Rotimi O. Sekoni, is the founder and CEO of OWPPiN Limited, a wood , paper and pulp platform focused on producing high quality wood derived products in Nigeria, for local and global consumption. He also owns Baton Nigeria, an SME firm that manufactures beautifully finished toothpicks for the local and international market. The company produces the well-packaged Baton Toothpicks, which are sold nationwide in supermarkets, hypermarts, retail outlets, etc. The company also supplies hotels, restaurants, hospitality outlets and catering outfits with their products. It is also fast becoming popular among suya sellers and barbecue joints. When the Central Bank Nigeria, CBN, blocked official dollar access to importers of 41 low-skilled items, Baton Nigeria, an Ogun state-based company, was preparing to start a factory producing tooth picks – one of the items on CBN’s list. By August 2016 when the company’s production lines had kicked off, the policy had been in place for a year. Now, with 43 staff per shift, Baton produces about 60 million sticks of toothpick per month. It aims at producing 4 billion each per year, by end of 2018. “Our product is about 25 per cent cheaper than that of the Chinese, our main competition, although we consider our quality top of the range,” said Rotimi Sokeni, chairman of Baton. The CEO says he was motivated to go into the business for various reasons. "The ability to create jobs in manufacturing in Nigeria. I love the process of making things, so we thought there was an opportunity to make beautiful, cost-effective products in Nigeria....with Nigerian hard work and ingenuity. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Bekwarra: The company Amo Byng was said to have been re-established following the bankruptcy of a French Group call Amo Sanders. By 2002, promoters of Amo Sanders, which was then owned by a French multinational, were tired of Nigeria and they decided to sell these companies. Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, had the opportunity to be there at the time and he bought what was left of it. Oduntan renamed it Amo Byng Nigeria Limited, and expanded it to include Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited. He also owns another company known as Natnudo Foods Limited. Oduntan, a veterinary doctor, who is also the President of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, (PAN), said the local poultry sector has the capacity to produce and meet the poultry demands that will arise from the new government policy of home-grown school feeding programme. Education is somewhat lazy in Nigeria and that is why it is grossly unproductive. It is not interactive, not practical, not educative, not emulative, not liberating. There was a Nigerian professor,a head of department of computer science in one of the western state universities that couldn't demonstrate with a computer in court to give evidence. He was not able to log on to a computer, yet,he heads a computer science department. Nigerian education system is as mythological as the story of father Christmas to children, unreal and magically enthusing . |
