* Makarfi, PDP Governors May Boycott Declaration

Governor Peter ‘ The Rock’ Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state is not alien to controversies. He has also fought many political battles and he is still fighting especially in his opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor is currently enmeshed in another controversy as he formally launches his presidential ambition in Abuja today.

Fayose, who has vowed to replace President Buhari in Aso Villa come 2019 said he will realise his ambition under his political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the fact that the party had already zoned the presidency to the North while the South will produce the national chairman of the party. The Southern caucus of the party had since met and zoned the chairmanship to the Southwest.

While writing to the party to officially launch his presidential campaign which is billed to take place at the Golden Hall, Chelsea Hotel, Abuja at 11am today, Fayose, who is also the Chairman of PDP Governors Forum said that his ambition to be president was without prejudice to the party’s position which has already zoned the ticket to the North , but in the overall interest of the party and Nigeria.

The letter reads “It is with deep sense of responsibility that I write to inform you of my intention to seek the ticket/mandate of our party to contest the 2019 Presidential election.

“This ambition however is without prejudice to our party’s position, but in the overall interest of the party and our country.

“I urge that all hands should be on deck to ensure victory in our quest to return to the Presidential Villa, Abuja in 2019.”

However, responding to the governor’s request, the PDP in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, warned Fayose to jettison his presidential ambition under the party, maintaining that PDP has zoned the presidential ticket to the north.

Adeyeye who said Fayose is wasting his time added that the party cannot allow a non-northerner fly its presidential ticket because it has zoned it to the north.

While likening Fayose’s action as a sign of disrespect to the party, He said what the Ekiti state governor is eligible to contest for is the office of the national chairman which he said the party had zoned to the south.

According to him, “The highest organ of the party, which is the national convention, zoned the presidential ticket of the PDP to the North. That has not changed. The same national convention zoned the position of the national chairman to the South. The convention has yet to change any of these two.

“That (national convention) is the supreme organ of the party. Those decisions are binding on all members of the party. Nobody can alter these decisions”.

“The governor is a member of the party and was at the convention where these decisions were taken. As a leader of the party, one expected the governor to respect the party and its decisions.

“If someone in such an office is breaking the decisions of the party, what do you expect from the rank and file?”

However, an aide of Fayose who spoke with INDEPENDENT under condition of anonymity said Adeyeye’s statement is borne out of malice because Fayose did not choose him as his successor in Ekiti state.

“Adeyeye is just using his position as the party’s publicity secretary to settle personal scores. The governor had already said his decision to contest is without prejudice to the party’s position, so why should he be accusing him of disrespecting the party”.

“We already saw it coming. Adeyeye who has been looking up to Governor Fayose to handover to him is only embittered because of the decision of Ekiti PDP stakeholders who collectively endorsed Fayose’s deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola. We are not surprised by his utterance at all”.

Fayose should shelve his ambition. The only way to power in 2019 is to present a less controversial aspirant in the PDP to the populace. Unless of course he wants to aid the Zombie APC under the ineffectual illiterate daura dullarrd to freely ride their cluelessness into a stress free second term in power.

grin

As a Nigerian he has the right to vie for any office in the land, he shouldn't be castigated just because he warned us of the danger in voting a president with health issues back then

Well I saw some guys pasting his posters here in Abuja, I was so happy that I had to join them for atleast an hour

I love his guts anyday anytime, he might not win the primaries because of zoning in his party but then an awareness has been created

A distruptor that can galvanize the south and middle belt will actually do. Why waste capital on northerner that will only rely on southern vote. Core North already locked down. Watch Fayose polarize the whole polity. Other candidates will be scared of coming out.

Obviously not far enough .Fayose is actually gunning for the VP slot on the Atiku ticket but his baggage coupled with Atikus Baggage will be too much from any campaign to handle so I don't see him getting good any tickets but he will be a good grass roots mobilizer
