Welcome brothers. I see we are few but its a start.

We will discuss solely the revival and propagation of traditional religious instituions at the grass roots level.

We have to formulate a united approach and we as Nigerian Pagans can create a third front to combat the evil and destructive effects of abrahamism. A united approach amongst all tribes to revive and protect our indigenous spiritual ideology.

We need to discuss the options available.

This is the need of the hour if we are to bring forth a Cultural and Ideological Revolution that will revamp and rejuvenate our stagnating nation in all sectors, even secular. Similar to a ripple effect.

Tribal Unity on the basis of Paganism. Unity in Diversity is the Strength of Nigeria.

We need to structure and organize our various independent traditional religions. Reforms are the need of the hour. If you need an idea, you can take the example of the Hindu reforms in India
where ethno-tribal-religious cults were united under the banner of a new term Hinduism (Indian Paganism) to form a strong religio-socio-political force to combat colonism. Yet retaining its internal autonomous diversity.

The Chinese Cultural Revolution is another example but it is a negative one. we dont need to imitate that but rather the methodology of it.

We need to bring something similar into Nigeria. We have lost our morals , values and culture. We are so degraded and directionless now. and it has affected all aspects of our nation.

We need to revive Nationalism in Nigeria. There is no Nationalism in this country due to foreign religious schisms cemented into our peoples mindset from a long time. Nationalism in Nigeira can only be reinstated by resurrecting the Indigenous Nigerian ideology which includes to a large extent its spiritual heritage. Only then can we emerge as a strong nation and set a role model for African and the rest of the world.

yes bro . unity is the key not numbers

A good topic

we aren't pagan. the word is a foreign tag from abrahimic faithful. I will rather call them pagan. our mission should also extend to the atheist. this is growing in Nigeria.

many options are available. but our constitution in Nigeria do not favour us. this is a stopping block . Nigeria is actually a Muslim and Christian country . we are not even save to propagate our faith.

I'm not an atheist, so add it to the list then. We must defeat religion.

In the Modern world we use Pagan to refer to all traditional tribal religions. it was a word used to mock us in the past but today we will use our weakness to our strength.

Pagan means villager and it is true. Our faiths are enshrined strongly in our grassroots. In our villages. Our villages have presevred our faith to some degree. so lets be proud of that.

True. but today Paganism is a New Movement to unite and Propagate Traditional Tribal Faiths.
Paganism is not a religion. Just a word to describe our collective unity.

IFA is one of those faiths. You will always remain an Ifa adherent. Pagan is just a socio-political term.

True. but atheism are not killing our people and destroying our shrines and culture. so we can preach to them but we need to be more aggressive with the abrahamists.

I believe before we proceed any further, we should first know our Rights within the framework of the Nigerian constitution and ensure that it is guaranteed to us.

I agree with you. for the sake of our culture and heritage, they also need to be checked so that it will not go into extinction . with them i foresee a dangerous society where everything is allowed .....where we worship our own desire

according to Nigeria constitution , there is freedom of religion which is written on paper but in reality we know this is not true. imagine seeking a bill to include African traditional faith into our education curriculum just like it is for CRK and IRK. proposing herbal medicine as a field of study into our college and so many other benefit that can hasten the development of this faith will not even reach the first reading.

in my own opinion. this is what should be done.

we have great minds among us. wole Soyinka for example can be our voice or many other intellectuals who are not afraid to tell Nigerians whom they are.

public lecture and seminar can work .....people need to unlearn what they had learn . so that misconception can be removed. this is when society we accept us.

A well organize debate on the topic should be sponsor in our universities... research can be conducted on it.

we should have a representative at the senate level and house of rep . who will be willing to fight for our right just like abrahimic religion. for example we also deserve a public holiday.

just to mention some point.

Me too.

These foreign religions were use to subdue us and make us feel worthless, illiterate and in the dark. For me I disagree, the ones in darkness are the ones that follow these religions without questions, in fact, it's an abomination to question their god or gods.

I'll call them out and think for myself. Before Christianity came, we knew right and wrong and believes in treating people the way we want them to treat us.

Can you believe that in my Villiage, they took down this huge tree that's been there for goodness knows how long because some people might worship it?

What the heck is that about? These church people are now hooligans masquerading as deliverers. A beautiful tree that gave character and history to my village gone forever, and a gaping space left in its place because some people might worship it? Lmao
Even the white people tgat brought the religion to them will preserve this tree find out how many thousands of years old it is, noooo we destroy it to prove that Jesus is king. Tufiakwa

Man I tire for how they reason.

Lol goodluck with tgat, it's so ingrained it's like cancer. When you tell them you don't believe in what they believe in, they look at you as if you're from planet Jupiter.

For me, I love it and find it fun to engage them because, they're like robots and spew the same things over and over again, in the end, most accept they could be wrong but also say, it's all the know.

Your concerns are genuine.excessive freedom can lead to the rise of leftist/communist groups which will be a real enemy to our culture. thankfully Nigeria has still not reached rhat stage which other more developed countries are facing.

It has lost that connotation in the modern world. Paganism is a powerful word even the west has started neo-Pagan movements although they are not natural Pagan faiths like those found in Nigeria.

Well this is the problem. because Africa is not the only continent with traditional religion. All the tribal world has Pagan religions be it Native Amerixan tribes, India, South Asia, the Far East, the Island tribes, etc.

Therefore it cannot be referred to African Traditional Religion alone. The world of Paganism isnhuge and to achieve its unity is paramount for world peace and stability.

Aha . there is freedom of religion on paper. That is all that is required.

Everything you have mentione above is seen as normal and is being practiced in Pagan Nations like China, Japan and India.

The problem is in Nigeria, Traditionalists are yet to voice our rights in a United concerted efforts. The first step would be to first seek out traditionalist authorities (Chief Priests) in all the tribes of Nigeria and "then" stage a protest in different domains.

Pagan rights shiuld nit be a regional issue which is what it has become due to its concentration in Yorubaland only as it is only IFA adherents who are openly Pagan in Nigeria. None of the other tribes have organised their respective traditional faiths and structured it the way Ifa adherents have done.

Just imagine the potential of unity in diversity it could instill within Nigeria if all tribes reverted to Paganism .

Good idea but you see. Wole Soyinka is an old man now. he has played his role. He can definitely help the movement. But he cannot be its flagbearer. The agitation won't last.

To have a successful agitation, we need new fresh young faces to lead. and preferably from diverse traditional backgrounds. As I said before, it should not become a regional movement. but a national one.

University debatea aew a great start. Certainly something we can do.The youth are the country's future and they won't be as biased and narrow as the older generation. Moreover, let us not forget that even the church preached to our parents generation throuvh schools.

As for points to make, they are endless. We even deserve a National Shrine in Abuja like how there is state sponsored National church and mosque in the Capital. we even deserve religious subsidies like those granted to abrahamist pilgrims.

About the tree. its just sad. Igboland has seen a lot of destructions of traditional shrines in recent times as well. including the destruction of the shrine in Enugu and also the more recent burning of a huge and ancient (idol?/shrine figure?) i dont remember. just remember seeing pictures of it burning.

Really sad. at this rate it would be impossible for us to even reconstruct whatever is lost of the faith. The least we can do is atleast document the remaining shrines and customs and parlay with elders and extract every bit of information so that we can reconstruct the faith.
