So I have a question for those who have been in the US for a while :

Is it normal that you are been ostracized by the white folks like your classmates . I am not speaking racism, I have white friends and we talk and discuss on the regular but when it comes to like forming a group or having a partner everyone tries to avoid you.

The latest was on our last field trip. Everyone had sitting partners and I was left to sit alone undecided . Even my "so called friends.

Is this a normal experience or it's just me ?

Don't take it personal because it does happen when you are in a new environment, with time you will Begin to get used to them and they will feel more comfortable around you. Many don't warm-up to strangers easily but with time that will change.

Keep a positive mind about things like this else you will isolate yourself even more

New edition of discounted promo offer for GRE and TOEFL is out again for just 15 people and is likely for it to increase above 15. All the 15 applicants will pay 50% while some benevolent poeple on this thread are paying 50% to subsidize it for them but they don't want me to mention their names as usual.

Due to some issues encountered during the previous edition, payment is required before test registration this time around because i am not going to wait for 24 hours anymore before requesting for payment. Enough of all the touching stories. It is not by force to benefit from this discounted promo offer.

It's easy to partake, go to www.ets.org/gre or www.ets.org/Toefl and create your Ets account first. GRE is $205 while Toefl is $180, multiple it by 370 and divide it by 2 to get the 50% of the amount you pay. Make sure you register before sending me login details for the TOEFL or GRE registration.

1. Type of test.
2. User name.
3. Password.
4. Date you want to write the test.
5. Month you want to write the test.
6. Phone number. (please let the phone number be reachable)
7. State you want to write the test.
8. Name of the center you will prefer.
9. Send me pm to give you account details for payment.
10. Notify immediately you send payment
11. the exchange rate is #370 to $1
12. You divide the total cost by 2 to get the 50% rate

I beg of you that want to partake, kindly do the fee calculation very well and don't send me below the fee payment because i will automatically delete you from the offer list and please be sure of your test date and center before sending me your payment and details because i won't call anyone this time around to verify test date and center. I don't want incomplete details to be send to me and to all those sending people my email and phone number kindly notify me first or better still show them this page to send me pm.

N.B This is first come and first serve because i will work on the payment i received first.

Terms and conditions. Payment is required first before test registration in the edition.

God bless the good people behind this. Amen

Hi, I'm quite new here, I don't really know how to reply or quote messages yet but I'm learning.
Is the GRE discount still available please, if yes, how do I go about it?
Thanks in anticipation of a prompt response.

Hi all, does anyone please have a link for UI wes verification process.
Verification notification has been sent since 3rd August but UI is yet to verify.
I called someone at UI records who said it has to pass through student affairs and registrars office before getting to the students records department. It's now at records for almost 2 weeks now according to my findings but they are yet to verify. How do I go about this please?

I do not know about school, what I have done is an internship.

Naturally, people are after their own success and some will probably perceive you as a "diversity candidate" that is just there to fill a quota; I experienced this in my internship. Some would ask ridiculous questions and suggest that I had it much easier getting into the program then they did.

You have to show that you are just as smart as they are. What I did was to put up all my accomplishments on my LinkedIn page and leave some of my stellar professional exam results lying around carelessly; I would also ask well researched and choreographed questions that challenged the instructor. You also have to be friendly and know how to massage egos.

It's a lot, really. But being in school presents you with a prime opportunity to hone these skills as you will be needing them on the job (I am assuming you are doing a masters).

This may be a flash-point in attending schools that are not demographically diverse.
This is one of the reasons i try very much to encourage individualism in Nigeria, the whole notion of "awa awon boys" should be a switch and not a default mode. Solitude can be zen.

Yes joining the NPF is my main reason and I feel that since criminology means the study of crime, it causes and bascially how it can be prevented , having that background knowledge is going to help me excel well in my career, cuppled with the fact that the school which I am applying to use real life case studies to teach criminology student I would have gained enough experience when I eventually come back home to be an officer and also as a communication graduate I would be able to perform effectively only in the PR dept of the force but as a criminology graduate I will be able to perform excellently well in all dept of the force with my background knowledge of criminology. I will PM you now. Thank you for your response
B*LLSHIT!!! B*LLSHIT!!... Sorry if this sounds harsh but it almost very clear that the reality of life in Nigeria is yet to hit you. Do you know how many of my secondary school mates regurgitated crap back then for USAP at walter carrington, well guess what, none of them are back home changing africa or doing whatever the f*ck they were spewing out then. W hat bothers me even more that even more people including you keeps spewing this crap about changing africa, Nigeria, or any god damned agency. News Flash!!, Nigeria does not need you to get comfy overpriced education before you change it. Look dude, if you want to study abroad and become an excellent human being with heightened enlightenment , then go for it, and become the best human being you can be. For now clear all the Nigeria, NPF crap from your head.
PS: Sorry if this sounds insulting, pardon me. sad sad

Hmmm. For the record I am a lady.

First, I am not one of your secondary school mate, we have different visions and aspirations. It's unfair of you to conclude about my career using the people you know, remembere you do not know me.

Second, I never said I want to change anywhere. I only said I feel studying criminology would help me function better in my career. It is my personal opinion.

Third, I never said Nigeria needs me to get overpriced education to make it a better place. I live my life not for Nigeria but I live my life to do what I feel would make me feel achieved at the end of the day. Also, everyone has a way in which they do their own things. Because you don't share in their view doesn't mean their view is worthless or unreasonable.

Fourth, thank you for advising me to become the best human being I can be.

Fifth, Joing the NPF is my dream. I quote "my dream" it would take more than a rant to change it.

Lastly, it doesn't sound insulting, no offense taken.

N.B: you call it comfy overpriced education, I call it getting more knowledge for myself and equipping my self.
Thank you for your response.

But I feel you did digress away from the main reason of my response to @ecoleco
I am not very good at expressing my thoughts, but i will voice my opinion that you should focus on you and leave Nigeria and all its uselessness and troubles to itself. Thousands before you have towed your path and thousands after you will do same. But like the thousands before you, life hits ya right in the face.

@iekene think carefully before taking that advice section in bold.
There's nothing wrong with it. You shouldn't keep quiet when other people are trying to oppress you. This is particularly why I like myself. I can never experience or suffer from inferiority complex.

The problem here is sometimes some Nigerians don't speak up in a certain situation, they like to pretend as if all is well and later blame it on the country they come from. No country in this world is perfect. America too has its own problem. grin

Ok. Please do and talk to your professor. Because he is the one who is gonna determine your score as well as your future in that particular course. Not silly individual who think they are better than you and can discriminate against you. Learning is not only about classroom, is about handling a situation perfectly well. smiley

A British man once told me Africa is home of scammers. I responded by saying clap for yourself. Return the gold and other valuable natural resources you guys stole in Ghana and other African countries and ask your High Commissioners what they are doing in Africa.

This man was astonished, speechless and couldn't say anything further.

What I am saying here is do not let anybody pull you down.

What exactly are you going on about? Who is oppressing him and in what way?

Obviously you do suffer from inferiority complex else people not talking to you shouldn't be seen as an oppression.

Enjoy your studies including the social life, be approachable because sometimes our body language is the hindrance.

In some cases you need to get out of your comfort zone to make friends, get busy in things other than reading books.

Don't let anybody tag you as victim of discrimination or oppression because you are not.

You will be just fine

Good luck!

That's very harsh. Do you really think that there are people who do not plan to go home after their US studies? I bet you there are.

And you clearly hold an opinion that one man cannot make a difference. Nelson Mandela and others who made a difference with their lives would say NO.

1) Check out the MS in IT program at UTEP with specialization in Cybersecurity:
http://catalog.utep.edu/grad/college-of-engineering/computer-science/information-technology-ms/

Requirements for Admission
Applicants must have earned a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited university. Students apply through the Graduate School by submitting an application and the following supporting materials:
Official transcripts of all previous academic work
Official scores on the Gradate Record Exam (GRE)
official scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), if required
Personal Statement of Purpose
Minimum of two letters of recommendation
A CV/resume with evidence of other relevant experience

TOEFL is waived for Nigerian students so you only need to provide the GRE score and their tuition is quite affordable. Applications are currently being accepted for Spring 2018 (January) so if you are interested you need to start right away.

2) Can you afford $9,000 per semester? If yes, then I welcome you to apply to the MS in Cybersecurity program, University of Maryland College Park. They are giving out application fee waivers for those applying to non-thesis based Engineering master's programs for Spring and Fall 2018. But the school fees no be here o (though you should see it as an investment because of good job chances upon graduation where you'll make all that money back). UMD tuition for Cybersecurity (given how hot in demand it is now) is one of the cheapest I've seen for MS in Cybersecurity ($932 per credit compared to as high as $1350 per credit for other schools).

https://advancedengineering.umd.edu/cybersecurity
https://advancedengineering.umd.edu/application-process

Requirements for Admission
Bachelors degree in a relevant field with a GPA of 3.0/4.0 (directly equivalent to 3.0/5.0 Nigerian scale)
GRE is waived (program is non-thesis based, designed for working professionals who intend to move on to the work force upon graduation)
3 letters of recommendation
Official transcripts
TOEFL is waived for Nigerian students
$75 application fee is waived for Spring and Fall 2018 semester applications.
Submitted online application
Statement of purpose
Resume (CV)
Application deadline for Spring 2018 is September 29.

For UMD and UTEP, when applying online you only need to upload a scanned copy of your transcript to apply for admission. After they give you admission, then they will email you to have your undergraduate university forward an official copy to either or both of them (as you wish) before they release your official admission letter. The next step after that would be processing your I-20.

@bigfrancis....please i have been trying to see where the $75 application fee is waived but could not find it. Please help

Hello Good day.

I once posted on part 11 seeking for schools that offers masters in chemistry education in USA with cheap tuition fees and I appreciate all the support and responses.

Now, I have selected some schools in mind who has my course at graduate level which Alcorn state University is one of them and I have registered for GRE which I have started practicing.

Just today when I was surfing through the pages of Alcorn state University Mississippi website, I discovered that GRE isn't a requirement for my course. The only things required are toefl or ielts, 2 recommendedation letter, education license, and my transcript.

The same is applicable to the second school which is my second choice.

Do you still advise that I go ahead with my GRE preparations?, or I should forget about GRE and start practicing for toefl or ielts?.

For the license, I have already applied for it.

Attached is the requirement page of my course in Alcorn.

Thanks as I await your replies.

Hello, do you have a good sponsor? I'm talkng about beyong having a bank statement for embassy. What I mean here is someone to doll out money to support you. If not, you need to take the GRE test and apply to a better school and also get a scholarship.

It's important for you, but don't know what you think though.

Hello good people.

I have a quick question and will appreciate sincere guidance.

So I got a PhD offer in University of Kansas but I'm asked to submit financial statement of $30,194 before I'm issued I-20.

My Grad Coord mentioned that they are working on fellowships for grad students(which I assume would include funding) but she advised that I submit the financial docs first because the fellowship processing might not be consummated until resumption in Jan.

I also spoke with a Nigerian in her 4th year and she was like, just get the document and come over: they'd settle your fees when you're here.

Truth is, I have gotten some money for my first semester but I don't have the $30k balance.
No family member has this amount. Whose statement can I use that wouldn't give me issues at the embassy?

What do you advise good people? How best can I scale this hurdle?
