femianski:shey they said last time that they lost to our team because their players were starstruck? Rather than train there, I suggest they take their players to EPL games around England and maybe La Liga games, maybe when they seed the players in those leagues, they won't be so start struck October seems so far away....I just want the foolishness to stop. Imagine that one on their FB page saying they can hit Nigeria with 3 goals and 'bury us'....if that is not the height of delusion, I don't know what is The good thing is, such talk usually leads the team to play rush rush game and you can catch them on the counter. I fully believe this game will pan out much like the game against Cameroon 5 Likes 1 Share |

Mujtahida: I think it falls back to the coaching crew. They need to source for a left back by scouting both locally and abroad. Also with a little creativity, we can solve the dilemma. By the way Lopetegui of Spain experimented with Pedro as a right back and he played well. It just takes intuition and insight. Just as Conte did with Moses Victor. |

Nigeria/Ghana: Sofoluwe Counsels Home-Based Eagles As Team Depart to Accra By Alex Monye Former Super Eagles star, Yisa Sofuluwe has advised the home-based players billed to represent the country in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Championship to use the competition to play their way into the full national team. The WAFU Championship, meant for only players in their local leagues, is scheduled to kick off on Saturday. Noting that the championship came at a time when the team have already qualified for the 2018 CHAN in Kenya, Sofoluwe said the WAFU Cup would also afford the coaches the opportunity to blend the squad for next year's tourney, as well as discover more players that would be invited to jostle for shirts in the Super Eagles. He said the domestic players needed to participate in the WAFU tournament to get the exposure their career required, adding that players whose clubs have not played continental games would have the chance of testing their skills against other teams. Sofuluwe urged the players picked for the WAFU championship to work hard to excel in Ghana, saying that outshining other teams in West Africa would go a long way to prove that the Nigerian league have quality players. He also advised the Eagles' coaches to use the WAFU championship to expose more domestic goalkeepers. "The players invited for the WAFU championship should understand that playing in WAFU is another opportunity for them to prove themselves and have the chance of getting future Eagles call up. With the standard of football in Africa, I believe the WAFU team would not have an easy ride over any team in Ghana. "The players have to be psychologically and mentally prepared to excel in the tourney. Victory in WAFU would help to raise the standard of the Nigerian league," he said. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye has revealed that the 18-man squad for the WAFU campaign would depart to Ghana today, noting that NFF has promised to give the players the needed backing. Meanwhile, head coach of the home-based Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf has selected goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye, and 16 other players for competition, which kicks off on Saturday and ends on September 24. Among the players are midfielder Rabiu Ali and forward Kingsley Eduwo, who both scored as the Eagles prevailed 2-0 over Benin Republic in Kano to qualify for next year's African Nations Championship. Others are defenders Eze Stephen, Chima Akas, Osas Okoro and Emmanuel Ariwachukwu, and midfielders Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Samuel Mathias and Afeez Aremu. 1 Like |

Nigeria: Algeria Coach Tips Super Eagles to Qualify After losing to Zambia 0-1 in Constantine on Tuesday night, Algeria coach Lucas Alcaraz dismissed the chances of the Chipolopolos beating the Super Eagles to clinch the World Cup ticket. The Spanish-born coach submitted that Nigeria still has the momentum after being forced to a 1-1 draw in Yaounde, by the Indomitable Lions. The Super Eagles remain unbeaten in the World Cup qualification series, they will entertain Zambia next month in Uyo and they are expected to clinch the ticket with either a win or draw. Nigeria top the group with 10 points, Zambia has seven, with Cameroon and Algeria already ruled out of reckoning. "Zambia has a balanced squad with a blend of youngsters but I don't think they can make it to the World Cup in Russia. I know it was an interesting result in Cameroon, which gives hope to other teams, but still the momentum is with Nigeria. "Zambian coach [Wedson Nyirenda] has a good team but I think he should concentrate on building a strong team with the focus on qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. I believe the Qatar target is attainable if they can maintain the same performance," Alcaraz said. http://allafrica.com/stories/201709070131.html 1 Like |

safarigirl:National teams don't play week in and week out. Its a FIFA window that must be well utilised in my opinion, if you say bring in few new players to play with the established ones, Its fine by me but should not be a match for complete rookies. We don't really have much time for experimenting as some of us think. Rohr knows most of the world cup bound players if we qualify. Why not use it as an opportunity for the team to play more together to form a stronger unit. That's my point. 1 Like |

adegwurulez: You don't seem to get my emphasis. I am not advocating dropping Shehu but increasing competition, it may be that in the absence of a true left back that Aina can do a good job at LB in the short term. However, I really want to see Aina play RB and see if he is better and or as good as Shehu. Whatever, the outcome let the best man play. I have watched Aina since he was 16 and he has played RB and LB but his preferred position is RB, he is currently within weeks the best RB in the Championship. It could be he may bring more to the RB position than Shehu, we simply do not know . 4 Likes |

Goke7: We should employ a coach like Emmanuel Amunike to run a supplementary Super Eagles team. Another company can support this. Invite players who are close to break into the team and play Friendlies with U23 and U21 sides of other teams, both local and foreign during the international breaks. This will promote belonging of players who can not be invited and give the National team handlers the chance of seeing the players closely. Sometimes, the teams can camp together in Abuja just like Siasia's U23, Manu Garba's U20 and Amunike's U17 teams camped together. I remember Amokachi's Super Eagles B team played Ghana's U23 team with Rabiu Ali, Joseph Nathaniel, Mfon Udoh and Emem Eduok in the team. This exposure led to Rabiu Ali and Joseph Nathaniel getting call up to the Super Eagles main team. This will make it less risky to try new players and also give the National team handler a bigger pool to source players. |

You just started watching Nigeria or what? You think Ezenwa is new to the SE? He is our FC in the CHAN eagles, manned the goalie for the eagles before, ola aina is a newbie, haven't even been tested in a friendly, not to talk of a do and die affairs against the Zambians. Abeg I no wan talk plenty. I'm not saying he's bad, I am sorry I wouldn't pitch him against the Zambians, maybe he can come in as a sub but not to start ahead of Ederson for now. jotey: |

tglobal: You may have the impression that i am so far away from Nigeria and i visit when the moon turns blue. You would be far away from the truth. What use to happen in the past almost whole-scale was that people would shade up to 7- 10 years from their ages, no questions asked. It doesn't mean its not happening but no so common anymore. Indeed things have improved absolutely a resounding yes. Can it be stopped NO, until we have automatic data capture of births. Age cheating is not restricted to Nigeria alone. Its across the continent and even in some South American countries. Age cheating adds incredible value and demand for a player. It is the difference between success and failure, a huge big multi million pay out or just thousands. Without age cheating some players are simply not marketable. Now we know, where there is a will there is a way. I really do not have to go into that, there is no value in washing dirty linen. Nonetheless, the European football leagues are so age discriminatory and obsessed. That they created this mess. I have met quite a few owners of so called academies in Lagos and Benin and been too quite a few as well. So i will leave it at that. The bits in bold, I doubt. |

TheGoodJoe:Wow,another super suggestion from The GOODJOE.Totally agree we can do it,just imagine players like Dennis Bonaventure,Onyekuru,Olayinka even Dessers in the team.It will also help us cap some of our foreign born players who's been playing with English youth teams like Seyi Ojo,Ejaria,Tomori e.t.c.But the big question now is the company to sponsor such? 2 Likes 1 Share |

TheGoodJoe:Would it not be better for Aina to play on the right and so bring competition to the team so much so that with Aina and Shehu as players for the right we will be rest assured. The challenge, real hard challenge is to find a left back. |

somehow:Hope u remember that Sunday Olishe came into Super Eagles as a newbie and walked straight into d XI of super eagles till he left d stage. Aina is a highly talented defender which I believe has it all to break into present eagles team that is having average fullbacks. Thanks for Shehu yeoman job against Cameroon and should thank his star for late paper switched of Aina, ask anybody in camp,Rohr was ready to start Aina against Cameroon. When u see rookie that's good and ready to go u don't mind playing him. As people are suggesting is better to leave Shehu in that role coz he had a good match against Cameroon but Ola should slug it out against Echiejele and let see better player. Pls go and watch Echiejele against Zambia or against Cameroon and u w know that Echiejele needs to buckle up. 3 Likes |

soetanoreoluwa:That's the more reason why Shehu - if he keeps his form- will be going to Russia cos he offers the coach so much options. Our defence is the underbelly of our team. Even Oyibo wall needs good back ups. There's nothing more thrilling than a team where the second 11 is as good as the first 11. That's where Germany is at right now. |

I read through the Zambians facebook comment and it was very funny, they were just shouting under 20s, and seem pretty confident too, I think one of the main reason they think they will beat us is the fact that SA defeated us some months back. |

Big challenge for shehu to be candid... I see Aina taking the slot soon... And also according to the drills in camp... Aina was made to play LB and he perform well... |
