SWANSEA'S CLEMENT SURE OF TAMMY ABRAHAM’S IMPACT
By Gbenga Adewoye

The 19-year-old has been a menace for English topflight defenders this season and the Swans’ gaffer has backed him for more success

Paul Clement has backed Tammy Abraham add value to Swansea City following his blistering form this term.

The Nigerian has scored two goals in six appearances for the Liberty Stadium outfit since his loan move from Chelsea.

In the Swans' 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, the 19-year-old gave a good account of himself before he was replaced by Wilfried Bony in the 72nd minute.

And his manager at the Liberty Stadium is sure that the English Premier League will bring his best having scored 23 goals in the English Championship last season.

“What he has shown is that at every level he has scored goals but this is a new level,” Clement told The Guardian.

“It’s a big jump. He’s gone from youth [football] to [under-] 23s to Championship and done very well along the way. But this is the big step, isn’t it? You’re talking about playing against some of the best players in the world.

“He has confidence and desire to improve, he’s in a good place and he will contribute for us this season.”

Zambia List 13 Things To Do To Overcome Nigeria In Uyo

It’s less than three weeks to the all-important 2018 World Cup qualifying game between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on october 7, 2017.

The Zambians are not leaving any stone unturned in a bid to win the game and thus avenge the 2-1 home loss they suffered on Matchday 1 while also nicking the sole ticket to Russia.

A Zambian journalist, simply identified by the initials RW and writing in the Zambian Observer , has therefore made a checklist of the 13 things Zambia must do to defeat Nigeria in October.

See if you agree with him…

1. We should respect Nigeria more than we did in the first half, but not fear them, no surrender, no retreat, no defeat.

2. Use attack-minded 4-5-1 or 4-4-2, remember Nigeria can sit back if they wish, winning is our only option.

3. Don’t allow them to shoot, we should close in and frustrate. They can score from range, place goals that outstretch the keepers, hit volleys and score from set pieces, we know that.

4. Long searching balls will be less effective, the Nigerian centre backs are physical and solid.

5. Tactically designate a marker for Victor Moses.

6. Recall Fwayo Tembo, he can beat the Nigerian defenders, he gave Nigeria problems in our home fixture.

7. Exploit the flanks with options of Fashion Sakala, Augustine Mulenga or Fwayo Tembo.

8. Enoch Mwepu and Kondwani Mtonga should solidify their partnership, that’s our engine against Nigeria.

9. Through balls will work well for Patson Daka’s speed better than high balls.

10. When we manage to kill the game, Lungu Chisamba can come in to hold the ball and invite fouls.

11. Get a better jersey for the boys, they are toiling and sacrificing and deserve a better jersey than that 4th grade stripe.

12. Wedson Nyirenda should continue wearing the light blue jacket and running in the opposite direction when we score, it’s or new “luck white shirt”.

13. Last but most importantly, Pray.

Olamilekan Adeleye is a rock in our defence..Since he took over from Ariwachukwu our defence have been stabilized. I thing we are beginning to do something right as our defence in both Eagles team A and B have been solid...I actually don't know what brought about this. I pray Adeleye does not go the way of Odunlami( The defence master of Chan 2014 team).

Abi??

Jos can be a really small place, where you know most people.

We've known most of these players before they got deals in Europe.

Mikel, Musa, Awaziem (he looks very familiar, I know I've seen him before) and many others were products of Aminchi in Jos Bukuru.

Observations: Ghana 0-2 Nigeria
After the emphatic 2-0 victory over the Black Stars of Ghana, these are observations from Olamide Oyetunji.

●Aremu is a beast,He totally put Ghana midfield to his pockets, Ali joined Okpotu in attack most times.

●Ezenwa nearly commit another penalty and all the goals he has conceded are from the spots. He must watch it.

●Adeleye Olamilekan is ripe to partner any of Ekong and Balogun in the main Super Eagles, all his tackles are well timed but he has brain.
My man of the match even though he sustained a head injury.

●Peter Eneji is also exciting to watch.

●Ghana coach made a change from his regular starting eleven.

They lost 3players to injury/fatigue in the match against Nigeria.

●Ghana were just never winning the game, we started the match well playing the ball on the ground creating multiple chances but we switched off midway in the first half playing long balls to only Okpotu in the midst of five Ghanaians.
We played the ball on the ground in the second half and completely overpowered the Ghanaians thanks to Aremu who was cutting the Ghanaians like cake.

■Match Ratings
Ikechukwu Ezenwa- 6
Chima Akas- 7
Osas Okoro- 7

MVP ENEJI REVEALS PEP TALK THAT SPURRED NIGERIA VS. GHANA
By Tolu Olasoji in Cape Coast, Correspondent

The Plateau United winger disclosed that their gaffer had them psyched up and it was instrumental in delivering the goods against the hosts

Coach Salisu Yusuf delivered a morale-boosting 'chat' to inspire Nigeria to defeat archrivals Ghana 2-0, according to Moses Eneji.

The Super Eagles had failed to get goals against Mali and Guinea as their opening fixtures in the competition ended goalless. And, needing a win to progress to the semifinals of the tournament, Eneji was instrumental as they saw off Maxwell Konadu's men at the Cape Coast Stadium.

In a clinical second half display, the winger wrapped up the victory after Anthony Okpotu's opener, and credits their sharpness in the final third to their coach's pre-match pep talk.

"I feel very happy today and I'm honoured to represent my country," Eneji told Goal .

"Well, right before the match our coach had a little chat with us to have confidence, that the goals will come. And with the confidence we had that why the goals came for us against Ghana."

Coming into the competition with a medal after helping Plateau United to their first Nigeria Professional Football League victory, the forward also aim to add the WAFU Cup of Nations medal to his cabinet.

"Well, I Pray God grant us the grace to get to the final of the WAFU Cup of Nations,: he said.

DELIGHTED EZENWA FOCUSED ONLY ON WAFU CUP OF NATIONS
By Tolu Olasoji in Cape Coast, Correspondent

The Super Eagles skipper has expressed joy at their progress against the hosts and also reiterated his focus is primarily on the competition

Ikechukwu Ezenwa is delighted with Nigeria's progress to the semi-final of the Wafu Cup of Nations after they saw off hosts, Ghana on Monday evening.

Goals from Anthony Okpotu and Moses Eneji helped the Super Eagles cage Maxwell Konadu's men at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Producing breathtaking displays between the sticks for Nigeria B, the FC IfeanyiUbah shot-stopper says top on his priority is achieving success with Salisu Yusuf's men.

"I feel very happy and going into the semifinals is a thing of joy,'' Ezenwa told Goal.

''Everyone is happy and I think Nigerians are happy for the victory as well.

"I think [the victory] is a good one because I think I'm building my confidence and I'm looking forward to [Nigeria's national team] games. But the most important thing, for now, is the Wafu Cup of Nations."

Liverpool, Chelsea Battling It Out For The Signature Of Young Eagles Winger

Liverpool and Premier League rivals Chelsea are set to go head to head for the acquisition of Nigerian wonderkid Joseph Hungbo, according to reports.

The Mirror claims the Reds and the Blues are fighting it out to poach rookie winger Hungbo from Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace rate the winger highly and offered him a scholarship deal before the start of the 2016-2017 campaign.
Hungbo was the winner of the Eagles Under 9-16 Player of the Year award in 2015-2016.

If the youngster eventually joins one of the interested clubs, it is envisaged that he will start with the Development squad with a view to breaking into the first team in future.

In August, he was pictured training with Crystal Palace first team players : Christian Benteke and Freddie Ladapo.

Joseph Hungbo is eligible to represent the national teams of Nigeria and England.

Cape Town City a good fit for Nigeria's Victor Obinna
By Nick Said, KweséESPN

Victor Obinna's move to Cape Town City has the potential to pump new life into a dying career with the player seemingly a perfect fit for the attacking style of football employed by coach Benni McCarthy.

Nigerian international Obinna has seen his star dim over a number of seasons as the former Super Eagles stalwart has been sidelined for the last four years.

Given his age and profile it would be a stretch to suggest he could regain his place in the national team, but a good season with the Citizens will raise his profile again after he had been something of a 'forgotten man'.

There are a number of reasons why City is the perfect place for Obinna at this point in his career.

He had hoped to remain in Europe, where he last played for relegated Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 last season, though he only made one start and two substitute appearances in the campaign.

It was the latest stop in a run of four clubs in three seasons, having also turned out for Lokomotiv Moscow, Chievo on loan and MSV Duisburg, all a far cry from his heyday, when he was once on the wanted list of Brazilian side Internacional, and later played for Inter Milan and West Ham United.

The first plus for him is that City are a side that should play perfectly to his strengths - fast counter-attacking football, and with a midfield filled with creative players to unlock defences and provide support for his runs.

They are a team that covets wide play and encourage full-backs to join the attack in support of the forwards.

It is generally a positive brand of football that suits the style of the Nigerian.

The second plus is the home surface at the Cape Town Stadium, which is on a par with what Obinna is used to in Europe.

It is the best playing surface in the country, promoted passing football and is wide enough to provide encouragement for wingers.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, is the presence of McCarthy, not just a coach but also a long-time friend of the Nigerian who played with him at West Ham.

When McCarthy joined City at the start of the season, he made mention that one of the reasons he did so as a rookie coach was that he knew he would get assistance and understanding from club owner John Comitis.

Comitis was owner at Cape Town Spurs when McCarthy made his playing debut in the late 1990s, and there was a relationship of trust and respect there.

Obinna will get the same from McCarthy - not special treatment, but the time to regain his full fitness and form in a less pressurised environment.

That is important for a player who has made just a handful of appearances in over a year.
Don't get me wrong, McCarthy looks a hard task-master and he will demand full effort from Obinna, but the fact they have a past relationship means there can also be some open dialogue if necessary.

However, it is also clear that when McCarthy talks about his efforts to bring Obinna to City, that he values the input of the Nigerian highly.
"He is a really good friend of mine, I know Victor from his days with the Nigerian national team when he used to be a striker partner to Obafemi Martins back then and obviously, when an African player signs for a team like Inter Milan, everybody knows about it and it was around about the time I was in England," McCarthy told reporters, as reported by Kick Off.

"So yeah, it is big news for African players when you get such an opportunity, but then I came across him at West Ham, that's where we played together.
"He was a bit young and I almost sort of took him under my wing because I was on my way out and he was in so, we just became friends and always kept in touch all these years and obviously I learnt that he was free and he doesn't have a club.

"Of course, when you are in Europe why would you want to come to South Africa so I had to pursue him a little just to get himself back into football again. To my shock and surprise, he said - 'why not, what do I have to lose?'"

Obinna will now also have the opportunity to become one of the 'main men' at City after the exit of former captain Lebogang Manyama to Konyaspor in Turkey.

They had hoped Teko Modise would do that, but he looks to have injury problems that could keep him more out of the team than in this season.

Ayanda Patosi has the potential too, as well as the European experience, but he has not played on the same massive stage as Obinna, nor does he have 46 international caps to his name.

This is now a fantastic chance for Obinna to finish his career on a high, rather than as a failed signing for a relegated team in Germany.

What's more, he has the opportunity to have lots of fun in what is one of the great cities in the world.

Martins Set For Shanghai Shenhua Return, Recuperates In USA
By David Meshioye

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins is expected to make full recovery in the coming weeks and stage a comeback for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

Sports.sina.com.cn has reported that the former Inter Milan striker was sent to United States of America where he recently had a successful treatment on his troubled thigh muscles.

Martins was injured during intermittent team training, after the players were told to embark on a sprint, in the process he had hurt the thigh muscles. According to the MRI report, the doctor was expected to wait for at least two weeks to finally ascertain his full fitness.

In order to allow Obafemi to recover as soon as possible, the team arranged for his treatment in the United States. Martins left Shanghai in the last weekend, and he is expected back in Shanghai this week for the next stage of rehabilitation.

Shanghai Shenhua head coach Wu Jingui said he hoped to see Martins make speedy return for the club’s important FA Cup semi-final as he goes through the final stage of active treatment.

Shenhua have continued to struggle this season in the Chinese Super League despite splashing the cash to lure Carlos Tevez, Martins and Freddy Guarin. The club currently occupy the 12 th position on the log after losing 6-1 to Shanghai SIPG last weekend.

Etebo Hits Season’s Goal No.3 In Feirense Defeat, Alampasu Dropped
By Johnny Edward

Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo scored his third goal of the season for Feirense who suffered their second league defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss away to Portimonense, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The game was Oghenekaro’s sixth appearance in the Portuguese Primera Liga for Feirense this season.

Etebo pulled one back for his side after Shoya Nakajima had bagged a first half brace for the hosts, who had another Nigerian player Stanley Awurum on the bench for the entire duration.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Alampasu was not listed for Feirense in the encounter.

Alampasu has been named as a substitute three times this season for Feirense.

Feirense are now seventh in the Portuguese Primeira Liga log with eight points from six games.

They will face Belenenses in their next game on Sunday.
