‘Very Disappointed’ Stade Omnisport Director Promises Super Eagles Warm Welcome
By Nurudeen Obalola in Yaounde

The Super Eagles have nothing to fear and will be among friends during their short stay here in Yaounde, Completesportsnigeria.com has been assured.

The Nigerian team will arrive in Yaounde before noon on Sunday (today) for the return leg of their African qualifying Group B double-header with Cameroon having easily won the first leg 4-0 in Uyo.

Cameroonians were obviously disappointed in their team after their humiliation in Uyo, but are still treating Nigeria as partners, according to Mete Timothee, the Director in charge of Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo, venue of Monday’s match.

“We intended to win in Uyo to keep our qualification hopes alive but we had a bad match,” the friendly Timohee told Completesportsnigeria.com inside his plush office at the stadium.

“We are disappointed but it’s only football and we must preserve our friendly relationship.

“Nigeria and Cameroon are big rivals in football but we have a great friendship beyond football. The Super Eagles will have a warm reception here, they will be treated as friends.

“You can see for yourself that the stadium is in top shape and we hope for a good match on Monday.”
However, Timothee is still backing the Lions to get their pound of flesh on Monday.

“If things are good and there is no problem, we can beat any team here,” he added, smiling. “It’s our home and we want our people to be happy. We were all very disappointed after the first leg.”

Nigeria lead African qualifying Group B with nine points from three matches, while Cameroon have only two points from the same number of matches. Zambia are second with four points after their 3-1 victory on Saturday over Algeria, who have one point.

I agree with you. This news is disappointing. After such a win, the priority of the players is to have a good hot meal and a long rest to revitalize their body for the next day.

I hope they change. The aim should be qualify and then celebrate the victory.

Cameroon Striker Choupo-Moting Doubtful For 2nd Leg Over Injury, Broos Expects Lions To Win For Pride

Stoke City forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is a major doubt for Cameroon ahead of Monday’s 2018 World Cup matchday four qualifier against the Super Eagles in Yaounde Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The 2017 AFCON star sat out of his team’s training on Saturday due to an hamstring injury he sustained during the defeat to Nigeria and it remains to be seen if he will take part in their final session on Sunday.

Choupo-Moting was subbed on at half time for Moumi Ngamaleu in the Indomitable Lions’ shambolic performance in Uyo which saw them lose 4-0 to Nigeria, but the former Schalke 04 player was replaced by Arnaud Djoum 13 minutes later.

Meanwhile, Hugo Broos admits that Cameroon’s 2018 World Cup qualification hopes are all but over following their 4-0 defeat to Nigeria on Friday in Uyo.

Both teams clash again on Monday with Broos admitting that his side will be playing for pride.

The Super Eagles are top of Group B on nine points after three matches, five ahead of Zambia in second place and seven ahead of third place African champions Cameroon.

“There is no pressure anymore on Monday, Nigeria have nine points, we have two points,” Broos said after his side’s defeat in Uyo.

“We need to win all three games and Nigeria have to lose all three games, I don’t think that will happen.

“But there is only an honour to defend, there is no importance to this. I just hope my players will have the same mentality that I have – that they will fight on Monday till the last minute – to beat Nigeria.

“If we had won this game (in Uyo), we would have a chance, but we lost it and I hope everyone will learn from this.”

Goals from Odion Ighalo, John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho sealed the win for Gernot Rohr’s side.

Yea but the fact is that we made 2 crucial mistakes that could have been pounced on by a more clinical team. We ended up doing great but let us not feel like we have arrived. There is a big risk of complacency after such a big win just look at South Africa who have basically fallen apart after their win in Uyo.
I wasn't encouraging complacency with the post. At least they got a good result, even beyond expectations. No team is perfect in their efforts, even Real Madrid that are regarded as the best club team in the world are still yet to attain perfection, else they wouldn't be conceding goals. But their ability to continually win games despite conceding and having lapses is what makes them outstanding. The mistakes observed from the encounter will be worked upon, but it is not every time one should be pointing out flaws like worrywarts. The Cameroonians were ready for us. Their coach said in an interview prior to the match that they would be more defensive minded and play on the counter, but that was conspicuously the reserves of how the started, they attacked with all their might in order to get the first goal and demoralize the Nigerian team. Are you even forgetting that they are the reigning African champions? they defeated “big” teams on their way to the silverware and had many game experiences with some top teams in the world, you don't just expect them not to cause some threats! They could have even done worse to some of other top teams in the world.

Abeg ehn.... Sir Tbaba.... it is true we have no clear replacement but that is why we have to cast our net further to also bring in that one player or two who can be groomed in Mikel's shadow for a while before Mikel finally leaves the scene. Russia 2018 may be his last world cup but will not certainly be his last tournament... mark my words. wink

Mikel will be at Afcon 2019 leading this team. #100% Certainty. He is just 30.... I predict he has 3 more years at least to give to the Super Eagles.

Yeah.... party on friday... well still not an issue. They just won a game same friday and had a light workout on Saturday plus time off to chill and relax... ANS eh... their ameboism+aprokoism is too much... wanna distort the picture of the team's focus by using the silly click bait headline reading "Danger looming".... mehn... I just dey look them... angry

Light workouts, time off to chill and relax because instead of resting, they were partying all night.

Super Eagles To Train At 7pm Tonight, Stay At Hilton Yaounde
By Nurudeen Obalola in Yaounde

The Super Eagles will have their main training session here in Yaounde on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Nigerian team are billed to arrive in Yaounde around noon today after Friday’s stunning 4-0 win over Cameroon in Uyo.

The victory put the Super Eagles seven points clear of the struggling Indomitable Lions after three games in Russia 2018 World Cup African qualifying Group B.

Zambia are second with four points after their 3-1 victory on Saturday over Algeria, who have only one point.

“The Nigerian team will train at the main pitch on Sunday from 7pm,” the Director of Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo, Mete Timothee, told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“They can also have light training at the annex if they want to. But the main pitch is for them from 7pm.”

Meanwhile, Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed that the Super Eagles will be staying at the five-star Hilton Yaounde, away from the Lions base of Monte Febe Hotel.

The second leg of the double-header is scheduled for 7pm (6pm) on Monday night at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo here in Yaounde.

Yeah me too, I thought that they would have learnt from past experiences as professional footballers that such “orgies” can negatively affect their performances on the pitch of play. Such a wrong time for such indulgence, there are other meaningful ways to celebrate. Anyway, the grace of God is sufficient unto them.

It is pertinent to stress that while the level of partying is unknown, it likely stretched ino early morning and rendered the next day half-useless in terms of body metabolism.

Two world cup qualifiers in the space of four days against a perenial arch-rival is not a Sunday league event. It requires the highest level of professionalism, discipline and sobriety.

Talent alone is no longer enough to be among the best at the highest level of sports. Discipline is a very vital component. Ronaldinho, Robinho, Adriano etc provide verifiable inference.

They can party as much as they want after the qualifiers...oh wait, they won't...you know why? that behaviour won't be tolerated by their clubs.

We can drop it but not defend poor behavior by our players.

Even in the Bible when David (or was it Jonathan... saul's son) broke God's command to not take bread from the temple found on the ark of the covenant, He was excused. God cut him some slack...

The people even spoke up for him... know why? because Moments before that... he had just led them to victory over their enemies... he singlehandedly won the day for them. God spared his life and the priests would not punish him. But ofcos such mistake was not to be repeated but as reward for his bravery in battle, that one mistake was overlooked and even forgotten.

These boys will learn eventually... They have a leader in Mikel... I am sure he is talking to them and reminding them of many more battles to come after this. There will be more WC Qualifiers and Afcons to fight for and it is this young generation that will have to carry it on. Mikel will tell them something like...

"....have your party now... no wahala... but I tell you this.. this is not going to be a recurring pattern because we have to set an example of discipline and focus for even younger players that will come after we the leaders are gone and the mantle of leadership falls to you...."

See.. Sometimes... you have to cut people some slack and at the same time pass the message of truth, focus and discipline across... it is more effective than being a Hitler of discipline and disrupting the team happiness in the long run.

Moses, Mikel and Ighalo are already on yellow cards, with Ighalo picking from Friday's game and Mikel and Moses from the previous qualifiers. So they should try and avoid bookings from the next game to elude being barred from the game against Zambia.

EZENWA DID NOT DISAPPOINT NPFL GOALKEEPERS, SAYS OLORUNLEKE
By Samuel Ahmadu

The former youth international is pleased with the performance of the Super Eagles man following the country's victory over Cameroon on Friday

Former Nigeria U20 goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke has hailed the performance of goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa in Nigeria's 4-0 triumph over Cameroon.

Ezenwa was in goal for Gernot Rohr's men, and following his heroics against the Indomitable lions, the Akwa United man says the FC Ifeanyi Ubah player did not disappoint his home-based folks.

"Even a blind person would see how great and outstanding he was today [against Cameroon]," Olorunleke told Goal .

"Personally, I will rate him 100/100 and I'm very happy for him because yesterday I was with him at their hotel and we talked and thankfully what I told him worked out and happened.

"He did not disappoint us [NPFL goalkeepers] at all. I will tell him how great he performed today and he should keep it up.

"He should put today's performance behind him and remain focused for there are still lots do in his front. His confidence in cutting aerial balls was superb.

"As a goalkeeper, the way you handle the first ball that comes to you would determine how perfect a match would be for you.

"So, I'll say his first save in the first half brought him the confidence he needed. So all thanks to God as I look forward to seeing him do well in subsequent games."

Esin: Eagles Must Defy Any Hostile Reception In Yaounde
By James Agberebi

Former Nigeria international Etim Esin has warned the Super Eagles not to expect the best of reception from Cameroon in the reverse fixture of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers doube-header in Yaounde on Monday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

In the first leg played on Friday in Uyo, goals from Odion Ighalo, John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho, secured an emphatic 4-0 win against the African champions.

Recollecting the events that took place in the 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifier second leg in Yaounde, Esin who was in action for the Eagles that lost 1-0 to a Francois Oman-Biyik goal, he said:”The Eagles should not expect the best of receptions because the Cameroonians would do everything to beat us in Yaounde,” Esin told completesportsnigeria.com .

“I remember when we played them in 1989, right from the airport to the match day, there was nothing like friendliness from the Cameroonians. Eventually they won which knocked us out of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.”

The 1987 Flying Eagles U-20 World Cup star however stated that with the kind of performance Super Eagles put up on Friday, the team can come back with a positive result.

“But with what the players did on Friday, if they galvanise themselves, at least, they can get a draw.”

And reflecting on the 4-0 win against the five-time African winners, Esin attributed it to unity in the squad.
He said:”Team work and team spirit really worked for the team. And the selection was on merit. The Chinese-based players proved that even though they are not in Europe, are still important to the team.

“Looking at the depth of the squad, if people like (Kelechi) Iheanacho and (Ahmed) Musa can come from the bench that means we have a good squad.

“Ighalo’s goal was very vital because if the first half had ended goalless, it would have given the Cameroonians confidence going into the second half.”

Hitler of descipline lol... Oga u just dey talk like say u dey camp with Mikel etc.. Even Mikel is fallible. Let's not make him a god now.. Let's not lie to ourselves, that win sweet all of us well well.. So some of us are throwing away logic because we are still basking in that euphoria. Ok now wake up to reality. like I've been saying we have not qualified yet. So that your analogy don't come in. When the battle is won U can quote that scripture..this is far from disciplinarian matter.. This is teaching focus until the deed is done. Lessons they will have to learn as professionals..

Leave attacks. You find it difficult putting a point without launching an attack. First of all, I am a disciplined person, especially when I have a goal ahead of me.

I have watched Nigerian football so long to understand the negative effects of this. One reason I find Uyo an unstable ground for the National team.

Remember how Rohr made the players stay at Abuja before the game so he can monitor them.

They have a World Cup qualifiers against Cameroun. Not some exam paper or test. Millions of Nigerians are counting on them to seal the ticket in the next game. Partying is totally wrong.

If you want to organize sluts for them, good for you. As for me, we are far from where we need to be. Party after the second leg. Not when you have a tie that can qualify the team for the next World Cup.

Lessons they will have to learn as professionals..
who go qualify go qualify. It is their careers at stake not yours, last last if we no qualify, you will feel bad for one month and then go back to your life. It will not affect you or your life like it will affect them

I think they are in better positions to decide what is good for themselves and their careers than anyone on this thread, but they appreciate your concern

And who is defending poor behavior if I may ask?

Read through my comment well. As a professional, there are things that you should take note of and work with. This is not even about what the Bible says as regards it, it has to do with your performance on the pitch!

Even in the Bible, it says “Do not spend your strength on women...”in Proverbs 31:3. This is a crucial games to decide the Nation's fate as regards the world cup. and like I said, I expected them to have learnt from this as professionals. You are partying while the Cameroonians are holding serious training sessions. It is not everything that you depend on a “leader” to direct, show or advice you, there are decisions that you should know that are worth taking at a particular time especially regards your profession.

And as I said, the grace of God is sufficient unto them, because I have come to understand that God's grace is made perfect in our weaknesses.

Same way King David was wrong naa.... same way we all have been wrong too. The team was in super euphoric mood and some lost their heads and went over the bar with excitement and celebrations.... These guys are not saints!! What they did was wrong but that should not be overflogged as if anyone have not made mistakes.

Let us have perspective for once and stop forming Hitler of discipline. I don't encourage indiscipline and I come from a disciplined home. I don't do parties too... but I have learnt to have perspective in life. To not always act judgmental...

We have never beaten African Champs 4-0 in well over two decades even.... Cameroun just suffered their biggest loss in a very long while... Not even Our First Golden Generation beat Cameroun this silly or humbled an African Champion team in this manner. Perspective guys!!!!

Some of the players lost their heads with over excitement... some thought they were dreaming... let this mistake pass. They will learn. Mikel and Balogun will handle them better next time I hope.

Right now... we have a game tomorrow. That is where our talks should be directed at and not some exaggerated reports from ANS. We have landed in Yaounde. Mistake made... and I don't like the fact they partied but let's move on. Focus guys! that is all I ask...

TheGoodJoe:

What they did was wrong. Simple. No need cutting slack with not reoccurring. Wrong is wrong. Finito.

It's ANS etc job to report. It's ours to react. But like I've always maintained I don't do this because I think they come here to read our comments. I'm sure they don't. So why should I take all these seriously. If they do not win on Monday I will be tempted to atribute the loss to this behavior. If they win, I will go get my girls and celebrate as well hahaha

Modified
And of course u can join in

TheGoodJoe:

Leave attacks. You find it difficult putting a point without launching an attack. First of all, I am a disciplined person, especially when I have a goa ahead of me.

Not when you have a tie that can qualify the team for the next World Cup.
millions of Nigerians will not die if they lose.

If it is partying for four hours that will make them lose, so be it..

It is their loss, just like it is my paper to fail. Abi, you think I don't have people depending on me to pass exams?

It is similar logic, you just won't see it as disciplinarian wey you be.

It is your beliefs that makes you hold this idea that what they did was wrong, so pray tell, how can I not 'attack' your person? Did I not use myself as an example? Is that not bringing in my personality as an example?.

Life is not that serious, they cannot comman die because they have game. Is it your game?

And as professional footballers, don't you think they should know about this more than any of us who are nonprofessional footballers??

And again... Let them learn. They have made the mistake but I am damn sure they know what is at sake more than any of us.

This was the same way most people here were screaming about how we were revealing a little of our training sessions via OGN and claiming that the Camerounians were seriously preparing and all that and doing so in secret... yet they came down here "4-Nothing"

Abeg... let us have perspective and focus on the needful. Let us not overflog this. What is wrong is wrong but also The Happiness and Flow of a team is far more important than forming 100% saint... Even Jesus didn't condone nonsense yet he used wisdom to reach out and correct mistakes made by even his own disciples. Overflogging this won't work.
