I think Jude Ighalo still remains our undisputed no 9 for now. I hope coach Rohr will give Nwakaeme some minutes of action in the second half against the Chipolopolos on Saturday. We need to see how much competition he can give Ighalo.
Exactly.

Rohr's Selection Headache: Akpeyi Saves Penalty, Ajiboye Shot-Stopper, Ezenwa Past Glory
Published: October 03, 2017

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will not surprise many people when he names his starting line-up on Saturday, with Leon Balogun, Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses among the untouchable players.

However, allnigeriasoccer.com understands the German tactician is faced with a major selection dilemma over which goalkeeper will be in between the pipes against the Zambians, if the workout on Tuesday evening is anything to go by.

Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye gave a good account of himself during today's practice game and is aiming to usurp either Daniel Akpeyi or Ikechukwu Ezenwa, but Rohr has not made up his mind.

Ajiboye saw his ratings go up after showing his ability to deal with shots from point-blank range, and his reflexes were excellent.

Daniel Akpeyi gave away a penalty during the practice game but he redeemed himself when he stopped the spot kick taken by Leicester City's Ahmed Musa.

Though the goalkeeper trainer concentrated mainly on Akpeyi and Ezenwa during most of the goalkeeping drills, Ajiboye stood out the most at the training game.

Nigeria have used three goalkeepers (Ikeme, Akpeyi and Ezenwa) in four matches during the World Cup qualifiers.

I don't think we will have issues finding a back up to Ighalo. We will take a look at Nwakaeme. And then, we have some exciting youth players lining up to compete.

The thing is each time Zambia manages to produce a descent youth team over time it culminates into a descent senior national team.

In 1988, Zambia produced an Olympic team that got to the quarter finals of the Seoul Olympics. Those players were progressed to the senior team and they finished 3rd at the 1990 AFCON. That Zambian team also got to the semis at the 1992 AFCON. However in 1993, tragedy struck during qualifiers for the 1994 AFCON and most of that golden generation of Zambian players perished in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Gabon. They managed to raise a team that faced Nigeria at the 1994 AFCON final. But they never really progressed from their. That era ended.

In 2007, Zambia produced a team that reached the 2nd round of the U20 WC. They lost to a Nigerian side that had Brown Ideye, Ezekiel Bala, Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose, Adefemi Olubayo, Chukwuma Akabueze, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, , and co. They progressed that their U20 team. They lost to Nigeria via penalties in the quarter finals of the 2010 AFCON and then won the AFCON in 2012 by beating CIV via penalties.

In 2017 they have raised a team that reached the quarter final of the U20 WC and again they have progressed a good number. But if you look at the previous trends it took them at least 2years before they started making any statements on the continents. It simply means that it would be too early to expect those boys to achieve same fits as their predecessors. Maybe from 2019 or 2021 AFCON.
You may say football is no mathematics but I will tell you that : 1, you cannot cheat nature. You also saw how our young Super Eagles fell to SA.
2, In football, some how, history has a way of repeating itself. Just like their predecessors, it cannot happen for them from this year 2017. They should look forwards from 2019.

So for them to hope they can beat Nigeria with those boys on Saturday, I shake my head.
that is it,it takes more than 3yrs for an U-20 to become mature to compete in higher level, as good as our 2005 midfield combo of Mike and Kaita were, when Eguaveon tried to use that inexperience midfied against a strong CIV,AFCON 20O6,we lost that game, but we were expecting the the kind of performace they produced in Holland 2005 against a strong and different opposition, but we were dissappointed.
the Zambians would even b expecting one of the U-20 that scored a brace against Algeria to score us.

Remember that Uruguay match, how he bossed the midfield with Mickel or the SA friendly in the Mandela cup, even in the game against Zambia, his introduction slowed down the tempo of the rampaging Zambians in that last 15mins.

Super Eagles Camp Update:

Akpeyi Steals The Show In Eagles First Training Session With Point Blank Saves, Stops Penalty
October 3, 2017013

Daniel Akpeyi was the main attraction during the Super Eagles training session watched by Owngoalnigeria.com Maxwell Pius at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The Eagles had a light session before splitting into two groups of 8 players each for a practice game, which Akpeyi excelled with save after save to frustrate the forwards he was up against.

Akpeyi was difficult to beat throughout the session, and his form is a confirmation of how well he has been performing for his Premier South Africa League side Chippa United‎.

The highlight of his performance was stopping a penalty from Leicester City Star Ahmed Musa, and the manner which he stopped shots during their shooting drills.

Although Ikechukwu Ezenwa didn’t do badly, Akpeyi was by far the most impressive, however he was up against some of the top strikers of the team so that means he was constantly under pressure as they mounted attacks after attack.

A decision on who will start between the duo is expected to be made in the coming days, but for now Akpeyi is in the lead after his performance this evening.

I can only pray that those 'exciting ' youth players maintain /improve their current forms.
I hope in the next 2-4 years time, Nigeria would have produced at least one African footballer of the year among our exciting young stars.

Super Eagles Practice Game: Line-Ups, Ighalo Nets Hat-Trick, Ekong With Ferocious Shots

Super Eagles Practice Game: Line-Ups, Ighalo Nets Hat-Trick, Ekong With Ferocious Shots
The training pitch of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium was used for the two practice games involving the Super Eagles players on Tuesday evening, with about a quarter of the full length of the pitch utilized.

Training cones were used to narrow the width of the space used for the practice game.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa trained alone with the goalkeeper trainer, Daniel Akpeyi and Dele Ajiboye joined in with the rest of the squad and Wilfred Ndidi assisted the goalkeeper trainer to test the FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper.

Team A wore blue bibs on green jerseys and it contained Tony Nwakaeme, Leon Balogun, Troost-Ekong, Ahmed Musa, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Abdullahi Shehu, Elderson Echiejile, Eddy Onazi and Daniel Akpeyi.

Team B players, who wore green jerseys, comprised of Obi Mikel, John Ogu,Uche Agbo, Mikel Agu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Afeez Aremu and Dele Ajiboye.

Ezenwa later took over goalkeeping duties from Akpeyi and the Chippa United star went to train on his own.

The highlights of the practice game were Ighalo scoring thrice for Team B and Troost-Ekong with three ferocious shots in the space of five minutes which were well saved by goalkeeper Ajiboye.

Ndidi is doing the bolded because Rohr must know he is fatigued. I must admit the man doesn't miss much, good job.

Safari, you're obviously a CR7's fan. No surprise there, most women are grin

Don't get me wrong, Cristiano is a fantastic player. One of the best strikers ever. But where I get mad is when people try to compare him to the most complete player to ever play the game aka Messi. There's no contest. Cristiano gives you goals, Messi gives you everything!
The only reason why serious people are still making that comparison is because FIFA and UEFA are desperate to make Cristiano the face of football. He's much more marketable than Leo Messi, for obvious reasons:
#1. Pretty boy (now they can sale the game to billions of female fans around the world)
#2. White Euro boy
#3. Speaks good English

The whole FIFA's marketing stunts actually started the time of David Beckham and the real Ronaldo (the Brazilian one). Ronaldo was the best player in the world by far but Beckham was the one getting all the accolades and the marketing deals. Go figure ....

O pari

Oga! Fine boy no dey for football, ask Ronaldo de lima. grin

You are even referring to Ronaldo when em dey throw-way leg like Ronaldo de lima. In short, Ronaldo did a lot of tricks at Manchester United then.

Forget, Ronaldo is a better player than all you have now though equal with MESSI. Forget. grin

EZENWA VS AKPEYI
zambia rely so much on their wingers which means there will be plenty of crosses.i have watched ezenwa many times and i must tell you he is one of the best goalkeepers when it comes to claiming crosses so he is my choice.
AINA VS ECHIEJILE
i will go with aina since we are playing two DM.one of them will help him out when we are defending and the other one will shield the midfield.
ON KELECHI
this guy have still not convince me enough,he need to do more than scoring.

Thank you! You just said it all. Algeria shot themselves in the foot. In Lusaka Algeria had loads of chances. On a good day, Algeria would have scored 6 goals. Had a cheat pk declined. There was an early chance after Zambia just hit the post from a corner kick, Algeria just went straight and created a 4 to beat 2 counter, but that bubbly pitch killed their passing as ended that chance. Algeria had like 3 more chances in the 1st half and had never ending chances in the 2nd half.
In Constantine, Algeria missed an early pk, missed loads of chances. It was just luck and Mwene that helped Zambia.
I have watched that Zambian game vs Algeria many times, and any coach that watches that game would just laugh...

They weren't that good against Algeria even in Lusaka.

That was Esiti's introduction that slowed and stifled any kinda threat the Zambians had in Ndola. I don't think Ogu even made the bench in that game. Subs were Musa, Esiti and I think Shehu if I can recollect well.
But I do get your points regarding Ogu. I remember he and Mikel over bossed the game against the Uruguayan team in that 2013 confeds.
