TheGoodJoe: if we start grading players based on your own blueprint then each team might be having close to 200 legends and then being a legend becomes something ordinary. That is why we have great players and then legends, if not then every great player can be a legend |

safarigirl: Hahahahahah! This girl just like wahala, I swear. Wetin man do na? Make I no talk wetin I see again? Shuuuu! I am not even talking about the weakness or strength of our team. I am only discussing what I saw when I watched the Zambia's game and I noticed they rely on crossing the ball from the wings. Virtually, all their goals came from the wings during this campaign hence the need to block or stop them from the wings. Besides, there is one guy Orchestrating the play from the midfield and I think he has to be tamed. But here you are talking about hate and your feelings when you know they are inconsequential in ger Football matter girl. Hold yourself and stop expressing feelings that has nothing to do with soccer in public domain. Even these feelings are fake because you are in a fake cyber World where Saint could be mistaken for devil or devil mistaken for saint. Now, put that behind you and let's talk Football. It depends on where the coach plays Mikel. If Moses Simon and Victor Moses have athleticism are they to hold the Zambian's wingers? My focus is to curtail the Zambian's wingers. It's as simple as that but if you have different opinions share them and stop using emotions to deal with the society. That level of mind set is low. Of course, we have a better team than Zambia but with wrong selection and tactics, believe me anything can happen. Manchester City has better team than Chelsea is only in your dreams. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Mickael2:They didn't camp nada. Their plan to camp in Spain did not materialise as their FA fell short of funds. They went to Ghana yesterday in two sets to set up Base and they will fly to Nigeria on Wednesday. The coach has had to replace the injured Mwila and Banda with N'gonga and one other player. He's dropped Kalaba (due apparently to disciplinary issues) and Fwayo. So it's not been smooth for them as you might think. |

Mickael2: I will give you a simple formula and you will see that you can not have close to two hundred legends in every team. Longevity + Key Position/role + Trophy reign = LEGEND. Do you think Brighton has two hundred of these? 2 Likes |

My brother. I understand you very well. For you legendary status mean a player that far above his peers in that club or country (?) considering history. I was going by that definition myself earlier. But that's not the definition we are using here. So we are all now in agreement. Mickael2: 1 Like |

Mickael2:It's Victor Moses the Zambian referred to. Moses Simon is not on their radar. Mikel, Moses and Echiejile are our players they know the most. |

TheGoodJoe: You can't reinvent the wheel. DMs are important for the balance of the team. DM is rather a more polished word used to describe them. Their proper name is "Destroyers". They basically harrass opponents and protect their team, doing this perfectly well frees up the attacking players to win games. Having them in a team is golden but that position does not attract goodwill which translates to sponsorship and endorsements which other players in more fancied positions get. How many billboards have you seen Makelele, Busqets and the likes? Compare what they get to guys like Neymar, Rooney, Bale. DMs are basically not sellable or the marketing dream for endorsements. Odion Ighalo got endorsement for that Dstv ad when he was not an important member of the Super Eagles then. Onazi who have been a regular for the Super Eagles, I am yet to see him on TV marketing for any brand. Sometimes you have to accept how the world works. You can't reinvent the wheel. |

forgiveness: Say you do not know. Do not say fluke. There were several reasons. Sacking of Sylvanus Okpala, Sacking Keshi during the qualifiers, owing Keshi Salary for a long time, Keshi watching his wife he loved so much dying under his watch. There was a lot going on and the NFF did not help matters with their constant distraction. Also injuries to Obaobona, Omeruo, Ambrose, Hope Akpan and others. Not fluke. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: What is the bone of contention? Is it the question of Mikel Obi as a legend? There are four categories of legend as a Nigerian. 1, Football legend 2, Club legend 3, Africa legend 4, National team legend If you have more to add please add. Which one is Mikel Obi? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:46pm On Oct 02, 2017 |
goldfish80: Stop saying why do they praise one and leave the other. It is simply overlooking of the important role to play. Every thing you need to understand the importance is typed out there. Saying they are only destroyers is ridiculous. They also play a big part in keeping possession. They make sure the team stay organized and they also help the team build attacks by connecting the defence to the midfield. At least read the Vieira quote there and understand. They are overlooked but key to the team. This is not difficult to understand. |

forgiveness: Mikel is a football Legend with a capital letter L. I gave you expo already. For a decade of Success at Chelsea, he ticked the right boxes in the formula. Longevity + Key Position/role + Trophy reign = LEGEND. Then crossing over to achieve it in the National team during the AFCON while showing he was a Supernova winning the man of the match awards repeatedly made Mikel Obi a Football Legend. 1 Like 1 Share |

my final take. (see dictionary below) 1st Application in support of mickael2 's argument When you say Chelsea legend, Chelsea is the adjective here. Legend is the noun. The adjective meaning below may not apply The most appropriate meaning is Noun definition (2). Hence, "EXTREMELY famous". The bolded synonyms below is how Mickael2 likes to see it Synonyms of the word: celebrity, star, superstar, icon, famous person, great, genius, phenomenon, luminary, giant, big name; informal: celeb, megastar 2nd Application in support of Chelsea and most of us Chelsea legend. E.g the contributions of Mikel in Chelsea Champions League victories is/were legend. Take note of the adjective form of legend in the sentence above Hence the adjective meaning becomes most appropriate. Meaning: very well known chelsea player for his contributions as a holding midfielder. Conclusion: Even the first application when used loosely can mean icon, famous person, great, star etc. Hence Mikel is a Chelsea legend. However if you want to use the word more strictly and reserve it for a special few, then Mickael2 you have a case. So really there is no point having this argument. 2 Likes

TheGoodJoe:Their job description first and foremost is breaking up play. Dunga used to do this for Brazil. He had no technical abilities to put it mildly. A technically challenged player can have a very successful career play as a DM. Makelele and Deschamps are perfect examples. |

goldfish80: Do not say he had no technical ability. I have explained it clearly to you but you chose to delve in the misconception. Dunga played in a role that requires the sacrifice of whatever creative talent he has for the good of the team. It is clearly explained in the Vieira quote. If we did not watch Mikel in his early days for the Junior teams of Nigeria or his games with the Super Eagles, many will argue due to his role at Chelsea that Mikel is not a skillful player. Watching Dunga play as a shield or central defender repeatedly does not mean he lacked creative ability. Secondly, you can say the defensive part of the game is important and a big part of their calling. You can not say that is the only role. They are defensive midfielders. There is a reason for the midfielders. It has to do more with intelligence than brute force. I think the point is well explained. |

goldfish80: Cantona can brag how important his trick shots and deft touches makes him King. But, he knows he lacked the intelligence to sit in midfield and organize the team to remain solid at the back. So because they praise Cantona, does not take away the fact that the defensive midfielders are the unsung heroes. Cantona would never ever command the kind of respect Deschamps got in the locker room from players and managers. He was not as important to the team as Deschamps. That is why Jacquet could drop Cantona but Carry Deschamps as Captain. |
