TRAILBLAIZER:forget Harper, Leningher,Lippincoot and others, any of them can serve but focus on materials your lecturers give and use textbook for clarifications when you are stuck, BCH you need to cram alot and you may be reading out of point with just textbooks. Get handouts lecturers give they are usually what they set in exam |

BCH and MCB are nice courses that have been rendered useless in Nigeria because research Institutes are not there, the FMCG, breweries, pharmcueticals, production companies are few compared to the number of graduates churned out yearly. That is why in medical field the number of students admitted are restricted to avoid producing graduates without corresponding number of available jobs. And I respect biochemistry graduates, cramming those pathways is no child's play but the truth is where are you going to apply it? And those in microbiology still nursing the ambition of working in hospitals and health facility, the truth is there is no place for you there, MLS has medical microbiology as a specialty. For those that are still young with burning brains in MCB and BCH you can write ICAN and convert to Accounting, take up courses in IT (programming, web design, graphics design and photography etc) don't just give up saying there is no Job, you must not work in your line of discipline. Banking recruitment is always open to all with good grades and within the age. For the Jambites, better take up any professional course in medical science or you go for social sciences and management courses. 2 Likes |

thanta: Don't be depressed by the pessimism flying around. Microbiology is not entirely useless. Opportunities will always present themselves no matter how slim. The most important thing is recognising them and taking them. One advice I usually have for youngsters after graduation, find firms or sectors you'd love to work in, especially ones that don't require licenses and regulation and OFFER TO WORK FOR FREE even if it's 2hours/Day. I got my connections working for free for 1 year after graduation. The connections I made were greater than money. Volunteering have made many people great, ask Americans. You'll be amazed how far the social capital you build will take you. It shouldn't always be about the money. My motto remains: Give yourself first! 1 Like |

well my brother.... don't let d comments of people reshape ur thinking . I can categorically say that those condemning these courses don't have deep understanding about them ..... MLS has never taken the places of these courses except in d hospital sector .... how many MLS graduates do u see in pharmaceutical company ? but u will find microbiologists and biochemists there. how many MLS do u find in breweries ? but the part of the main workers in the breweries are Biochemists , microbiologist who work in the quantity control unit ..... How many MLS or Doctors do u find in oil and gas but u can still find biochemist ..... Can A Doctor work in Flour mills, Chemical Industries, food making industries etc... don't only focus on Hospital .. and remember dt if Doctors and MLScientists don't work in government owned hospital , they are paid peanuts... 2 Likes |

fzybah:Guy MLS is not dragging all those places you mentioned with you guys na.BCH and MCB are the ones trying to reap where they did not sow.If you are in BCH or MCB and you are planning on specializing in the medical aspect, you will be frustrated,Except lecturing.know what you want and strive to get it not some shortcut. because from what i have seen, most BCH and MCB graduates like specializing in the medical aspect and bet me,you will be frustrated.focus on other aspects your course can offer and you will be glad you did. |

Lots of myopic comments. OP, your first error is the same error other graduates of other disciplines are committing which is putting yourself in a box. The job market is a different ball game, if you like be an MLS, biochem or microbiology graduate if you have nothing to offer a prospective employer either in your field or elsewhere you will get kicked out shikena! This mentality of because you are a pharmacy graduate you must work in a pharmacy or an elect.engr graduate you must work in PHCN is what is rendering a significant number of graduates jobless. The opportunities to explore other fields are there to be taken but they keep putting themselves in a box and forcing themselves to work in that field. Paper certificate will only get a few people to the promised Land, the vast majority have to use other unrelated skills to get to the promised Land. |

Raintaker: Please be quiet. I studied Biochem BS in Nigeria and Biochem MS in U.S and worked as a Biochemist in U.S. What else do I still have to know about Biochem that I don't know? Biochemistry everywhere is way way different from Microbiology. In fact, Biochemistry in U.S is under Chemistry department in almost all schools. 1 Like |
