for clarity and to show that not all Nigerians are pathetic lu.na.tics

.
The Nigerian Navy has only 1 Frigate, the NNS Aradu which is a MEKO 300 class although its current OPERATIONAL READINESS is UNKNOWN.

.
The NIgerian Navy also own two (2) Hamilton class Patrol Cutters that were donated by the United States Coast GUARD. The cutters are more than 60 years old. It is designated as an OPV. They are both currently on naval policing duties off the Gulf of Guinea.

It is armed with only a 76 mm naval gun made by Oto Malera. It is also speculated to have been armed with a 20 mm phalanx close in weapons system (CIWS) made by General Dynamics. Although details remain scarce.

.
The Navy also operate two (2) Stealth OPV from China which are the enlarged version of the Type 056 cprvettes. It is armed with a sole 76 mm naval gun and not much else.
although it is outfitted with a wide range of oil spillage management system

Please disregard all misleading information and endeavor to ignore all FALSE information dealers.

High Endurance Sea Patrol: This is the Nigerian Navy Ship Okpabana. I know your position in the Gulf of Guinea. Navy HQ Abuja can now see you via our R-MACK system. You stand no chance. You are ordered to stop sail immediately for boarding and search. Any form or sign of aggression and I will sink you.

The R-MACK Naval system is more like a network-wide datalink that can connect a naval vessel to a shore based command structure to ease Command and Communications [C2].

It offers real time data transfer between multiple nodes.

It is not a secret weapon to bring down the world.

“OKPABANA is the first Nigerian vessel to have a Regional Maritime Awareness Capability (R-Mack) system on board.
“This system will link back to the NN wider R-Mack network and expand NN’s ability to track and identify vessels throughout the Gulf of Guinea,” he said.

Gentlemen, Patriotic Nigerians are highly coveted human resources acclaimed world wide for contributing immensely to the development, growth and pride of Nigeria in different fields of endeavour.

A case in point is our highly regarded Navy which continues to maximize available assets in defence of Nigeria's maritime domain and territorial integrity whilst awaiting the delivery of more modern platforms in furtherance of Nigeria's domestic and foreign policy objectives.

The Navy currently is one of the largest Navy in Africa with over 200 platforms ranging from agile brown water assets to sophisticated blue water naval patrol capabilities. Very importantly The Nigerian Navy has a large pool of highly trained and skilled officers and men for it's Naval operations.

Among some of the Navy's current vessels is the NNS Okpabana a former US coast guard high endurance vessel received from the US government. These ships entered service about 52 years ago and seen periodic maintenance and refurbishment in it's years of service. The US currently still operate 4 of these vessels. Other countries also has received these Cutters: Bangladesh 2, Vietnam 1, Phillipines 3 and Nigeria 2.

Upon transfer from the US government the NNS Opkabana along with its sister ship NNS Thunder in Nigerian service the Nigerian Navy invested millions of dollars for refurbishments, weapons and processing systems emplacements according to it's own specifications and classified them Frigates in Nigerian service. They are overtly armed with Oto Melara 76 heavy medium range guns and CIWS for anti-air and anti-surface warfare and capable of ASW. Onboard it carries a R-MACK system connected to the wider Nigerian Navy R-MACK system both shore based and sea based that enable it detect and track in real time all vessels within the Gulf of Guinea region. They are larger than most flagships in Africa today and extended sailing range of any at 14,000 nautical miles or 26,000km. It can navigate Africa on one full tank without need of refueling and has one of the best seakeeping duties of 45 days endurance. It's a behemoth. Before the end of the Cold War they were so heavily armed since it has the advantage of been able to take on new weapon systems and were considered highly formidable for war. The end of the Cold War saw a reduction in weapon emplacements. In event of war the Nigerian Navy has the advantage of this option. Built for long term use they are expected to serve another decade in Nigerian service.

The Nigerian Navy also has the Chinese built modern P18-N class of warships with digitized and automated systems. They are stealth and heavily armed for self defence and projection of measurable force. Going forward the refit of the Frigate Aradu has not been foreclosed though the wisdom in the huge expenditure of some 250 million dollars for it's refit has been questioned. The Nigerian Navy anticipates future deliveries of SSV, LST, LPD, Frigate and submarine vessels to cover it's Navy medium term acquisition plans. Presently the Nigerian Navy is the most powerful Navy in the Gulf of Guinea and continues to maintain that balance of power in the seas, in the air and on the shores come what may.

Watch this space for fair and articulate analysis of military power balance in the region.

If everyone ignored this guy maybe this thread could go back to being normal or at least sane again.

Focck man how do you type all this crap and make it sound important ?
Those OPVs don’t have any anti aircraft capabilities neither do they possess anti submarine warfare capabilities.

Give it a rest, aren’t you tired of making a fool out of yourself?

You have always been apologetic to our South African friends on this thread. You massage their ego like your life depends on it. You're so unpatriotic sometimes I even wonder what drives you to do such. In case you don't know you're the direct opposite of Covert1 in this thread. By the way, WTF do you mean by "you are not the only mad man in this thread" or what fukkery did you even typed up there ?
While I never subscribe to Covert1 incessant boasting of ineffective and nonexistent Nigeria Military prowess, I find it puzzling your anti Nigeria stance.
Undoubtedly, SA army, navy and air force are better equipped than us. They have all the cool military toys we need. But they are sister and allied country of Nigeria and invasion only exist in the weirdest dreams of some weirdo.
However, fact is Nigeria Army is no sissy either. They will any potential invader, no matter how sophisticated, a run for their money. Fact!

Mmmh

I know this is not directed to me. However I find this post rather obsured.

So if someone doesn't agree on something he's then labeled less patriotic? Sympathetic to the opposing country? How many times did I personally went the opposite direction against guys like MikeCZA and 61mech on SA defence issues? How many times do I tell jln115 to ignore certain posts and ssaengine doing the same to me..... Just because he's not blowing Henry240's and Covert1's horns it doesn't make him less patriotic, it simply means he sees through the light cover some people hide behind in the name of patriotism.

Facts & Patriotism: People can be pained which is since evident for the fact they can't accept being second or third places in Africa. Typing f00lery as some do it's their wahala. Using open source info to make judgement is one thing. Making analysis based on privileged knowledge is another. There are no equals from Population to Economy to Commensurate Military Strength. Why dabble and haggle with states that don't even measure the size of the Yoruba empire in south-west Nigeria or the Benin empire in the mid-west etcetera. There's only one position for first in Africa and it's Nigeria. Time done appeasing third rate powers.

You need to go back and see most of his posts here.
You don't go about rubbishing jln's point just to please Nigerians. Do you? You caution him when he deviates with respect. Just go back to his first comment in this page when he was saying "there are some Nigerians in this thread that are not pathetic lun.atic". Does he has to go to such length to disprove Covert incessant ranting? Can't he be civil? Rather ge indirectly insinuated that some Nigerians in this thread are "pathetic lunati.c". I find his statement disrespectful and morally wrong. And this is not his first time of doing such only that many chose to ignore him.

That's a likely-hood as i don't think we got any more DA42 ISR planes apart from the 3 units we already have.

If we got more, that would still be most welcome.
