I salute everyone on this thread you are actually doing a great job.
Am new to this thread and also new to the EE procedures too.

Please I want to ask some questions

1) I used the CRS calculator to calculate my scores just to have an idea and my chances before I book for IELTS as am about to take the test. I got 448( with assumed good ielts scores)with age 34 years when I used 35years with the same assumed ielts scores I got 442. Abeg state the assumed good scores so we can know if u assumed well. and with this ur score I'm guessing you have a master's degree or 2 or more certs

Am actually 34 presently but I will turn 35 by December this year.

My question is when all the necessary documents are ready to enter pool which year should I put (35 or 34). I will enter pool before Dec by God's grace. 34, cos that's how old u will be as at time of "registration", (ur DoB) but don't worry about what age to write CIC is very good in math and is usually nice enough as to deduct 5 points from ur scores as u get older, so write ur correct date of birth. please note deductions happen if u haven't submitted ur application

2) My second question how can someone improve on the scores apart from the usual criterium? @442/448 u are fine according to recent draws. So focus on getting great ielts scores

I noticed that someone can add additional points by getting job with a recognised Employee in Canada while you are outside Canada and similarly, additional points can be added by provincial nomination.

Please how can someone get these?
Thank you

Do quick and start ur ECA if u really want to enter the pool before december.,

My 2nd IELTS wasn't so good- L 7.5, R 6.5, W 7 and S 7.5.
I lost concentration during the listening and missed 6 answers. I knew after the exam that getting 8 points would be a miracle. I got 8 in my first attempt and 6.5 for S, R , W. I did study for 2 weeks to get this new score.

How can one improve on reading? Any materials to use?

Its straight forward since you have all these documents. The only other thing you would need would be 3 reference letters from 3 clients. That's about it.

bigfido:
Guys, do we have anyone that claimed point for self employed work history? What were the documents you submitted? I have contract documents, bank statements, invoices, receipts, tax documents and article of memorandum of the company. I own it. Is there any other thing I am to include? I have work history that covers 6 years for paid employment 2008-2013..i believe this would suffice, but I already filled self employment for 2013-present.

You need more than work experiences.

You need to search for your NOC (Occupation, roles and job description), You need great Ielts scores, You need to get your documents evaluated too

Listening is a game of full concentration. Once you miss to track a question while listening, my Rule is do NOT attempt to recollect. You'l end up missing more. Also try to remote all environmental disturbance. I had to ask to put off standing AC next to me. Above added to good prep. Sure to av the required good score.

Also please I did a professional course here, meaning I will have to write the board exam in Canada before I can practice over there. so I think it is unlikely I will get a job offer based on my course from Canada. Can I get a job offer outside my profession? and will it be used to calculate my score?

@bbaby84, to corroborate your post below. I did a small analysis shown below using the CRS tool.

I am married with two kids. I completed CRS tool as married and chose spouse not accompanying me with a certain IELTS score (S:7.5-9, L:8, R:7.0-7.5 & W:7.0).
Hi billy, I feel compelled to respond to this post though would rather want the the debate to end as its been subtly on for a while. However, if the debate goes on with pointers that might help one, two or five people, then it's worth it.

I agree 100% with your post (and bbaby84 submissions) but I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that you lose points in some factors if you chose you have a spouse, rather we mostly recommend test takers (either single or married) to aim 8777 LRWS. Here is the gist, an applicant who is single does not get maximum score attainable from ielts with 8777 so does a PA with a spouse loses points attaining that score. A spouse on the other hand gets maximum (20) points claimable scoring 8777.

If I am right, yooku's initial post was made to encourage future test takers to max out their score with 8.5,8,7.5,7.5 (LRWS), but she only referenced CRS factor from a married applicant's perceptive.

In summary, applicants either single or married (PA) gunning to secure points possible should aim higher than 8777.

I have searched my NOC based on my profession here in Nigeria. I am an optometrist, meaning I will have
to write the board exam in Canada before I can practice over
there. so I think it is unlikely I will get an optometry job offer from Canada. Can I get a job offer outside my profession?
and will it be used to calculate my score?

Getting a job offer in any profession from OUTSIDE canada is quite difficult although possible..

With a job offer, you gain extra 200 points and with a provincial nomination, you gain extra 600 points. but note, nothing good comes easy. You just have to try, try and try, try and try..... It will be alright.

The best advice I'll give you concerning reading is that the questions are almost always paraphrases in the original comprehension. If you understand this concept, you'll get a 9 in reading. Use that concept to practice. The reading is the easiest to get a 9 in, cos all the answers are staring you right in the face.

I totally agree with you. I messed up big time. It was even the section 1 that I drifted, the easiest part of the listening exercise. It means I got all others to have scored 7.5. Would have gotten 9. It's well.

All other things I need for EE application is ready! ECA, POF, and so on. It's just this IELTS. Used to think POF would be my challenge for a family of 5 but I have been able to surpass that now. Thanks to God. My headache now is IELTS. I will surely overcome it too.
Thanks

If you mean getting a job to boost your CRS score, I'd say to hold off on that as your last resort. It's not an easy thing nicking a job in sunshine Canada from faraway Nigeria, except of course your employer here is transferring you.

Focus on other factors like IELTS or PNP to improve your score.

I go with MummyJaygirls on this one. S/he should start ECA as soon as possible. ECA for Nigerian degree takes months, some Nigerians schools can like to be something else. You should also not discount processing time of the evaluating body can be extended at any time. Both ECA and Ielts should actually be pursued simultaneously, preferably starting the ECA 1st.

I started my ECA when I had no valid passport, went on to renew the passport (which took about 4 weeks), then booked the earliest ielts (that too was about 4 weeks away). ECA and Ielts came 3 days apart.

Actually, if your accompanying spouse does well in ielts and does an ECA, the points will even out. So a single applcant with masters and good ielts score will get around exactly the same score as a married applicant and spouse that both aced ielts and have masters.

bbaby84:

I hope you've put this theory to test? Let me comment my real reserve
In case you didn't know, you get more points If you're a single applicant or if you have an unaccompanying spouse as opposed to married folks with accompanying spouses.
Please use the CRS tool.

Questions are paraphrased you meant. Answers are picked (word for word) right from the passage without changing their form.

I have read and read this thread. But a little confused about few things!

1. Am going to be the PA as my intended spouse is still in her finals(meaning her bsc is not ready for evaluation). So I did the CRS simulation and I got 443 as married (without my spouse IELTS and ECA). And I got 462 as single. Now am confused. Shld I dive into the pool as single and get married after AOR? What will be required of me after notifying them after AOR?

2. I work in a merchant bank as a contact staff in a dept which is under the account dept. My job duties involves posting of transactions into the software. It's more like and account clerk which I can't find in the NOC under 0,A or B. What shld I do?

3. Is the NOC part of the application process?

Your honest response will be appreciated.
