Yes not much details yet but after he returns to London and tables the proposal we should be hearing something in a few weeks. What's clear is it is a concrete request from the Nigerians which includes attack helicopters.

We are waiting just as we've being waiting patiently for the Mig variant.

I dont really think it would be prudent to add another type of helicopter into the mix... we already operate a,wide range of utility helicopters with similar characteristics.

.
I would suggest we just standardizes the fleet instead.

Non-standardization helps with sanctions busting. Nigerias eggs should never be in.one basket.

The Gripen is a light fighter same with Tejas.
cheesy

Lightweight fighters has a disadvantage against medium or heavy weights in combat

You don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I think mixing helo categorization with that of fighter.
Anyway please elaborate your statement.

Your not getting any jets bro.............Not from the US anyway!! The JF17s have been in NAFs pipeline for a few years now, so the purchase isn't much of a surprise.

Ok so now that we have established that:

1. The Tucano is the best fighter.........In Africa!

2. NN Unity and Centenary OPVs are the most advanced and powerful warships in africa..........with the most advanced 76mm gun on the planet which is fully capable of anti-ship and anti-air......oh and also functions as a CIWS capable of intercepting any type of missile.

3. Nigeria is the most powerful country in Africa..........BY FAR i might add!!

Here is a few pics of the much much inferior SANDF during Ex Shared Accord:

nemesis2uagain:
solve this one

variables/parameters

a sea skimming sub sonic missile flying at 5-10 m above sea level will be detected at < 40km due to radio horizon limitations by surveillance radar.

(provided the radar manages to pick it up against clutter / the radar operator manages to isolate it on the radar screen)

the fire control radar to which the AK 176 gun is slaved to has range of 6km for .1m2 RCS target

AK 176 gun derivative has a range of 11-15km with rate of fire of 60-120 rounds per minute
ammo load out 150+

under test conditions AK 176 needed 25 rounds to shoot a AT-2 Swatter ATGM stimulating a subsonic AShM.

(neglect the other guns for the sake of simplicity of solution)

the subsonic missile speed is .9mach ie 1076 km/hr

how much time does the ship has to engage the incoming target at the farthest engagement envelope possible via its sensor ie how many rounds can it fire with reasonable accuracy with the help of fire control radar before impact ?

surveillance radar warning will only help the ship to prepare itself/brace up for battle damage ie all hands on station alert plus simultaneously provide optimal evasive maneuvers, in tandem with best possible decoy launch and defensive weapon fire solutions via CMS .

the task of hard kill will lie on the FCR and the main gun firing PFHE type munitions

and the task of soft kill will lie on the CMS and decoy launchers.

so how many rounds can it get off for highest probability of kill ? grin

112 rounds

Pic 1. I read somewhere that American troops (who don't have a lot of experience in peacekeeping missions) naturally want to raise their weapons at a protesting crowd. Quite cool that this pic captures that.

Pic 2. Epic pic

Non standardization is literally the worst thing you could possibly ever want in your military

Also, why are you so concerned about sanctions?

No, Gripen and Tejas are Multi-role fighters

FA-50 is light attack, F-50 was a proposed multi-role but was cancelled. Its mainly a bomb-truck.

Su-30, F-18 etc are air-superiority fighters - long range, big sensors, long loiter times.

The only advantage or disadvantage in air-to-air combat is based on sensors, wing-loading, thrust/weight variables.

You're butt hurt your plans for project Biro was cancelled while Nigeria is currently about to purchase a SSV and missile crafts with the CNS requesting for funds to purchase a frigate and a submarine?

Let me tell you something, you might have some toys, those frigates etc but that Shiit doesn't mean you're going to invade us successfully.

Having piles of Ashm doesn't mean those ships will land on ships. There's something called ECM just as you said our 76mm has no anti warfare capability, you can as well say we have no countermeasures. Mr ITK.

The pat 83 (which they are all wearing) is a tactical vest. Infact, it was one of the first to see wide scale introduction in the world, at that stage, most everyone else was still using webbing.

If you are talking about plate carriers, or bullet-proof-vests (BPV's) then we have plenty of them, just only wear them in very specific circumstances because they make you slow and cumbersome. Usually urban and mechanised operations. Its hard to pick them out (because the news ones use the same cammo as our uniforms, unlike the old pat 83 with were made when we wore different uniforms)

In the bush:
Speed > Protection

Pic 1: front side
Pic 2: rear side (with plate outline visible)
Pic 3: in the feild
Pic 4: in the feild, guys on the right with SANDF issued, guy on the left with a privately purchased British Osprey Mk2 in DPM.

There is an updated version of the pat 83 in circulation. Dont know much about it though, seems based off the old (custom made) 32 Bt battle-vests.

Literally no one uses this classification system. Because the aircrafts unloaded weight is completely and utterly irrelevant.

The "light" Gripen has a 5,300 kg payload, the "Medium" Mig-29 only 4,000 kg, the "Medium" F-16 has one of the greatest payloads of all.

But hey, if it makes you feel better class the Ka-50 in the same league as the Gripen.. then go ahead.

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Monday, September 4, 2017 for a trip to Washington, DC. Mr. Buhari's trip to the US is at the invitation of President Donald Trump, with a Nigerian Presidency source telling our correspondent that Mr. Trump extended the invitation last February, shortly after his inauguration.
