First of all, I recommend that you don't bank on one option like PTDF alone. You would need to fire on many cylinders if you want to proceed quickly.

That said, I don't know deeply about how PTDF's PhD works but I can speak generally. While you may defer the scholarship for a year, if you get it without admission, there may be factors limiting you from changing study plans.

The PhD Scholarship conditions are more stringent in a sense than that of MSc. You will have to face an interview panel with your research proposal before you are awarded the scholarship. And after, you will be made to submit you research plan broken down with timeline. Again, you will be submiting a progress report periodically. In a nutshell, it's more supervised than MSc. And conditions apply.

I have been thinking about applying to graduate schools and writing gre for a while now. i have basically just been researching schools and not paying enough time to the actual test prep, i felt i could just do a few weeks rush-rush prep and ace it. As advised on earlier pages of this thread, i took the powerprep test today, i haven't been preparing for GRE before, i just wanted to get a feel for the test.

I obviously need a lot of work on my quantitative aspect. I only have about 6 weeks to prepare. I have gone through the thread top to bottom(took me a week and several sleepless nights). It was totally worth it, the wealth of information here is just amazing. I have downloaded some of the materials and have links to others.

Here's my important question, what materials can i use to prep for these 6 weeks to strengthen my quantitative aspect?

ETS guide. Study it carefully and attempt the examples and exercises. You can't go wrong doing this.

Magoosh Q Videos. Watch as many as you can actively. Pause it, attempt to solve it first then play the video to see their approach and solution.

Mahanttan exercises if you have time after doing above.

Great V score above. What is your discipline? Your V might count more depending on your discipline.

Pace yourself well. Solve questions you are very sure to get first and foremost and only attempt the harder ones after.

Employ tact; there are always 4 options. Estimate in your head what the answer can be by common sense and then eliminate the totally crazy options. The ETS testmakers set questions this way all the time.

When you are in the 2nd section (which would be harder if you did well in the first) flip the script at the quantity comparison questions. If you easily prove that Qty A is bigger than B, go for B. LOL.

If they easily look the same, the answer will definitely will not be C. Don't make assumptions. If you need any detail to solve the question just mark D and move on.

Caveat: I am giving quick fix methods that are not fool proof.

TBH, will be very tough getting in an MFE with 3.03/5.00. It will be a very heavy lift, you will have to blow your Quant out of the water.

What school are you looking at for the MFE?

Hi guys, so yesterday I had a conversation with a current grad student in UW Madison and honestly it was so funny I cannot help sharing it.One of the reasons I chose UW Madison as my ambitious school was that while carrying out my research i discovered it was a predominantly white school and they were working towards diversifying their campus. I felt that would work in my favor being a black woman , they also made mention of the criteria for admitting international students by their countries' GPA equivalent and Nigeria's was a 3.6/5 and they consider the last two years of study too, It was looking perfect. This grad student is currently a beneficiary of the diversity scholarship, He's Hispanic,He practically advised me to not apply to UW Madison, He told me that over 75% of the student body is white and in Engineering specifically i could be the only person of color in a class of 20-25 students. I tried to let him know things like that don't really phase( I mean what is my business if i am the only black person in the whole school sef), He insisted I was going to be in for a very big surprise and he told me that if i eventually go to school there I'll have to assume that every white person is racist to protect myself ( is it really that deep?). I never really considered racism when choosing schools I believe I'll be able to endure anything thrown at me but what do you guys think? Do you think I should actually consider potential racism when considering schools?

Use B.Y MAFIT if Walspring's offer is done.

If you do it on your own the GRE would cost you circa 78k in Naira.

Edo and Enugu may not have ICT venues worthy enough of the ETS folks so you might consider taking the paper based option or consider PH as a venue.

Hello my people,

I've been off on this platform for some days now in order to look for a school that can accommodate my CGPA of 3.10/5.0 (2.96/4.0) for MS/PhD in Biological Science and I have identified Southern Illiniois University (SIU). I contacted the Head of Department and he informed me that my CGPA will enter MS program while 3.0 is needed for PhD. I queried further if there is possibility of combining my BSc and UK MSc with five publications for PhD admission, am still expecting his reply.

Now, I am stucked with what to read for GRE. I have all GRE materials (Magoosh, Gruber, ETS own etc), though some years back edition, which one is advisable to use to prepare for GRE as I intend to take it latest first or second week of November? If anyone have latest edition, that will really be helpful.

If anyone know anything about SIU, I won't mind having some gist about the school.
