Rxpetite:Speak for your tribe and not "all africans". White men didn't "introduce" clothes to my fathers and they weren't "running around naked". As a Yorùbá man, my fathers had their own way of life and clothing before the white men came. They developed their own sense of fashion and were semi-civilised before any gringo stepped into their lands in his boots. They were sophisticated such that their clothes were even different and all pieces had distinctive names and functions. They made their own unique wear called Aso Oke from Etu, Petuje, Sanyaan, Alari and so on before the white men came with three-piece suits and smelly socks. Men's wear include: Buba, Esiki, Sapara, Dandogo, Agbada Gbariye, Sulia, Oyala, Kembe, Gbanu, Sooro, Kamu and so on. Caps include: Gobi, Tinko, Abeti Aja, Alagbaa, Bentigoo, Oribi, Onide, Labankaada and so on. Our mothers wore Iro, Buba, Gele, Iborun, Ipele, Sinmi, Tobi and so on. Accessories were mainly beads and colourful decorative feathers. The beads were Iyun, Akun, Lagidigba and so on. Either you're just an ignorant African who lives in a whitewashed world or just one of the many unfortunate victims of obscurantism set up by the whites. Orientate yourself about your race and stop the ignorance. |
