Pidgin2:I can relate to the bolded part, let's be sincere to ourselves Mac Donald work abroad pays higher than that of a professor in Nigeria, so wat are we now talking. Anyway let's not debate on this, allow the OP to entertain us with his thread 14 Likes |

Pidgin2:I can't speak for other peeps but as for myself I have done worse jobs than flipping burgers in Nigeria and I honestly don't see it as a big deal, yeah I am a graduate but when your degree hasn't got you a plum job you have to do with what you see. I don't want to get into the whole "why you leaving your country argument" I believe I have an opportunity to better my standard of living and I am going to utilise it to best I can. Hardwork doesn't kill. 32 Likes 2 Shares |

NONNYG: Huh...I don't know about that oh! btw, I hope you don't mind me asking but what is the average monthly salary of a professor in Nigeria? 1 Like |

NONNYG:When I was a corper we used to complain about our state allowee not being enough compared to other states in Nigeria i served in Niger by the way, back then the governor came to address us and he was talking about purchasing power, he said that what 5k will get you in Niger cannot get you that in a state like Abuja for example. Same goes to foreign countries yea looking at the exchange rate we may reason that everything is gravy, but its purchasing power that comes into play. You may be earning $2000 and just getting by in yankee but with that $2000 in Nigeria you are balling. Its all relative i guess. 12 Likes |

Beautyaddy:average salary of a professor in Nigeria is 500k, now compare it with someone who earns like $11 per hour, working for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. This is above 700k monthly, what if he's earning above $11 per hour. 8 Likes |

Re: Relocated by Beautyaddy: 9:38pm On Sep 21, 2017 |
NONNYG: I want to assume that is a monthly salary which is still very high. The cost of living in Nigeria is still not as high as those living abroad so that is a lot of money based on the cost of living. 5 Likes |
Re: Relocated by Gamesmart: 9:42pm On Sep 21, 2017 |
NONNYG: And how much does he pay for rent and transportation out of that every month? Secondly, a Nigerian professor's monetary reward does not come from salary only. International or developmental organisations funding local research or requiring consultancy would also cough out some hard currency. 3 Likes |

NONNYG: The above-highlighted wage can live a middle-class, decent lifestyle in Nigeria due to the low cost of living. In the UK/US, the same wage can barely eke out a miserable existence, and most McDonald's staff are in debt up to their necks. Those kind of jobs are meant for students or casual workers, they are not meant for someone with a degree. There is simply no reason to convert UK/US salaries to Naira and use that as a basis for comparison, the cost of living is very different. 7 Likes |

Re: Relocated by Beautyaddy: 10:55pm On Sep 21, 2017 |
claremont: No, that is not true. Let see...if we have to convert the 500,000 naira to dollars using the current exchange rate that will end up being about 1,400 in dollars a month. However, most people who make that amount in dollars a month in the US do get some free government benefits like medical and so forth to compensates for their low annual income. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Beautyaddy:oh, now you're saying cost of living in Nigeria is not high, I thought people do complain that Nigeria is difficult now & everything is expensive. Anyway don't say cost of living is high abroad, just blame it on the exchange rate. Naira has no value. Here in Dubai u can buy lowest call credit at 10aed, can you buy 10naira recharge card? Bottle water @1aed, where u see 1 naira bottle water in 9ja. Abeg make we allow the OP to do his work on his thread joor 5 Likes 1 Share |

Pidgin2: Your point is baseless ..This is the problem with you guys in Nigeria bragging about being graduate but yet those degrees of yours are useless ones.In western world you go to school for passion and not like Nigeria only for money. The society doesn't really care the kind of job you got as long as you can take care of your bills.People study here cos they are ambitious. 2 Likes |
