Bissycrown: Why not try going by bus instead cos amtrak train can be expensive NY to Baltimore is about 4 hor drive. Hello Everyone! Pls im attending a conference in Las Vegas next month, ive concluded to pay the conference fee at the venue with the organisers. Ive also paid for just 2 nights for the hotel as i intend paying for 4 additional nights if i can cope with the distance of the hotel to and venue and also check if i can find cheaper hotels when im there. Please i hope i wont be questioned why i have not paid for the conference and why i have paid for just two nights(hotel) at POE? |

Propertyeighty: Can't say. The CBP are free to ask whatever questions they consider important. But to me: I don't see any problem paying at the venue, if the conference allows it (you much hold proof that you can pay, and if there is prior correspondence with the organizers, or registration, take that along). As for the two night, I don't see an issue there. I will explain same at POE, if asked. Sometimes same hotel can even give you better rates when you are there. (You may need to show that you can pay the hotel bills comfortably for the duration of your stay sha.) Is this your first trip to the US? (If yes, you might want to search for other hotels online: at least to have more info. You use google maps to check for hotels around the conference venue.) 2 Likes |

Pls, how much is the minimum amount traveller can take along because I don't have up to 1000$, am just with 800$. Hope there won't be any challenges at point of entry (POE), Thanks. |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by KaptainAfrika: 7:58pm On Oct 04, 2017 |
1. Accommodation 2. Feeding 3. Emergencies 4. Duration of stay These are the factors that come into play, when determining if the money on you is sufficient by the CBP. Going with $800 is not enough, what happens if there is an emergency? try and get 2,000 to 3,000 dollars to be safe. Bigabbey22: 2 Likes |

KaptainAfrika:In addition, buy your ticket directly from the airlines or trusted ticket agent not "come and travel agents o". Don't fall for tickets are cheaper in the US. You may be caught in between a credit scam. I have seen two cases in one month. 1 Like |

Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by bigbus: 10:17pm On Oct 05, 2017 |
kessel: Sorry Kessel. I can't read the screenshot clearly, but it seems to speak of "applicant who needs to apply with you" not "travel with you". It seems this page is for scheduling family/group visa interviews. Since your boss is not travelling with you, the answer should be NO. (If you answer yes, likely it will ask for his visa application reference.) 1 Like |

As I have shared my opinion, that also is your opinion, you won't be there when they are asking him what he will do if there's an emergency with only 800 dollars in hand (this is assuming that he has no money in cards, equivalent to 1000 dollars at least). The CBP officer will want to ensure he has enough money, if you go there with just 800 dollars, its risky. Better to hold 1000 dollars in hand, and at least the equivalent of 1000 dollars in the card. If you can't get that amount, maybe you should chill till you do. leboss6: |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by KaptainAfrika: 9:30am On Oct 06, 2017 |
If 800 dollars is all the money you have on you, its risky. But if you have the equivalent of 1000 dollars in your card (your naira card for example), apart from the 800 dollars you are carrying, you are safe. Finally, its your choice, let us know how it goes. Bigabbey22: |

Hi team, i need a clearification on below: just got family visa for family of four. Is it possible for father and one of the kids to go first while the second kid will go with his mum later. |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by REJOICE01: 10:37am On Oct 06, 2017 |
seyewest:Thank you @seyewest for this comment and advice. Cos I also came in through New York and I booked hotel at new jersey. I wasn't questioned at the poe concerning that. He should be fine with the arrangement. |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by bigbus: 12:39pm On Oct 06, 2017 |
oketg: Your travel arrangement is up to you. Just make sure you can explain your trip at the POE. It could be good take copies of the return tickets of the mum and second kid, to demonstrate their itinerary if it is your first trip. I know of families that never fly together in same plane (fear of putting all eggs in one basket) and several families that the husband, wife and children travel separately. For leaving Nigeria, if the children are minors, better to take a letter of consent (plus copy of passport biodata page) from the other parent. 9ja immigration fit torchlight you, check-in officer fit use that excuse sell your seat if the flight is overbooked. You may want to visit the airport or you airline office a week ahead, to know whether they have any specific requirements for minors not travelling with either parent. |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by asid(m): 12:48pm On Oct 06, 2017 |
bigbus: I believe he meant HE got the visa with his family(4, him, wife & 2 kids), but I think, the best advice is in your first paragraph (Una no dey travel same plane together) if asked |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by bigbus: 12:48pm On Oct 06, 2017 |
Bigabbey22: Bros, hold at least $1500. I generally travel with at least enough money to buy me a one-way ticket back to Nigeria "in case of emergency". Of course, it is your money, you bring it back if your don't spend it and you can change it back to naira when you are back, or return it to the owner, if you borrow the extra cash. However, if you don't have more than $800 and it conveniently covers your visit, no sweat. Just be ready to explain it at the POE, and pray not to be held for that reason. Some European visas come with a note explaining that you need to carry a minimum amount, without which their border police may choose to send you back. 1 Like |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by borryworld: 12:53pm On Oct 06, 2017 |
asid:It is simple and clear. Scammers want to get cash for a stolen card they have. They will offer a cheaper ticket in Naira to unaware traveller. The ticket will be purchased with the stolen card "at no real cost to the scammer". Once the theft is reported by the real card owner, the traveller will be the only person available for pick up. Gurus can correct me if I am wrong, tickets are not cheaper in America. Every airline quotes there prices in Dollars. It is the exchange rate that matters, and in Nigeria, rates are cheaper for Airlines. So buy from Airlines, trusted sites or ticket agents you know very well. 1 Like |
