opomulero:increasing the volume mean more cheap fund available to the cbn likely lead to price crash ...under subscription lead to rate spiking |

Nigeria Plans to Sell $5.5 Billion of Eurobonds by Year-End https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-27/nigeria-plans-to-sell-5-5-billion-of-eurobonds-by-year-end Nigeria’s overall foreign debt, which includes funds from partners and the Export-Import Bank of China, stood at $15.1 billion as of June 30, while domestic debt was 14.1 trillion naira, the National Bureau of Statistics said Sept. 19. The government wants to increase the proportion of foreign borrowing to 40 percent of total debt stock from under 30 percent currently, Oniha said. “That will reduce the government’s borrowing costs,” she said. There is an almost 10 percentage-point spread between domestic and foreign borrowing costs and the restructuring debt plan will help save government hundreds of million dollars in financing costs, Oniha said. Nigeria’s Eurobonds yield 6.06 percent on average, compared with 15.98 percent for its naira debt, according to Bloomberg indexes If the federal govt pulls this thru....be prepared for TB rates as low as 10% from January next year!! Buy as much Tbills as you can buy now!! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Pls house I need your advice on this I have #300k with Stanbic MMF which gives me #149-#150 per day. My questions are -should I continue with the MMF or -redeem it and put it in Treasury bill since I don't need it in the next 6months. Thanks |

Desanta: Oh yes and it's because many people are really lazy. They want to be spoon fed. I don't know why some people find it difficult to go back to read previous posts to aquint themselves with what happened in their absence from the forum. Same question was asked just few pages back and don't be suprised to see same next week 3 Likes |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Houstency(m): 6:23pm On Sep 29, 2017 |
Kemade2007: It's best you take decisions after calculating. Let me guess you ain't conversant with that. I help with the calculations and you make the decision. For MMF earning say #150 per day. If you tie your fund down for 6months(182 days), we have #150 × 182days = #27,300. The truth is the current rate that's yielding you #149 - #150 per day is subject to change and in this case, it would reduce further since the economy is recovering and thereby reduce your expected interest for the 6months(182 days), so it ain't sure you would get up to #27k because as the rate reduces for NTB and bonds(since it is the pry instruments MMF invest your funds), your MMF also reduces but the good part is, you can easily terminate the MMF within the 6months without incurring penalty, if you've held it for more than 1month. For NTB, Using the last rate for 182 days of 16.8%, we have from SI P = 300,000, R = 16.8%, T = 182÷365 = 0.49863 I = #25,131. If you deduct bank charges, as well as other minute fees which when summed up shouldn't be more than 2000. So, you should be getting about #23,000plus within the 6months duration. The good thing here is, you get paid upfront interest, and the interest is not subject to changes due to Economic outlook of the country for the next 6months, while the somewhat demerit is that if and only if, you wish to terminate the NTB Investment it's going to affect your profits either positively or negatively. The choice is yours, do make your decision wisely! Regards 3 Likes |

This eurobond talk has been sounding interesting so i did some little findings and this is what I understood about it, Pls correct me if I am wrong. Mutual fund houses like FBN, don't place a fixed yield on your capital, instead the money grows as the Price/Unit increases. So regardless of the rate Nigeria offers her eurobond, it seems investors are at the mercy of the price of each unit. Just like stocks where price per share gets up, so does your capital. eg If FBN puts a Unit at a price of $100/Unit and I purchase 100units which is 10thousand dollars If the price/unit becomes $150/unit after 6months, it means I am $5,000 richer. If the price/unit remains stagnant, it means no gain. (pics from First bank quest below) This is how I understand it oo, I could be wrong. Also knowing that proceeds of the eurobond would be sent to my domicillary account and not given to me cash, Problem could arise during withdrawal. Banks are fond of hoarding dollars whenever one wants to withdraw from his/her domiciliary account, they prefer to pay the naira equivalent which means using the official rate lool. Using the same example above, although I made 5k, wouldn't it be extra cool if I could withdraw the total sum in CASH with the hope of selling it off in the black market? I could even make more if naira had devaluated by that time I want to sell off Oga feelamong and the experts here, am I correct in my assertion? If yes, How do you dribble the bank staffs to get the raw currency rather than the naira equivalent ,lol Ps: Jan 2017 its $104/share August 2017 its $109/share not even a 5% increase that's about 4.8% Gross Profit after deduction of management fee as retail investor which is (1.5%) , my true profit would be 3.3% of my capital Bros Feelamong abeg come explain oh.
