camp severally and Akpeyi kept getting the nod over Ezenwa, if not for injury sef, Akpeyi would have manned the post against Cameroon too.

Do not discard Ebuehi without proper trial, it's unfair to the boy especially as you must consider the fact that he has repeatedly been called up since he was first invited. That says a lot of his abilities, does it not? If he wasn't so good, he would have stopped getting invites.

And we will not always play Cameroon. We must have players for every opposition

good observation.

I made mention of the importance of setpieces going in to this double encounter. Stating that it can either mar or make us. I was even suprised when I saw V. Moses positioning himself to take those kicks. But alas he suprised me with how he took all-cos me was expecting Moses Simon to the job.

Aside the set pieces did you see how our players were taking those shots? I think if most of our players playing home or abroad can put in a shift in training the sky will be their starting point.

Now, to Solanke.... yes. He is left footed... but his right foot is also powerful. He is two-footed infact and I want him because he will give us another dynamic angle to our attacking play alongside Tammy Abraham too (who is right footed)... Solanke will have a great chance with us and can provide invaluable cover in our attack. Being two footed makes us have another angle from which our attack can hurt opponents.

Just hope he turns out for us... Tammy too. Can't be holding out for just Osimhen you know. wink

Abeg... Komekn... talk sense into that lad.

But Dominic doing well at Liverpool is what we want naa.... so make him no blow because we no want England on his case? If he no do well naa... won't that be an excuse for some Nigerians to also say... "Him no good joor... why bother?"

So plsss... make him do well... he has chased out Origi already... he is now backup to Firmino. He can only get better. Hope he turns out for us shaa.

My major concern with Rohr is with the way he handles substitution.

He keep on substituting likes for likes. I wasn't expecting another attack minded sub after Kelechi at least we were already winning comfortably- there was no need for Moses-Musa sub. It should've been Moses-Ebuehi which could have see us experiment Shehu in the midfield.

During the Confeds cup we also made that observation on this thread I recall so well.

Chief Icon4s, myself and a couple of others super analysed and dissected this Camerounian team. Their danger/threat from set pieces was taken note of by Rohr and his crew.

I recall during Oliseh's reign the one positive improvement we showed was our offensive threat from setpiececs.... But now Rohr wanna make our team both Ultra offensive and ultra defensive from set pieces.... We must keep building the ways in which we can hurt teams coz sometimes Goals from Open play do not win games.... Set pieces do.

We need to master the craft of hitting those freekicks too.... Moses Simon Ajala is a good freekick taker and should shoulder more of that responsibility when it is close or around the 18-yard box. Remember his goal against Swaziland? Splendid.

Also other players should be tested with set piece because of their precision and accuracy with their hits and shooting. Players like Kelechi Iheanacho has a sweet left foot and has got excellent precision with his hits/shots. Like BascoVanVeli says sometimes... Nacho has the best left foot in the team and in the country now. He should be honed to take freekicks too. Not all angles of freekicks need a right footer... sometimes.. a left footer is needed because of the various angles freekick can take positions around the opponents' box.
This is another reason I need Solanke too. Lad got precision in his shooting too. Him, Nacho and Simon... that will be good. I cannot begin to harp about having genuine freekick specialists in your team.

We need to be ready to hurt teams from various channels and not just Beautiful attacking plays... sometimes.. set pieces win championships and Titles.

This is a serious matter that we must look into to make our Super Eagles more dangerous.

Nice input, I also feel Ndidi should be added to the set pieces crew, his rocket launcher leg can be of use from direct positions in front of goal from 30 yards. the type Alex scores when he was at Chelsea.

Thank You My Good man... how could I forget Ndidi? smiley.
His precision with both feet is also very strong.

Honestly... if we can get like two very good direct freekick takers in our team... then we just increased our chances of hurting teams from all over in addition to the lethal attack we have from open plays.

Look at Brazil... they boast Neymar, David Luiz, Coutinho, Willian etc when it comes to Setpieces (especially Direct freekkicks). From indirect freekicks, they boast Silva and Luiz who can provide aerial threats to nod home goals.

We can have that.... we should be utilising Nacho's bad-ass left foot the more and his super precision in shooting/curling the ball.

We ought to also utilise Ndidi's two footedness in hitting screamers with such precision and direction. Same goes for Simon Moses.

Also from indirect freekicks, we should utilise more of Balogun's and Ekong's aerial abilities to hurt teams offensively.

We can do this... I have seen where it is just a direct freekick or a corner kick that decided a game in a final. We need to heighted our chances of hurting teams from all angles of play. Then believe me, We would he almost unstoppable going forward on the world stage.
