Tammy Abraham: Striker commits to England amidst reports of Nigeria switch 21 September 2017 Football Image copyrightHUW EVANS PICTURE AGENCY Image captionTammy Abraham has scored twice in seven appearances for Swansea Striker Tammy Abraham has stated his desire to have an international career with England following reports of interest from Nigeria. London-born Abraham, on loan at Swansea from Chelsea, has played for England Under-21s but has a Nigerian father. And the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) were thought to be keen to recruit the 19-year-old. However, Abraham said: "I have informed The FA that I remain available for selection for England." He continued: "Contrary to reports in the media I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance. "I can confirm I met the President of the NFF after our last game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday given he is a friend of my father. "However, any suggestion that I have made a decision to change my international representation is incorrect and wide of the mark." His words will be welcomed by Swansea boss Paul Clement, who believes he would be better off remaining with England. "Hopefully he stays with the English national team," Clement said. "I'm not sure if he'd be better off career-wise - I'm saying it because I'm English and he's a good English talent, so you want him involved in the national team. Nigeria keen to lure Abraham from EnglandHolders Man Utd drawn away to SwanseaCardiff pedigree strengthens Euro bid "From my point of view, there will be no influence from me. "If he wants to ask for advice, of course I'll be there to do it, but I'm sure, between him and his family, he'll make the right decision." NFF President Amaju Pinnick says that after a meeting with Abraham and his agent "all is looking good" for him to play for Nigeria. Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses, Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi and Reading striker Sone Aluko are among those to have represented England at youth level before switching to play senior international football for Nigeria. Two goals in seven Swans games Abraham joined Swansea from Chelsea on a season-long loan in the summer and has scored two goals in seven appearances for the Welsh club. "I haven't spoken to him about that [interest from Nigeria]. I will ask him at some point, but I've got more pressing issues to deal with at the moment than that," said Clement. "Ultimately it's the decision of the player. In some cases they'll make the choice because they see a better opportunity, a chance of playing more regularly at international level. "In other cases, it's because it's where they believe they're from, representing the country where they were born or where their parents were born and it's in their culture. "Whatever their reasons are, it's down to the player to decide." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/41350367. |

safarigirl: oh, puleasee! Dele Alli could have played for us - there was that option and him opting to represent the English football team doesn't automatically cut off his Nigerian roots. Don't forget, Conte had to get rid of Costa and went on to bring Morata and sent about 28 others on loan. With Chelsea, I can't really say much about the politics involved. How many players, Tammy's age are in the Chelsea team at the moment. Conte doesn't really fancy giving youth players that much opportunity to showcase themselves, at least with what I've seen so far. PS: I never said Rashford was better than Tammy, I said Rashford had done just enough to trend in the press. |

dem don dey fear fear fear oh.. Nigeria looking to recruit Everton and Liverpool stars Scott Morris By Scott Morris on Thursday, September 21, 2017 Continuing momentum Nigeria officials are looking to continue their recruitment drive after securing the allegiance of Chelsea star Tammy Abraham. That will come in the form of two stars on Merseyside, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Solanke who both have Nigerian heritage. The nation are looking to snap up youngsters in the English setup and convince them to switch to Nigeria to boost their international hopes. Having already convinced Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi over the years, Nigeria officials are set to win the battle to sign Tammy Abraham after talks. The player has a very bright future in the game and is currently on loan at Swansea to gain some Premier League experience. Now, following Abraham’s switch, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Solanke are next on the list in what could be a huge coup. Lookman is looking impressive for Everton at the moment despite his lack of full games but is a very promising talent nonetheless. The forward scored a brilliant goal against Tottenham U23’s in the youth sides and was given a chance off the bench against Sunderland on Wednesday. Dominic Solanke is also in a similar position to Lookman following his move from Chelsea to Anfield. The Liverpool man impressed in pre-season and has played some games for Liverpool but not as many as he would have liked. Regardless, Nigerian officials will have pulled off a huge coup if they are able to convince the two players to switch allegiances from England to Nigeria. --101greatgoals.com 1 Like |

Tammy will play for us. Trust me, if I were Tammy I would say the same.. it's too early to be in the English media for that 'bad' reason. He doesn't need that distraction. Meanwhile the application process with FIFA will continue. Abi do we think the boy will do against the wish of his family. England are already putting pressure on him, the best way to calm all this is to say he is still in allegiance with England. shekina tbaba1234: 1 Like |

What we need now is for Pinnick to just shut up and not compound the boy's English PR problems. Let England feel comfortable for now. See you in SE soon, Tammy. |

Let's wait and see as regards that. Besides England just dey show their head now because the news is everywhere in the media. I'm sure they had no immediate senior plan for the boy before now. What Tammy has said should keep them comfortable. tbaba1234: 2 Likes |

My brother that's the pressure you and I are talking about. He and his family are not stupid. Did the calls come before now? It's too much pressure for the lad.. they need to calm the situation and silence all those talks in the media. And he has already done the needed, by saying he is available for England. Nothing is official yet, more like a transfer situation. At the end of the day he needs to answer to the English press, and deal with the English public, and not the Nigerian press or Nigerians. So he handled the situation well. Now he can focus on his club football. Will England call him? Will he honor? Let's wait and see tbaba1234: |

TheSuperNerd: Hehehe, you got me figured out uh? I quite agree with you about Manutd being favorites - The queen factor. I'm not taking anything away from Tammy though, but I don't see Conte as someone who puts much faith in youngsters like Tammy. I believe if Tammy is given a chance at Chelsea, he can challenge Rashford for a spot with the 3-lions (if he so chooses) I don't think his performance at the championship would count for much. I'm hoping for both our sakes he has a good season with Swansea. Anyways, I hope we have a good season, we've spent much already and wouldn't want to remain underachievers. |

safarigirl: That's according to you. As long as he has Nigerian parent(s) he can still be referred to as a Nigerian or half Nigerian. Who knows, he might come back home soon and decide he wants to run for the chairmanship of the NFF. You go stop am? You know the English press now, if for example Dele fails a drug test tomorrow, they'd refer to him as a British-Nigerian |
