As for whether you would have problem in future visa application after serving the 18 months ban, my answer is, although, there is no official application of any further punishment, but yet, the impact of the ban will always have negative influence on your future visa application as it will always remain in your travel history which you are required to declare whenever you are faced with the question: "Have you ever been refused entry, removed or asked to leave another country?"
Appealing the decision is your best bet: but remember, since the purpose of the visa is now invalid (as the school has cancelled your admission), you should not be appealing against the decision to cancel your visa, but rather appeal the ban.

I don't think the embassy can tell you to appeal, they can only inform you that you are allowed to appeal the decision.
Unfortunately, no one can advice you without knowing the documents that were involved and their deficiencies.

Though it is not impossible, but it would be hard to get her a visa given that she does not seem to have something to return to Nigeria for, i mean, something to represent her tie to Nigeria.
Now, being an extended family member, her relationship with the invitee is not somewhat that would be considered bona-fide, it would be different if she was her mother, father or sibling.
To be successful in inviting and obtaining a visa for a distant relative who cannot sponsor herself (especially if the person is not considered aged), the invitee must be considered a person of imposing calibre that merits trust and overwhelming capability: but if the invitee is just a regular person, that task may be difficult.
If however you want to go ahead with the visa application, be careful what she says is her reason for the travel, she may be refused if she states explicitly that she is travelling to mind the kids because, that activity may be considered as a job and a potential reason to want to stay illegally in the US.

If you Aunt is advanced in age, let your sister send her an invitation letter claiming she will sponsor her trip and that she wants her to come spend time with her and the children . My sister went to UK in 2015 without showing her bank account, she was invited by one of her husband younger brother. I think it was because of her age anyway (50+)

Being informed that you are entitled to appeal is not the same thing as being told to appeal.

Well, the main issue that i see here is the sponsor that you presented, it is not an ideal thing to present an "uncle" or anybody who is not your parents, sibling or spouse as a sponsor: this is perhaps what they meant by insufficient documentation, which may mean that the document provided in regard to sponsor is not sufficient as the sponsor is not deemed appropriate.

I was in this exact situation couple of years ago, don't appeal, it is going to cost you time and the money you don't have. Visit their website and make sure you thick out every single doc asked.

Appeal does not cost as long as you are doing it yourself and it does not cost time either because your passport is in your possession to take another route pending when they reply you. You can only say that if the person is reapplying to the same embassy which the probability of giving him visa is 50-50 since he was once denied by the same embassy and he didn't bother correcting it by appealing.

Stop deducing. I have also been denied and I appealed. A lot of people have been denied and appealed by correcting the error pointed out and was granted. Is all about giving it a try. Stop asking him not to appeal, it is not wise.
