BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK
SEP 09, 2017

President Muhammadu Buhari and some of his top aides yesterday met secretly with Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State to inform him that Mr. Buhari intends to run again for the Presidency as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

A senior Presidency source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated that the decision to inform Mr. El-Rufai was taken because the governor was being touted as Mr. Buhari’s replacement in the event that the president cannot run for a second term in 2019 due to ill health.

During yesterday's meeting, President Buhari and his close associates asked Mr. El-Rufai to take up the role of honorary adviser to the presidential campaign which they said had already kicked off subtly through a series of propaganda initiatives since President Buhari returned from a prolonged medical treatment in London for an undisclosed illness.

President Buhari and his team also asked Mr. El-Rufai to prepare for a second term as governor so as to strengthen his credentials to run for the Presidency in 2023, a projection that is unlikely considering that the Presidency would likely be zoned to another geographical zone by the party.

APC sources have stated that President Buhari would be spared any form of internal party primaries should he seek reelection. They have also hinged their strategy on avoiding a hectic and bruising presidential campaign by spotlighting Mr. Buhari’s so-called record for transparency, integrity, and simplicity.

When Mr. El-Rufai emerged from the meeting with President Buhari, he took a swipe at the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Jumai AlHassan, who recently openly declared her intention to back former Vice President Abubakar Atiku for the Presidency in 2019, even if Mr. Buhari was in the race. Mr. El-Rufai told reporters that he had warned President Buhari against appointing Ms. AlHassan as a minister

Its better this government concentrates on delivering dividends of democracy to the populace to retain power come 2019 irrespective of who the candidate is.

APC don't have more than a year again to convince us, by 2018 the political atmosphere will not allow anybody to see any other work they may claim to be doing by then. Cabinet reshuffle is long overdue to change the game plan for this government.

I believe by El Rufai seeking presidency in 2023 they meant Vice President.

Buhari for 2019?

Hmmm.

Na wah o....

Well, Nigeria z a place whr anybody can dream anything and work for anything...Who gets what and how is a different ball game....no honour, no shame...

The old man shud respect himself but he will re contest as things stand now. Buhari's presidency has not satiated our thirst n hunger for change ....after all, our country's quest for change continues beyond his presidency that obviously can't solve the barrage of our problems.

This first term has not been wonderful and corrupt practices in the govt r under reported or ignored. His second tenure will not be fun at all and guys lyk Nnamdi Kalu will be decisively dealt with once there z no more election to contest by d Oga at d top

Buhari has not disclosed his illness to anybody but his wife. I suspect only his doctor knows, his wife may have an idea and of course MI6 / CIA through illegal means. Nobody has a legal right to ask for medical details. You can steal the info if you have the capability.

Even though you call these people his handlers, the power distance is too great. They are mostly ex military. I don't know any of them with the courage to ask; "Oga, wetIn dey worry you sef"?.
If the secrecy about Buharis health is too much for you then don't vote for him. For me his health is personal and irrelevant

I was there
alagba333:

Kwankwaso and tambuwal are better options

Truth be told, after Buhari the most popular candidate from northern Nigeria is Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Let me tell you most youths from north now prefer Kwankwaso to Buhari because of his youthful age, beside that, the development he brought to Kano during his reign as a governor is worthy of celebrating.

For me, I will give my vote to kwankwaso anyday anytime he declares regardless of the party. APC has to handle kwankwaso with care because if he decamped to PDP it will be a hard task to defeat kwankwaso especially it Buhari is not contesting.

Well, if Buhari contests in 2019, he would definitely win but the country would then become uninhabitable for a great number of upwardly mobile and progressive people who know Buhari has nothing to offer but anti corruption. This would result in mass migration for a great number of people. Millions have left already and Millions more would leave when it is confirmed that Buhari wins the 2019 polls.

The greater number of these emigrants would be educated Christians weary of the Islamic bent of the government.

May God give us the enablement (both financial and inspirational to escape what is to come). Amen.

This man should respect himself and resign so he can go tend to his declining health. He's obviously no longer healthy enough to handle the demands of the office he occupies. His sycophants are aware of this fact but are too scared to tell him to his face.
