It has been revealed that the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was almost shifting ground from absolute Biafra demand to restructuring before the army struck.

The revelation was made yesterday by the deputy secretary, Igbo Leaders of Thought, Evang. Elliot Uko, who was present at the meeting between Nnamdi Kanu and South East governors.

According to Uko in a statement issued in Enugu, leader of the Igbo Leaders of Thought, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, had convinced Kanu to drop his absolute demand for the Sovereign State of Biafra and accept restructuring.

Kanu accepted but on the condition that he had to consult with other members of the group who might not be comfortable with unilateral decision by him.

Uko’s statement reads: “The 30th of August, 2017 meeting between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and South East governors was historic in the sense that Prof. Ben Nwabueze made Kanu to adjust his position in a landmark development.

“Because of Kanu’s deep respect for Prof. Ben Nwabueze, whom he trusts absolutely, Kanu accepted in principle Prof. Nwabueze’s proposal that IPOB accepts the restructuring of Nigeria and step down the agitation for secession. But the restructuring should be a return to the 1963 Constitution format.

“Kanu, in reverence to Prof. Nwabueze, agreed in principle to the Nwabueze proposal, but insisted on discussing with and carrying along the entire leadership of the IPOB, both at home and in the Diaspora.

“The meeting also agreed to meet again within days in order to fine tune and conclude the agreements. It was also agreed that IPOB will not disrupt any elections.

“But most importantly, Kanu accepted Prof. Nwabueze’s suggestions that IPOB demands are not absolute. Meaning that the group will have to shift ground in subsequent meetings.

“Kanu was cautious not to take solo decisions without carrying his group along, and therefore promised to bring the group’s leaders to the next meeting.

It is therefore my considered opinion that those behind the military invasion and attacks are averse to peaceful resolution of the loss of confidence in Nigeria by millions of eastern youths and have chosen to sustain the status quo through force of arms.”

Nnamdi Kanu is in no position to dictate any terms to the Nigerian state. If Nigeria is going to be restructured it will be as a result of the collective will of the Nigerian people and not at the whims of a small vocal terrorist group. I suppose that the events of the past week have proven this to be true.

The Nigerian army has taken 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 chill pill before acting. Kanu awakened the 100% savagery in them.

He controlled a chunk of the population in SE and if SE will be a participant in the negotiation and terms of restructure then Kanu's position in Iboland is relevant.

If you are sane in your head, you will know that a small group of people can demand for anything that they feel can benefit them, so long as they are not slaves in that country.

I have continually asked that who is Kanu or IPOB to demand for anything in Nigeria on behalf of the SouthEast, when that region has a constitutionally recognised democratic leadership and representation that did not ask for anything?

If Kanu and IPOB wanted anything, they should have campaigned to get democratic power in the SouthEast then make a democratic request to change the constitution to allow for secession.

Kanu is not recognised by the relevant national and International laws as representing anybody besides his own name.

If he was indeed shifting position on anything, he was only shifting position on his own delusions, and coming to terms that he was only making noise as far as the federal government was concerned.

He was just a nutcase megalomaniac who felt he was entitled to something. But who will dialogue with a nutcase when there's a better option to destroy such a nutcase and his delusions? Who will dialogue with a nutcase and give him and his mob legitimacy when there is already a legitimate representation for the South East region in the democratic politics of the country?

Yes anyone can make demands but not DICTATE terms to the state. If you were sane in the head im sure you would have been able to make that distinction.

Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB will never be involved in the negotiations to restructure Nigeria because not only are they terrorists, but are not the recognized leaders of the SE. Gathering a crowd of unemployed street urchins does not confer on you legitimacy.

It's clear you lost touch with your senses when you declared demanding and dictating aren't associated. A people is free to make demands and dictate terms so long as they are not slaves in that country.

Firstly, I'm not an ipob; I'm not even Igbo. Secondly, Nigeria will be restructured or divided, either you like it or not. Long it may take, but surely it will come.

Are those people without the globally recognised democratic representation to make demands on their behalf?

Is IPOB the SE representatives in the Nigerian legislature?

This is not about Biafra . This is about criminal behaviour and incitement to ethnic hatred creating an unpredictable atmosphere. We have seen the danger of that in Rwanda. When he starts threatening to wipe out Obasanjo's family and to remove Buhari's head and saying there won't be elections he has crossed the line. I don't think people realize the seriousness of the election issue. It is just like a coup
There are so many other examples that we all know abhe election out which i won't repeat .

I hope they win their case so that IPOB is unbanned and afterwards they renounce violence and civi disorder

The real owners of a constituency, local government, state, region or country are the common people, and not the politicians, who are supposed to dance to the tune of the common people.

Ipob are the common people.

Hahaha.......he said there is no election in Anambra state. He go ahead to recruit uncivilised youth called BSS(biafra security service) he said that he will storm Abuja with over 2 million people. He said he will came to Abuja to cut Buhari Head so that he will carry the head to Biafraland. Well, so many wise Igbo people have been advising him to take it easy, but due all those illiterate youth around him that any time he beat drum they use to dance meliciously, unknown to him that master-dancer(python) is around the corner. Funny enough, immediately the python started dancing he go in to hiding. To be frank now no body will tell u his wherabout. I pity all these jobless igbo youth who are here on nairaland just to create so many thread just to defend second most terrorist in Africa behind Shekau.
