Although I've not been a supporter of Onazi in recent times, I must say he was instrumental as back-up for our deficiencies at the LB position in both games against Cameroon. Players don't just sit at their positions. Their dynamism during the course of the game is important, as well as how they respond to the coach's instructions. If we must change anything, let it be Aina for Echiejile. We can expect the same coverage for him from Victor Moses and Onazi. Aina with his added dribbles and crossing will give us more bite in attack. Echiejile does not offer that. mostob: 2 Likes |

Joebie: I agree with you the operative word being pretty well. You probably know that for most players irrespective of nationality, the destination of choice if they can make it, the EPL. I really expect to see much more Nigerian origin players in the EPL in the coming years. The bar for the EPL clubs is really they expect to win it be in the final or barest minimum quarter finals. So anything less is doing badly. The club's to beat still for me are Real, Barca and Juventus. For clubs in Belgium, Austria, Turkey, Holland getting past group stage is a win, that's the level of expectation. Which essentially reflects what level they are on in football terms. |

Ovie Ejaria Missing, As Tammy Abraham, Five Other Nigerians Make England U21 squad for European qualifiers By Joebie|Nairaland ![]() Tammy Abraham has been named by England U21 manager, Aidy Boothroyd, after declaring his availability to the English FA last week, to dispel Nigeria-switch rumors. The news of Abraham's switch to Nigeria almost gave him a public relations nightmare in England last week, but the 19 year-old Swansea forward later released a statement confirming his commitment to England. However, Abraham has not given any official statement as regards where his allegiance lies at the senior level in future. The 24-man squad which will prosecute the games against Scotland and Andorra in the European qualifiers did not include Golden Eaglet trainee, and Liverpool U23 midfielder, Oviemuno Dominic Ejaria. However, the list featured Dominic Solanke, Fikayo Tomori, Ademola Lukman, Sheyi Ojo, and Josh Onomah, all of which are still eligible to play for Nigeria at the senior level. The England U21 team will face Scotland on October 6 before traveling to take on Andorra on October 10. Speaking on the first game, the England U21 manger told Sky Sports, "The game with Scotland is an intriguing fixture and it's a really good game for us. The fact that the Scots beat the Dutch is good for the group I think because it now sets it up nicely for our game with them. They're a team that will naturally want to beat us and they'll be working very hard to do that." Full England U21 squad: Goalkeepers: Angus Gunn (Norwich City, on loan from Manchester City), Dean Henderson (Shrewsbury Town, on loan from Manchester United), Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United) Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Dael Fry (Middlesbrough), Joseph Gomez (Liverpool), Jonjoe Kenny (Everton), Fikayo Tomori (Hull City, on loan from Chelsea), Kyle Walker-Peters (Tottenham Hotspur), Joseph Worrall (Nottingham Forest) Midfielders: Lewis Cook (AFC Bournemouth), Tom Davies (Everton), Kieran Dowell (Nottingham Forest, on loan from Everton), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Crystal Palace, on loan from Chelsea), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Josh Onomah (Aston Villa, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur), Harry Winks (Tottenham Hotspur) Forwards: Tammy Abraham (Swansea City, on loan from Chelsea), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Demarai Gray (Leicester City), Ademola Lookman (Everton), Sheyi Ojo (Fulham, on loan from Liverpool), Dominic Solanke (Liverpool) 1 Like |

The places where Naija players ply their trades these days give me shivers. We really need to improve our domestic league and find good sponsor to bring money to our league. That's the only solution. O pari Icon4s: |

Sir even Brazilian players are everywhere. We are talking of an overpopulated football-crazy country with economic challenges. We need to develop our league regardless of where our players choose to go. Improving our league will only guarantee our GOOD players don't play in obscure leagues. Icon79: 2 Likes 1 Share |

Joel Obi - I definitely hope so Enyeama - Only if he finds a club ASAP. Rohr ain't ready to take clubless players to the World Cup Ikeme - I definitely pray and hope that he fully recovers very soon. And by the way, if I knew him personally, I would've advised him to get a second and even a third opinion on that diagnoses. A few people I know were given wrong diagnoses by their NBA and NFL doctors .... if not for second opinions, these guys would not be playing today. And I actually heard that stuffs like that are very common but the doctors like to protect each other. O pari Joebie: 1 Like |

Zambia Set Up Base Camp In Accra, Ghana Ahead Of WCQ Vs Nigeria Published: September 28, 2017 Zambia Set Up Base Camp In Accra, Ghana Ahead Of WCQ Vs Nigeria The Zambia national team will spend three days in Accra, Ghana before heading to Uyo for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Group B leaders Nigeria. According to the Football Association of Zambia, Fazfootball.com, the local players summoned for international duty will leave for Ghana on Sunday and set up base in Accra, where foreign based players will join from. FAZ President Andrew Kamanga wanted the squad to train in Europe to avoid unnecessary distractions before the trip to Uyo, but that plan was later jettisoned. Coach of the Copper Bullets Wedson Nyirenda is expected to announce his final roster, including the invited foreign professionals, on Friday at a press conference. The Super Eagles are expected to begin training for their penultimate World Cup qualifier in four days time, if majority of the invited players show up early, otherwise they will hold their first training session on Tuesday. Nigeria can qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia if they beat Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on October 7. Why Dele Alampasu Was Not Invited For World Cup Qualifier Vs Zambia Published: September 28, 2017 Why Dele Alampasu Was Not Invited For World Cup Qualifier Vs Zambia Young CD Feirense goalkeeper Dele Alampasu was omitted from Nigeria's latest roster announced earlier this week because the local football governing body, Nigeria Football Federation, wanted to cut costs. Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr replaced Alampasu in the roster by extending an invitation to home-based Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye, with Chippa United star Daniel Akpeyi making a return to the squad after recovering from injury. ''Dele Alampasu not getting called up has nothing to do with his lack of game time at CD Feirense, he was not playing for the club when he was earlier invited to the Super Eagles,'' a top source close to the Nigerian Federation told allnigeriasoccer.com. ''Either Daniel Akpeyi or Ikechukwu Ezenwa will be in goal against Zambia, and the third goalkeeper is only a training material. ''It is more cost effective to invite Dele Ajiboye instead of Alampasu. They will have to buy him flight tickets from Portugal to Nigeria, that's why Ajiboye was preferred.'' Dele Alampasu has made CD Feirense's match day squad three times in the current season, but has been left out of the 18 in the last three games.
