NFF pays Eagles full bonus, begins preparations for Zambia

The Nigeria Football Federation has opted to pay players and officials of the Super Eagles the full match bonus for Monday’s crunchy 2018 FIFA World Cup encounter against the Lions of Cameroon in Yaounde, even though the tie ended in a draw.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick disclosed this to the team on board the ARIK Air Bombadier CRJ 1000 aircraft that flew the Nigerian delegation back from Yaounde on Tuesday morning.

Excited players and officials applauded as Pinnick insisted it was just reward for a masterclass output by the Nigerian squad over the two legs of the most anticipated fixture of Group B.

“When the draw was made last year, people said ours was the Group of Death. But you have stayed very much alive with scintillating performances and done the nation very proud.”

The Member of CAF Executive Committee also disclosed on Tuesday morning that preparations for next month’s big encounter against the Chipolopolo of Zambia, at which the Super Eagles are highly expected to pick the World Cup ticket, has started in earnest.

“Even before the conclusion of this second match against Cameroon in Yaounde, we had started the arrangements for the match against Zambia.

The Chairman of Organizing Committee (NFF 1st VP, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi) willtravel to Uyo this week to see Governor Udom Emmanuel ofAkwa Ibom State and they willgo through the check –list together.

“Nothing will be left to chance. It is a very big match, and the way things have turned out against Cameroon,it is now an even bigger match than the ones we played against Cameroon. There must be no room for error.”

Why do we want Shehu out of the first XI for goodness sake?! What Crime did he commit?! Aina is comfortable also as a LB, but we ain't talking about him replacing Echiejile. Why?!

Shehu is solid offensively as well as defensively for the Team. He's covering his Position excellently but Aina that has not represented Eagles at any Level must replace him?!

You must keep testing your players but on merit. When players show consistent quality in thier clubs and in top leagues. Your cannot ignore them. We must keep improving nobody is a landlord.

We must test Aina at RB to see how good he is. If he is better then he plays and or we then have good quality cover.

We need very quickly to find a natural left footed player for the LB position.

The only person that comes to mind at the moment for me is Seyi Ojo Liverpool fc.

Joebie:
Your Ronaldo example even supports my position. Ronaldo can play as an 11. Seen him cut in from there to score.. Seen him make crosses also during match time.

Ndidi started out and excelled as a CB. Was converted to an LB at first at Genk before he was moved to DM.. And this has increased his value..

Victor Moses probably will be on loan today if not that he showed that he could be an al round player. Conte did not just experiment but he saw it Moses. Today that decision has not only made him indispensable player at Chelsea, but has made him a better player for SE. Something many of us fail to realize is that regular game time and the overload of roles Moses has at Chelsea has made playing as a winger a piece of cake -- reason for his ever flowing energy.

As regards changing player positions, club coaches make those decisions for several reasons, some of which are:

1. The player deminstrating dynamism in the field of play.

2. The competition they face from their teammates for a specific position or several positions

3. The several positions thier teammates can play.

4. The ineffective of a certain player who had a dedicated role.

5. The dynamism in modern football as seen during match time, players hardly play one role these days.

Applying this to the case of Mikel, Mou may have seen his other strengths. At that point in time it could be he faced stiff competition in the AM role, or it could be other midfielders could not adapt to the makalele role like Mikel could, leaving Mou to that option, else Mikel would have been forced to sit it out in bench until he had his chance to outwit his contenders at the AM. Or who knows may have sought greener pastures at another club. Mou may have helped his career after all. We can never tell what could have happened. Mikel is what he is today because of his versatility. And we can use that to our advantage sometimes.

Modified
Consider Balogun's darting runs yesterday against Cameroon. Situations like that will make u realize there is more to a player than a specific position. Believe I had seen that potential in Moses long before he was converted to a full back.

good points. But it doesn't change the fact that players have 'natural' positions. Most especially players from Africa. We don't teach football in africa as you'll have in europe we play and grow into it.

Most players who have played two or more positions will tell you that they prefer one to the other simply because they feel at home playing in such a position...

You have technical nous.

Age grade competition is not senior professional football. That's past glory.

Iheanacho does not have what it takes to play as an outright AM. It's simply not his game as it stands. He is even yet to make waves at Leicester.

Time will tell.

First and foremost Aina is presently playing in the Championship, and talent-wise he's not better than Shehu at International Level though.

We need Competitions in the Team.... yes, but making it look like Shehu is under-performing and needs to be immediately replaced is uncalled for. He always give his best for the National Team even while Fasting.

The Position that's begging for a Replacement is the LB, which I believe Aina can also conveniently play.

However, is Seyi Ojo a LB?! The last time I checked he's a Winger. Has he ever played as a LB at any Level?! Fans are crying for a natural LB, yet you are selling to us a Winger.

I stand to be corrected Bro, Seyi Ojo has never played as a LB for any Club before, you can paste his Profile to show us his Stats as a LB. He's a good Winger who can play in either Wings but as a Fullback.... capital No!

Nope Keshi's team played against Niger Republic, where Aaron Samuel and Ahmed Musa scored for us to win 3-1, I remember the fans invading to the pitch too. Keshi got his first sack after the win, got reinstated and ultimately Omeruo (courtesy Ranti grin) got him fired after the next match against SA.

no development on that. Though it was earlier slated for Nov. But I doubt it feasibility. Don't forget we'll be playing our last WCQ match in November here in africa and FIFA rules debars a team from playing two matches on diff continents in that span of time.
