Greetings,

I am researching this prophecy that food will become the new currency for West Africa. Which food source, item, would be the best and most sought in terms of use as currency? Please give your choice and why. It is rice, beans, yams, combination of? Thank you, very much. Ase. Love, Sango.

actually there is nothing like prophecy.

in every economy the value of money has always been tied to consumption. and the primary item of consumption is food.

I guess you've heard of consumer price index CPI.

the nigeria CPI and by extension west african economy CPI have been increasing eexponentially for the past 4 years because the total amout of food we produce does not grow in correlation with the population. which is causing the current inflation.

our solutions are simple and are contain in the book of common sense. we don't need prayer has God in his infinite mercy have answered our prayer since.

Whatsoever that'll serve as currency in any Nation must be relatively scarce first. A store of value and should be portable to carry around. For these reasons; food is a bad idea for a currency.

Yams?

Are they easy to grow in most parts of the country? Where do Yams grow the most? Who grows them? Yoruba, Hasua, Igbo or other ethnic groups? What regions?

Not actually true, many economies have used food as a currency and it worked with good results. However, my conclusion, rather aim, is which food item can be made so available as to lower the price of food inflation considerably? How can poor families save much more than the dreaded limit of 5% of their incomes? Usually what happens is an emergency, family sickness, or car repairs, school fees, childrens clothes, etc, which disrupts the savings of struggling families putting them back at zero. I believe food to be the cure to the worlds, not just Africas, poverty issue. Its not entirely about using food like say spending cash, but bringing down the price off staple food items, so no family goes hungry. By creating enormous food production Agrioyo program can West African people to save huge money on food, thus spending that money else where and grow the economy. With more money in your familys bank account, savings, etc, the extra can be used to get out of poverty. Ase. Love Sango.

Then what are the crops that we could use for cash?

Instead of paying with money, which we would save, we would use food to pay for goods and services. Thus, this would render the economy with lots of reserve cash, individual citizens and families would also have more available cash. Then the new cash reserve would be spent developing the country in areas that would create the infrastructure to accommodate the growing population. Baba Sango, Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyemi III, and the other government and traditional leaders, are all correct Nigeria needs to be restructured. Yet also Nigeria needs to be more centralized but this would call for improved civil infrastructure. We would need more state workers, more volunteers, more local traditional government involvement, yet these people will need to be paid. I say the best way is to pay them in food. There has been a quite a few studies rendered dealing with Food as a future currency. I am now certain that using food as a currency would improve the economy of many struggling African nations such as Nigeria. Ase. Love, Sango.

So we have bread/Wheat, Yams and beans.
Does anybody else have any more items of food that would be used as a currency? This would entail using food to pay for various services and products, thus eliminating the need to spend hard earned cash, and saving the government, business owners, individual citizen and families more money. Ase, Love Sango.
