Cameroon seek Yaounde redemption Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr © BackpagePix Cameroon will seek redemption when they face Nigeria in a 2018 World Cup qualifying clash at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde on Monday evening, kick-off at 7pm CAT (SA, GMT+2). The teams met in a Group B clash on Friday night and Nigeria powered to 4-0 victory on hone soil in Uyo, thanks to goals from Odion Ighalo, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho. As a result of the comprehensive victory, the Super Eagles are on verge of qualifying for Russia 2018: a win in Yaounde, combined with a win or draw for Algeria against Zambia in the other Group B match on Tuesday, and Nigeria will be able to book their flights to Russia. Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr dedicated the victory on Friday to goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who is currently battling Leukemia, and praised gloves-man Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who put in a strong showing against the Indomitable Lions. “Before the match we pledged to win it for Carl and that we delivered tonight,” said the German tactician after the match. “He [Ezenwa] kept well, just like the defence showed a lot of organisation and discipline.” Rohr also outlined his plan for the remainder of the qualifiers, starting with the match against Cameroon. “We need 11 points to qualify and now we have nine,” he explained. “We must avoid defeat in Cameroon and fight for the remaining point in the remaining two matches against Algeria and Zambia.” Rohr added, “We had a good mix of experience and youth, which was key to our victory. It is not finished yet, that is why we remain very humble.” As for Cameroon coach Hugo Broos, the Belgian has admitted that his side’s hopes of reaching the World Cup are gone after the heavy loss in Uyo. "There is no pressure anymore on Monday, Nigeria have nine points, we have two points," Broos explained. “But there is only an honour to defend, there is no importance to this. I just hope my players will have the same mentality that I have - that they will fight on Monday till the last minute - to beat Nigeria. "If we had won this game, we would have a chance, but we lost it and I hope everyone will learn from this." Gambian referee Bakary Gassama will take charge of the match in Yaounde on Monday evening. The other Group B match between Algeria and Zambia will be held in Constantine on Tuesday night, kick-off at 10.30pm CAT (SA, GMT+2). tbaba1234: Sure. But let's even look at the worst case scenario. What if Zambia beats Algeria and Nigeria loses to Cameroon. What happens? We will still have a 2 points lead and just need to beat Zambia in Uyo to qualify with the game in Algeria to spare. We are already at the corridor of the gate leading to Russia jooor. |

The former Netherlands U20 international has formed an effective partnership in central defense with Mainz 05 ace Leon Balogun since he broke into the national team setup in 2015. The Team's Travelling plan (not time specific) is contained within this piece and it matches what I said.... we leave Sunday aboard a chartered flight. V. Moses, Iheanacho Not Getting Carried Away, Focused On Battle Of Yaounde Chelsea dazzler Victor Moses and Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho, who were both on target in Friday's World Cup qualifier, have celebrated Nigeria's win over the Indomitable Lions but are refusing to get carried away. The attack-minded Premier League stars are focused on the return leg in Yaounde on Monday, knowing fully well that another victory will put the Super Eagles in a good position to qualify for their sixth World Cup. Moses posted on Instagram : ''Massive 3 points the lads were brilliant, hopefully one step towards the World Cup! No better feeling than scoring for your country either #SuperEagles #proud''. Iheanacho stated on Friday : ''Team on firetoday, we focus now on the second leg #GodIsTheGreaTest #supereagles⚽️'' The Super Eagles are scheduled to leave for Yaounde on Sunday, September 3 aboard a chartered flight. Nigeria lead the way in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers with nine points, followed by Zambia who have four points after their 3-1 win over Algeria at National Heroes Stadium, Lusaka on Saturday. **Ifeanyi Emmanuel Source: http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=24477 |

Mickael2:Nice post, good to beat Africa champion 4 nil and kudos to d boys for achieving this great feat. The group was a group of death comprising Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Zambia. When this group was announced, nobody believe Nigeria w have 9 point in her first three matches talk less of leading d group coz w thought we don't have players to do it. Kudos to Rohr for salvaging Super Eagles,d team was already dead with d way Olishe managed it,ranging from captainship band, benching good player for mediocre and player announcing their retirement from national team. Rohr came and uplift d team psychologically with young and old players,d emergence of player like Ndidi,Nacho,Iwobi,Shehu,Aina,Agu,Awaziem, Simeon,Ebuhi,Etebo,Ekong gave a greater boost to d team, also d old ones like Mikel,Moses,Onazi,Echiejele,Ogu,Ighalo,Ideye and great integration of Balogun,Ebuhei,Aina,Ikeme. There is a great spirit among d players irrespective of who is on d starting line up and this has been d hallmark of this team, losing against South Africa dampened their spirit and even d fans but they rose to d occasion when it matter most against Cameroon,a lot believe it w not be possible but they make it so easy. Ezenwa reminds me of Enyeama against England. He was so calm and confident which should be d sign of a good keeper,he prove a lot wrong even me. Shehu too had a great game,he played it together with Simeon and was at his best in that game, with this displayed,Aina w need to prove to Rohr he is ready to displace Shehu. Echiejele, well nothing much coz he has always been present and with good experience on his side but that was not his best game for Nigeria,he need to always show d younger ones what to do but unfortunately Leon was d one doing that,i hope he w have a better game in Yaounde. Ndidi what a class and did a yeoman job,he combined well with Onazi and Mikel and we are able to see better performance this time around from Ndidi and Onazi than SA match, his passese were accurate and he shield d defence very well. Onazi a workaholic player who move all around despite his size against towering Cameroon players, he had a good game, his recovery rate was superb and gave a lot of energy to d team, combined well with Ndidi than SA game. Simeon look shaken but make up for it as d match progress,in all he had a nice game with good assist but need to work on his precision and vision.Good for d position for now but i wish w find better alternative. Mikel,he really show how captain of a team should play, a lot of player look up to him for inspirations and he didn't disappoint. He had a nice game with a goal and assist in goals scored by Ighalo and Moses. Ighalo, for d first time shows how good he was and his goal confirmed it.Truly Ighalo slammed somebody like me coz i don't believe in him.He was full of power and gave Cameroonian defenders tough time.Good to have Ighalo and Nacho in our team. Vic Moses, what a fighter who was all over d field giving Cameroon a lot of headache that they find it difficult to cope with him and he had a goal for it.Moses always show that urgency in d team and give space for others to explore. Iheanacho prove once again that no matter what he is a player that cannot be ignored, his goal rating is awesome for eagles and he show it when he came in Agu a player who i believe can replace any of our midfielder perfectly, his confident on d ball was great and he did it without fear Musa still remain d old Musa nothing to say much on him but i believe he can still regain his form. Michael2,truly we had a shaking start but at d end d team show glimpses of true champion by beating African champion 4 goals to nil, nobody expect this result. On our cohesion do not worry,d team w blend to our admirations, let us qualify first and u w see beautiful football.Sometimes in qualifying matches u find all this lacking. Next is Yaounde match which i believe d boys w still rise to d occasion and get us maximum 3points,then Russia here we come. 1 Like |

I think we need to take the 2nd leg really serious. Now that Cameroon understands our team make-up, we must try to be unpredictable. They may like to contain our midfield especially Mikel from giving killer passes. We should choke that midfield with players like Ogu and Agu. l don't mind a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 play. We also need to catch them on the counter. I believe that if we get the 3 points in Yaoundé, we will qualify. The Zambia and Algeria matches will be mere formalities. 2 Likes |

The 19-year-old, who joins the London club on a three-year deal, last played for Blackpool, whom he helped secure promotion to the League One last season. Osayi-Samuel told Queens Park Rangers official website : ''I'm happy to get the deal done - and the hard work starts for me. I just want to show my worth to this team and repay the club for bringing me here. ''Of course this is a step-up for me, but I am confident in my own ability and believe I can improve as a player here.'' World Cup Qualifiers – Super Captain Mikel Wants Eagles To Win Remaining Fixtures Captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel is eyeing a perfect finish to the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers as the Super Eagles gear up for the reverse fixture of their game against Cameroon. Super Eagles thrashed Cameroon 4-0 to move within one win of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia with three matches to go, but Mikel insist winning all their remaining games should be their target. The captain who scored and provided the assist for one of the goals scored by Nigeria wants the Eagles to finish the job in Cameroon on Monday, before the games against Algeria and Zambia. ”We have to maintain our focus for the game against Cameroon on Monday, hopefully we will be able to seal qualification if result go our way. We need to wrap it up, the sooner, the better”, Mikel told Owngoalnigeria.com. ”The aim is not to slow down after qualifying, winning all our games will increase our confidence going into the World Cup proper and other assignments we have”,. **Osas Mahawi Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/09/02/world-cup-qualifiers-super-captain-mikel-wants-eagles-to-win-remaining-fixtures/ 1 Like |

solonnachi: We are going to Yaounde with a win in mind cos we know we may actually book qualification on that day. I suggest we keep the same shape as the first leg. The difference being that The wing forwards will do more work to support the full backs. Creativity and the individual brilliance from Mikel, Moses and Simon would be key. We expect the Cameroonians to be all over us so we need those quality long passes to initiate counter attacks. If we are leading comfortably and we need to make a like for like switch for an attacker I would like to see Nwakaeme instead of Iheanacho. Let's see what he can offer. |

The reason most of this countries with lesser pro players or plyers who play in europe suprise bigger teams is,thereally want to show themselves and tackle them hard so this teams they ply for would see them too (everyone wnts to ply in europe) There maybe a major upset against zambia.they are full of hungry plyers who are growing to gain attention. |

Tamunotonye22: Aina and Ebuehi can do the job ahead of Osede. They can also play left back. Jordan Torunarigha is a natural leftie, who can play left back. But his father advised him not to play for 9ja. I think, we already have the players who can deputize for Elderson (Aina, Ebuehi). Ben Iroha was not a natural leftie but he did a great job. If we qualify on Monday, many of our foreign born players might start identifying with Nigeria to get a world cup ticket. 1 Like |

Joebie:they have been obdurate in that aspect. They said that they prefer the ”entertaining” and “mouthwatering” football from european clubs. Some say they are gutted by the “horrendous” performances of the super eagles in time past so they don't want anymore perturbations. I have resorted to lecturing them on the renaissance of the team, especially with this impressively talented, but it appears that they still pertinaciously maintain their fantasy for offshore clubs. I believe that if super eagles keeps getting the wins and perform well at the world cup, then some of them may reconsider. 1 Like |
