The United Labour Congress of Nigeria (ULC) has commenced a nationwide strike.

The union is downing their tools over the failure of the government to register the union, failure to address Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) issues, deplorable state of Nigerian roads, minimum wage increase, among other demands.

The affiliated unions of ULC include Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Electricity Workers, Nigerian Union of Mine Workers, National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions employees, Association of Nigerian aviation professionals, among others.

Kaduna state ULC chairman, Ephraim James confirmed that the nationwide industrial action commences midnight of Monday, September 18, 2017 until further notice.

In a statement signed by Mr Joe Ajaero, President of the ULC, the union demands that, “The Federal Government bans the stationing of the Army and Police in our workplaces and factory premises. The Government should demand that the Federal Ministry of Labour sets up a task force immediately to carry out factory inspections as most of our factories are death traps.

“An immediate review of the Privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to save Nigerians the agony of suffering under the suffocating darkness which the GENCOs and DISCOs have foisted on the nation and immediately prevail on AMCON and Barrister Nwaobike (SAN); the receiver manager of Delta Steel Company Ovwian Aladja who short-paid workers by 75% to quickly rectify it and repay the deficit.

“The immediate payment of all the arrears of salaries owed Nigerian workers at all levels of Government without exception.

“The Federal Government honours its 2009 agreement with University Lecturers under the umbrella of ASUU quickly and commence negotiations with them on new issues so that our universities will re-open.

“The roads leading to all the Petroleum refineries and Depots nation-wide be repaired by the Government to avoid the present carnage of lives, wastage of products and properties on these roads.

“That the proposed Bill at the National Assembly seeking to control free speech couched under the guise of the Bill against hate speech but has the real intention of protecting the ruling elite from being held accountable by the citizenry. We therefore demand the discontinuance of that obnoxious Bill by whoever sponsored it.

“The withholding of registration certificate of the ULC be stopped and the certificate released forthwith so that the nation’s Industrial Relations clime will be made more inclusive and robust.

“The immediate inclusion of all representatives of labour in the various committees, Agencies and Directorates of Government and not singling out just one centre for these purposes negating the tenets of the nation’s Laws. Any of such appointments that have been done contrary to this, we demand an immediate reversal.

“The immediate inauguration of the national minimum wage negotiating committee in line with the above so that it can commence sitting instantly.”

Data made available by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that 11 states lost a huge part of their August 2017 allocation to deductions.

According to the latest federal account allocation committee (FAAC) report released by the bureau, a total of N467.85 billion was distributed among the three tiers of government in August.

“The amount disbursed comprised of N387.32bn from the statutory account and N80.53bn from valued added tax (VAT),” the report read.

“Federal government received a total of N193.05bn from the N467.85bn shared. States received a total of N130.69bn and local governments received N98.01bn.

“The sum of N31.59bn was shared among the oil producing states as 13% derivation fund.”

Lagos got a gross allocation of N9.52 billion and lost N2.80 billion to deductions. Osun got a gross allocation of N3,06 billion and lost N2.41 billion to deductions, to have a net allocation of N650 million.

Hi, please did anyone get any mail from legacy pensions? Just been informed that due to lack of crediting the account for the last three months, the account will be deactivated and the money there will be lost. This means that the Government has not credited the account in the last three months. Hmmm

Well, based on my comprehension about d comment made above by Temple4real. The allocation was shared in August. I am talking about september FAAC meeting which supposed to be convene within 20th to 25th of this month. Thats where states and federal salaries usually comes from. Every FAAC allocation is where the payment of salaries of that said month comes from when the said month finishes. Example Faac money in the month of August was used to pay for workers August salaries in september. Hence, FAAC In September should be used for in early october for dpetmner d payment.

The shared amount comprise the Month’s Statutory distributable revenue of N550.992 billion and the Value Added Tax of N86.712 billion, making up N637.704 billion.

Accordingly, from Net Statutory Allocation, the Federal Government received N260.609 billion representing (52.68%); States received N132.184 billion (26.72%); Local Government Councils received N101.908 billion representing (20.60%); while the Oil Producing States received N41.977 billion as 13% derivation revenue.

Furthermore, the Force Majeure declared at the Forcadose terminal since February, 2016 was still in place. Significant increases were also recorded in Companies Income and Petroleum Profit tax while Import and Excise Duties and Value Added Tax recorded marginal increases.

Nigeria’s first indigenous cable television network, TSTV Africa has debunked rumors making rounds on social media alleging cabals who have stake in DSTV are frustrating the October 1st launch date.
In a post made by TSTV Africa on their official Facebook page, the cable network wrote “2 days to go, October 1st”, reassuring Nigerians that indeed TSTV is coming as advertised.
Also when asked by a Facebook user that “There are rumors making the rounds that TSTV have not obtain the NCC license and that
politicians and other stake holders in DSTV are frustrating the efforts of TSTV to launch in Oct 1s ……”, the digital cable network said in response that “TSTV Africa has all the legal rights/documents and infrastructures to commence operation in Nigeria. Please disregard rumors”.
Nigerians has been in anticipation since TSTV made an announcement that they will be launching on Independence Day with interesting packages such as pay-per-view with 100 channels including 12 sports channels for all the football leagues.
The decoder also has a hotspot of 20Gb and video call conferencing with a camera.
The TSTV decoder will have 50 gb hard disk to record TV programs and a pause/play function.
It is the first Nigerian TV to launch a Pay as you use so you can pause your subscription whenever you are traveling.
It is just N5000 for the decoder and dish and subscription prices are N200, N500, N1000, N1500 and N3000 respectively.
