What the Chinese authorities banned wasn't against Islam per se but against the Uighurs and this would be based on ethnicity. The Uighurs are different from the majority Han population, and they're known not to adhere to Chinese culture rather to Arab/Turk. In China, we have Muslim only buses, Muslim only toilets, Muslim only toiletries, Muslim only restaurants, government sponsored hajj, Muslim inspired martial arts, etc. This is due to the fact that since when Islam was established in China, they've always stood with the Chinese people.
