Kotlin is easy but I don't find it readable and the worst is you will be using Java library.
Codes are shorter but to me it's a little complex.

Google ionic/cordova and angular2 for that.

kotlin is a little complex but short codes than java and you can't be very good in kotlin without knowledge of Java. So learn java and then android app dev using kotlin or android studio

I think if you have knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, then you should jump on Ionic and Cordova.
It would be really worth it. You can get a functional application in less than a month.

If you decide to jump on Java for Android, you may still be stuck with UI in the first month.
